  1. Grimes is a great player.I was at that game, Silsbee led early by a a score of something like 16-8. Then McCain got tossed for what appeared to be nothing. No contact on his part at all. A witness standing under the basket told me he said to the ref I got fouled. That drew the first tech. There are two stories about the second tech. One side said he told the ref all I said was that I got fouled. The other side was that he said that call was " ______". Silsbee fell behind by more than 20 points. Then they regrouped and battled back to narrow the gap to 98-95. Regardless Grimes is a great player.
  2. Congratulations Trajan. I spent 18 years a little west of there and found the area to be full of a lot of great people.
  3. I think the balloting should be limited to moderators and administrators. I have voted on statewide polls. The problem often is that you only know about teams in your part of the state. That is a real problem on a statewide poll but not necessarily on a SETX poll. There is something to be said to be able to sit back and think to yourself...... Those moderators are nuts. They don't know anything about what they are doing. You guys do a great job. Keep doing the polls yourself.
  4. I have been wondering for some time what Ivory Williams ran while he was in high school. I know he was extremely fast. One night in football against Silsbee he took a kick at the goal line and it appeared he ran an 8 second 100 getting to the other goal. Just kidding but he was fast, fast fast. How fast was that?
  5. I asked and he did not run it. I don't know if they had one.
  6. I got interrupted there. The point is that for every athletic event there are at least two teams on the field and one set of officials. It is the responsibility of the schools to make sure that their fans behave in an acceptable manner and sometimes that means telling some of them that they are not the official and that they are not welcome at the game. I have taken pictures and written stories at games for years and one of my goals has been to make sure I am not involved in what is happening on the field or court. If you work at it you get to be fairly good at doing just that.
  7. The point is that they seem to do it every game. Silsbee had a school board member who had to have the last word with an official a few years ago. He did not start to say as much as the BC fan in the game with Silsbee. He was unable to attend games until after the school year was over and his son was the star player for Silsbee.
  8. I've been watching fans acting like idiots for most of the years that I have been involved with high school sports. A couple of weeks ago at the second Silsbee versus Bridge City game I witnessed one of the most unlikely events that I have seen. Two Bridge City guys (both young men in high school or a few years out of it). They located themselves in the middle of the Silsbee fans and bad mouthed the officials the whole game. . When the game was over they were still at it. Silsbee fans were yelling at them their team won and they needed to just leave. Then the oddest thing happened. One of the officials came over to the Stands and started arguing with them. I could not figure out what they were trying to prove or what the official thought he was doing.
  9. Thanks Keep us informed. I have my other project complete and could possibly drive up for the third game if it is needed. Thanks for keeping us posted.
  10. What is happening in this game. There has been no report for 57 minutes. Is there a rain delay.
  11. I don't know the new coach and haven't had time to read his bio. I am a guy who is a big fan of Greg Neece. I have been to a few Kirbyville baseball games recently. That catcher who is the son of the superintendent is about as athletic looking as anyone I've seen in a long while. With that in mind I would think the super would want to make sure he had a good man to coach his sons. I am anxious to see the young man on a football field.
  12. I would guess that I attend about as many games in Silsbee as AAW which is probably too many. I see many people at every game that I attend so I would guess they see a lot more than I do or AAW. I did not see the incident at LCM. I do feel that some of the problem stems from other district teams playing inferior ball to what Silsbee plays and they attempt to equalize the situation by poking the Tiger. The SHS team should be smart enough to not react to the pokes but apparently they are not that smart. The deal that really bothered me was the fight at Jasper. There was no reason for that in the world. The kids on the floor were having a great time. Jasper got beat badly but the fight had nothing to do with the two basketball teams. I had my 90 year old dad at the game at it took me a while to get out of the gym. We were a short ways behind the team. Some Jasper fans had been heckling the players from behind the bench. Coach Sigler and Officer Montavlo walked to get the bus. The assistant coaches were supposed to wait with the players. For some reason they decided to follow Montavlo and Sigler to the bus. The team was walking basically in single file to the bus when they were attacked not by the players from the other team but the fans. There were virtually no school officials at Jasper that evening. As I was helping my dad to the car one of them said We better not go any further. I left my dad and wife and walked to the car and brought it back to the door to pick them up. As the UIL hearing the executive council noted that they were aware of the incident Still nothing was done. Jasper received no probation. As far as I know there were no charges filed. If I were king..... and I'm not.... there there would be stronger rules. If you start a fight you out for the remainder of the year. If you react instead of walking away then you miss the remainder of the season. These rulings usually are not fair. When you look at it LCM received basically no punishment for their part in the fight. As I was told they threw the first punches. They had to forfeit a game but it was a game they were behind by nearly 20 points. They had a player or two sit out one game. If I remember right it was against one of the weaker teams in the district.
  13. I've always been impressed with the Orangefield coaching and their style of play.
  14. I'm thinking about changing my mind on this one.... ran across a couple of good looking home schooled boys... one over 6'6" that live right here in town.... I might have had the wrong attitude and info all the time. Welcome aboard boys.
  15. You gotta live with your past actions
  16. Do You Think LCM will want to hit a couple of players, start a fight and see if a couple of Silsbee players get kicked off the team? .... It worked last time.
  17. I guess I just don't care for the home schooling concept. I have one child with a Doctorate, and one with a masters degree. My wife and I both have college degrees. I never wanted to limit my children to the knowledge that I can share with them. I also like seeing the affect of the things that others have to share with them. Sometimes I don't care for the ideas of people in the public school system and sometimes I don't even like the people but I do appreciate that they offered something different to my children's lives than the narrow scope that my wife and I could offer. Sports are not the most important thing that takes place at a school and I agree that to a degree they are a bonus that a child-student can earn an opportunity to participate in. The same can be said for band, choir, FFA and other extra curricular activities.
  18. I agree with AAW but I do that most of the time. My question is this, Why would anyone want their home schooled child to be around school children in an athletic setting if they were sheltering them from the student body academically?
  19. I have always said that they had never won a state championship in a sport that involved a ball prior to the win in Basketball. I know they won the championship in track in 1988. They had a five man team. Three of them were Eric Foster, Chris Barnes and Calvin Tyler. I'm not sure who the other two were. I was here when they won the championships in powerlifting in the early 90's. I believe there were four of them. However I don't believe at that time that powerlifting was a UIL approved sport. By they way the championships were after Mark Henry graduated.
  20. If you could win by half a point I would settle for that. The two things that impress me about the Tigers is the way they quickly push the ball up the floor and their smooth shooting touch when they get set up. They have a lot of guys who can shoot the "3". You never know who will have the hot hand. The third thing I like about them is the way Barnes and Jones crash the offensive boards. Barnes must have scored ten off rebounds Saturday.
  21. I usually could not care less what color the uniforms are. I have noticed a lot of Silsbee's uniforms now have a lot of black in them. I am not sure why. The uniform to me is not a big deal in any sport except football. I remember Lumberton had a grey uniform a few years ago that was awful. I could never see the numbers to see who was doing what. They made it extremely tough to detail who did what.
  22. Congratulations to the two fine Evadale athletes. I think they had several other outstanding players but did not progress as a team like I would have hoped. Mackey had a lingering foot injury most of the season. I am not sure how much he missed but he had two different stretches that he did not play and I think he missed about 2 1/2 games. I hated that for him. I still believe he has the best hands of any receiver in our area. His speed hurts him a little but he can catch the ball. I have season tickets at Lamar and think he would have helped them a lot.
  23. It looks to me like that is the sort of team that ought to have to play WOS. I could go to that game and enjoy cheering for WOS.
