  1. I thought he was finished. Hasn't he publically stated (atleast a couple times) that he was through with this website ? I do not understand ?
  2. Even Worse. lol. I'm sorry folks from HD. He said he was from HD on the first page and I naturally thought that is where is from. Again, this isn't worth wasting time over. Go Rebels !!!
  3. He said he was on the first page. I really don't care about this guy. He's a wannabe. Good luck with Mart !!!! I hope you guys take care of business and make the district proud.
  4. I'm not talking trash. I was taught not to talk trash. I always let my winning take care of that. I was on both of those teams. I won two state championships. You are the one that started talking about how people should save their money and not go to Jacksonville. Not me ! Sounds Jealous to me. I think you have problems admitting others are better than you. Oh well, don't worry about it. You have a good coach and coaching staff. HD will bounce back.
  5. When is the last time HD won state in Anything ? Evadale has won a basketball & baseball championship since 2000.
  6. TT What do you do for a living ? You are always on some website talking about sports. I don't understand why you would constantly want to run down one school. I am a graduate of both SHSU & Lamar. I wouldn't run one down over the other. I know Lamar hasn't had much success lately in Basketball, but they have faired very well in everything else. It seems like everytime I read something you write on here, it is in an insulting way towards Lamar. It's sad. It really is.
  7. Terror, you amaze me more and more each time you post. I'm sorry if you accept Division I B Team Football (SUBDIVISION) and you "can compete for a national championship". Maybe some people accept 2nd best and by all accounts go win your championship. Other people want the very best athletes and the very best sports.
  8. Why do some people think Lamar would get "a major name coach" ? My reasons why I can't understand some peoples thought process: 1. We are talking about a small school. Sure Lamar has the highest enrollment in a while, however a lot of the enrollment is online. We are so small people get lost looking for us in Beaumont. I've actually been to a high school where the population was larger than at Lamar. 2. Small budget. I know some people think that it shouldn't be about the money, however a person has to provide for his family and pay bills. My dad was a coach and I remember hearing people gripe about money. What they failed to realize was how much work goes into this "entertainment". These were normally the same people that would bash him (secretly) and then give him a hug when he did something great. 3. Resurrecting a dead sport. Why would a proven coach come to SE Texas and work his tail off just to hopefully have a successful season 2-3 years down the line (and that's hoping he can get great recruits). And at the end of the day, he will be ran off because "he's too old or his system no longer works."Lamar's "claim to fame" is when they defeated BAYLOR in the early 1980's. Think of the advances that has happened in the world since then. Communism fail, The Red Sox fianlllllly won the World Series, heck even Michael Jackson was still cool. 4. Division 2 Football. Again, enough said. There's probably a reason why none of the "good coaches" aren't wanting this job. I am a Lamar Alum and I pay my dues. I am very proud of Lamar, but I am just more realistic. If the new coach is good enough for Tubbs, then he is good enough for me. Give the guy a chance. If the community really wants this to be successful, it doesn't matter who Lamar Hires. What has to happen is there has to be good recruiting classes (not just in setx either). A coach can only be as good as his players. He can encourage kids by camps, meeting the community, etc... However I feel it will be the same story as always in Beaumont. The good kids go to UT, A&M or LSU. The rest go somewhere else. Lamar will get what is left over. Until Beaumont gets more "college centered" it will alwaysss be the same story.
  9. Stapert was great for Spurger. He did an outstanding job. The Little Dribblers program was resurrected because of him. He is the one that got that started again. Spurger will be good, however I think the move to Kirbyville will be a good one. He will have more athleticism (year in & year out) and with his coaching style, he may be able to turn that program around as well.
  10. This topic is funny. When Lamar does recruit local players, what do they do ? They weigh their options and go somewhere else. They know if all fails, they can always go back to Lamar. Beaumont doesn't really have much to offer college students. Beaumont is farrrrr from a "college town" and besides it's not the prettiest town either. Any entertainment that Beaumont offers eventually gets yanked because people complain about money (Wildcatters for example). Lamar does the best they can by getting players from the JUCO that want to play Basketball. If I were recruiting I would be doing the same thing. I would talk to the best local players but I would be looking outside of Beaumont to get players.
  11. I can remember not in the distant past people were saying we needed a new basketball coach. Now that the Cards are winning, where are the complainers ? I think it is time Coach Roc was praised a little more on here...
  12. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that any official reading these threads would most likely think twice before calling another game next year. Like I said in an earlier post, if the calling is so bad why aren't all these "coaches" that are on this website go and become officials. People are going to continue to gripe and the calling will not get any better. Go and become an official. It's not near as easy as you think it is.
  13. Actually I was at one of the other schools in the district. I have never coached at Spurger. When I was down there Spurger didn't have the best reputation as a place someone would want to be and Spurger wasn't very good then. His approach is the same approach I use. There are a lot of things a coach can't control. If you don't like the job he's doing, why don't you try and get a coaching job ? Until then, how about supporting your team. They are winning now and you want to talk about the past. wow.
