  1. Birds go nuts. Put up 20 runs on 19 hits. Five players had multiple hits. AJ Taylor went 5 for 5 (2 doubles and a homer) with 5 RBI. Tab Tracy and Balen Valentine with 3 hits each. Travis Lutz gave up 1 earned over 6 innings on the hill. No help from HCU as they were swept by SELA. SFA trails by 1 in the bottom of the 7th on the road at Northwstern. Cards travel to Rice on Tuesday and then host SELA in the biggest series of the season. Get your butts to the Beck! Lamar's team batting average jumped 5 points from 1 game. Should no longer be last in the conference in that category after the weekend. Had a few guys with high expectations for the season that have struggled come through nicely today. Hopefully, a start at hitting well the rest of the way. SFA knocks off Northwestern. Finally go a little help this weekend Northwestern is now a game and 1/2 back. They only have 3 conference games left due to the 11 team conference and they have not been off yet. Lamar holds the tiebreaker from the sweep last weekend. REMEMBER: 1 and 2 seeds host first weekend of the conference tournament.
  2. Birds win 7-2. Jarrett Williams threw 5 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the W. Put up 12 hits with Tracy, Wagoner, and Kummer having 2 each. Kummer had a homer and 4 RBI on the day. SELA 10 run rules HCU, thus they and our Birds are 15-8 in conference play. Northwestern and SFA are locked at 1-1 in the 9th. Immediately after posting the above information, Northwestern walks off SFA. Northwestern sits a half game back at 16-10.
  3. Lamar falls tonight. Olivier, the conference leader in ERA, gets roughed up in the 3rd giving up 8 earned runs. Cards put up 10 hits and score 7 runs, but fall 11-7. Northwestern with a big comeback to beat SFA and SELA hammered HCU. So, tied with SELA and they each hold a 1/2 game lead on Northwestern.
  4. East Chambers is not involved in any district seeing games. I have no idea on Buna and Kirbyville nor how the district tiebreaker rule reads. A tiebreaker game between the 2 would keep each from trying to find a playoff warm up game if each wants one. Could even play each other if the seeding is already determined. Some districts are still playing this Friday, so warm-up game opponents may be difficult to find.
  5. Pull out a broom. We have a sweep. LU 3-1 winner in the finale.
  6. Walk off win on a passed ball. 4-3 win in 15. What say Uncle Spidey, we in 1st.
  7. Very good night at the Beck. Olivier with 11 K's in a complete game and a quality offensive showing by the Birds. 5-0 win.
  8. Some coaches fail exercise physiology even after they have graduated.
  9. LU with a 10 run rule in 7. 11-1 victory. SFA falls and SELA wins. Thus, Lamar sits in 3rd tied with SFA (holds tiebreaker) and 1 game back of SELA. HCU has a big lead on Northwestern State ans if it hold they will have taken 2 of 3 from the Demons. This will bring them back to the pack a bit. Huge weekend coming up as the Birds host the Demons, SELA heads to UTRGV, and SFA will be hosting Nicholls. Can Lamar pull a top 2 seed or do we hope for a good destination for the first round of the conference tournament? Time will tell, sun will rise tomorrow, and my Uncle Spidey will have a complaint.
  10. LU drops the middle game against Nicholls 11-10 in extras. Now 1 game behind SFA and SELA for 2nd.
  11. LU shutout for the 3rd time in 4 games. Only 3 hits as the offense continues to have struggles. SELA loses to Corpus. Thus, pending the outcome of SFA vs. UTRGV, LU will be in a 2 or 3 way tie for 2nd. HCU beats Northwestern. So, the top 3 teams all lose tonight. Hopefully some of the guys thst produced last season can make late season turn arounds.
  12. Sure will make what year to choose to be a "free agent" very interesting. Also, sit back and wait for the other senators to add amendments until we are right back where we started.
  13. Lamar with a 9-0 win today. Nice day at the ball park with clear skies and a light wind blowing in from center. Durbin and Sparks went deep and Tab Tracy had a multi-hit day. Three pitchers combined for the shut out and gave up a total of 4 hits. Overall good day and sit tied with Northwestern at 10-5 at the "midpoint" of conference play. At TCU on Tuesday and then host ranked Oregon State starting on Thursday.
  14. Lamar falls in extras 5-3. Not enough offense on a low humidity night with a slight wind blowing out. LU only had 5 hits on the night. Olivier with another strong outing going 6 innings with 7 K's and giving up 2 earned runs. Rubber match at 1 tomorrow.
  15. Our Birds beat San Antonio's birds. 5-2 final. Long game despite the low score. Quite a few walks and a good numbe of runners left on by both squads.
  16. Brayden Evans with a 2 run homer as Lamar walks off the midweek against Tarleton in the 10th. Host UIW in the weekend series starting at 7 on Friday.
  17. Baseball on this site has little to no activity as stated. It could be partly due to the state of baseball below the collegiate level is infurating with parent's views of the ability of their children which is quite distorted. However, if you follow viewership trends for MLB, it is up quite a bit over the past decade and youth participation has recently rebounded quite a bit. The NBA has taken a massive hit in viewership though. The NFL is well the NFL and college football remains strong. I don’t state the above as a stitch head (I am one). Each summer i teach a sports sociology class and we discuss viewership and attendance patterns as part of a sports sociology class. The numbers actually surprised me as I don't care for pumpkin bouncing but was very surprised by the decline. BULLETS, I refuse to discuss kickball as I am an 'Merican! Take your communism elsewhere. I recently learned who bullets13 is folks, I am just giving him a hard time. A quick internet search reveals the number quite easily.
  18. Correct. Attended all 3 games of the UTRGV sweep, so no idea why I stated 2 out of 3. Look at you being sweet with how you started your response to me. You ole' softie!
  19. In a 10 inning game that took over FIVE hours to play LU takes the rubber match 18-15. There were 36 combined hits, 23 walks, and LU hit 5 AMC batters. Only 3 errors committed between the squads. Kevin Duran has 4 hits and 6 RBI, Hector Rodriguez added 3 hits and 4 RBI, Tab Tracy picked up 3 hits, and 3 others had 2 hits each. LU had 2 score 6 in the 9th to tie it and get out of a 1st and 2nd with no out jam in the bottom. 8-4 in conference. In a 3 way tie for 1st. Tied with Northwestern State (yet to play) and UTRGV (took 2 of 3). UIW at home this coming weekend after a midweek hosting Tarleton.
  20. Beau Durbin with a solo and 2-run home run. Chris Olivier adds another solid start picking up another win (6 innings and 2 earned runs) and Travis Lutz gives up 1 hit over 3 innings for the save. Lamar takes game 2 with a score of 7-3. Rubber match tomorrow in Corpus.
  21. LU drops opener 6-1 to TAMC.
  22. 11-10 win. Windy day and expected a lower score, but it's a win.
  23. LU with a much better performance today. Olivier goes 7 and 2/3 striking out 12.. Birds win it 5-0.
  24. Another bad loss!! 3-1 Pokes take opener.
  25. LU uses 6 pitchers tonight and combined they allow 1 hit to Louisiana Tech. Win it 6-0. Host McNeese this weekend. Schedule shows a 7 o'clock Filriday start time. That is an hour later than the usual Friday night start. Hoping for good crowds.