  14. He has had good teams, but so has everyone else. 2001 Evadale State Champions. Back then having to compete with Evadale and Big Sandy was not a good situation. 2004, 2005 Burkeville and Broaddus were ranked in the top 10 all year (Broaddus was #1 & Burkeville almost beat Bogoata. Bogota went on to win the state championship). Last year, West Hardin and Big Sandy were great. I wouldn't say quality, heck they didn't even practice after school when he first got there. I would do my research on teams before I would bad mouth a coach.
  15. WHS Alum, I am talking about when the Seniors this year were Sophomores. Spurger defeated Warren each time. The Seniors at Spurger were playing Varsity then.
  16. WHS Alum, I am talking about When the Seniors were Sophomores. Spurger beat Warren each time then as well. The Seniors at Spurger were playing Varsity off and on then.
  17. Maybe a few people on here can go and become officials. I think that would be a great idea. I'm not an official, but I have officiated a few games (when I was in college and looking for extra income). It's not as easy as you think it is.
  18. Wes, I work in Education (and until a couple years ago, Lamars education program wasn't the best in the world, ask anyone that went throught it and they will tell you the same). Nightlife in Beaumont isn't exactly booming either. I think the downtown atmosphere is great for Lamar, but it still isn't a college town atmosphere. As far as the plants are concerned, I understand that pays for a lot of Education, however I don't think recruits will be too excited about smelling them everyday. Wal-Mart was in the vocabulary as well. lol. I can remember we would go to Lake Charles, because "Boremont" wasn't exactly the place it is now. As far as Northwestern State is concerned, it is very pretty. I will agree with you there. With all of the improvements Lamar has made recently, I think if they can make the Campus larger (buying out the houses around LU) and remove eyesores, they will be able to attract a larger audience. IMO.
  19. Well I was close. Spurger will be very hard to beat this year and the following years to come. Coach Stapert is an excellent coach and he has done a remarkable job at Spurger. I don't understand why people are stunned by Spurger beating Warren. Spurger has beat them the past 3 out of 4 times (past 2 years combined). Sheffield is an excellent shooter (maybe one of the best in the area). Congrats Pirates !!!
  20. Reasons why Recruits would select SFA over LU #1 Scenery- Nac. is a lot prettier of a city than Beaumont. #2 Health- With a refinery pumping who knows what into their lungs, the air is safer and cleaner in Nac. #3 College Town- Beaumont has never been a college town and probably never will. #4 Community Support- Everyone that is/or ever has been a Lumberjack all have a bond and they all support SFA (a lot like aggies... Whoop!) #5 Tradition- I had to watch the last football game Lamar ever played on Youtube of all places. #6 Friends- Growing up in SETX kids want to get out of the GT. They want to go somewhere that is too far away for mom and dad to drive there everyweekend, but is close enough to home when they need to get home. #7 Greek- A lot of Freshman get caught up in this and face it, Greek life is way more popular at SFA compared to LU. #8 Everyone has heard of SFA in TX. I don't know how many people I have met (up here in the metroplex) that haven't heard of Lamar. #9 SFA is way prettier than LU. #10 Lamar hasn't even publicly announced Football and everyone is wanting them to play in the FBS. Lamar has been talking about this since I went there. I am a proud LU Alumni, but I am a person that can face reality as well. I think LU is making up a lot of ground on every other university in TX, but they have had to fill a huge gap, and they still have a lot more work to do.
  21. Why would R.C. come to Lamar ? I know he is from the Golden Triangle, but I don't think he would. I could see him going somewhere football is already established and a tradition is already set. I think the attendance will be large, but I don't know if it will be 16,000. It will be good to see Lamar playing again, but not against Blinn or San Jac or UT-Tyler. I think if Lamar is going to hire a coach, they need to get someone young and full of energy. Recruiting is going to be a hard job. Lamar will still get what is leftover from A&M, UT, Tech, OU and LSU. A lot of kids will still choose SFA, Texas State and Sam over LU as well because they will want to get away from Beaumont. Some of you will disagree with me over this, and that's fine. It's the truth. These are the same reasons kids choose other Universities over Lamar right now. I think Lamar needs to hire a DC from Conference USA or possibly Sun Belt. That's probably what Lamar can afford. Hopefully he can be a people-person and communicate with the community as muchas possible. This will sell tickets. From there, they will need to advertise themselves across the GT and Country. This will spark interest into the program. They will then Redshirt the first year. During the 2nd year, I would go to the JUCO ranks and try to get top recruits (which is going to be difficult considering you have a powerplant literally in the view of the field). Lamar may/may not get these recruits. It's going to be extremely difficult for them to win 8+ games their first 5 years into play (Lamar is going to lose A LOT of games early). I don't know who they will hire, but it would cost Lamar a lot of money if I were going to sell myself out for all of this work.
  22. It was on one of the major channels. I can't remember which one. It was like a 10 minute segment. It featured the Coach and Principal as well. Look tomorrow, I'm sure it will be in the paper.
  23. I just saw on the news SOC is being investigating for possibly playing an ineligible player at the State Tourney last year !!!
  24. Spurger will be good enough to win. Stapert will have the boys ready. Goodrich better not over look the Pirates. Spurger will be solid for the next few years. I have watched these boys for a few years now and I know that the District Trophy (possibly State Trophy) will be going through Spurger in the following years. I am going to say the Pirates win this game by 10.
