  1. They are good. They have lost the past few years to Soutlake like in the Regional Finals. The district they are in is Plano, West, East, Richardson, Berkner, Lake Highlands and Wylie. Belive me, Allen is for real. They were better last year, but when you have over 3,000 students to choose from, you are going to be good. Their facilities are incredible !!!
  2. This "Mercy Rule" thing is starting to get under my skin (Not just this, but from the NFL as well). I don't believe in a "Mercy Rule". If we are going to start worrying about "Feelings" then we need to take the scoreboards away and just have "Fun". Maybe we can even have cupcake parties after the games (I meant activities). I have been on both sides of the scoreboard. I have always felt that sometimes you need to get the holy crap beat out of you. It makes you re-evaluate where you are and it makes you realize what you need to do so it doesn't happen again. I don't think it's right for a team to prepare all week on a gameplan, maybe have better athletes and have to play your subs for 3 quarters. What good did the starters get out of this ? It's just like the real world. When you lose your job or you don't get to live the lifestyle you want too, you can't just pout about it. You have to "Man-up", raise your chin, and get back to work. I know some of you are going to say that this is Football, and it is supposed to be fun. Well if it's supposed to be fun, tell that to the coaches that work 7 days a week and get evaluated on their W's & L's on Friday Nights. If you want a "Mercy Rule", you better hope you don't play me. I teach my kids to play like we practice. If we can score 100, then we will. If we get beat by 100, then we lose the game and we get better from it.
  3. I guess since we have waited over 10 years, another couple months aren't going to hurt. I know I would not take the Lamar Football job. Think about it. Think about how important it is going to win, so people can say their alma mater is D1 (or FBS). Think about how hard it will be to get the "recruits" when you have a chemical plant literally in your view of the field. Think about how hard it will be to compete in the Southland at first. Think about the pressure from the Alumni. It will take a while to get everything rolling, but I am sure it will be done right. I will keep the coach in my prayers.
  4. I can't believe I just read this. I never thought I would see the day that 1. Chester has a chance to beat Burkeville or 2. Chester can make the playoffs. Burkeville must be really down. I knew it was bad there but they ALWAYS had a great football team. I think they went the entire decade of the 90's only losing 3 district games. I know for sure they went 5 years before they lost one. I am not surprised by this fight on the field. That's a rivalry that most people aren't aware of. Is Chester still playing on the sewage field ? I played my last high school football game on that field.
  5. Sad thing about this job :-\. I was never told that a High School Coach had to deal with so much negativity. If I were him, I would leave Vidor at Semester. Someone, somewhere will be more than happy to take a guy that really cares for the kids, works as many hours as he does and is a great guy to be around. It's really sad. I know when I have gone on interviews, I have never had an interview with a parent, but maybe Vidor could start doing that in their application process. I am sure (with the money & tradition that goes with the job) that people will be knocking down the door for the job.
  6. Well if Vidor decides to let thier HC go, please let me know. I know we will be looking for a coach up here in the Metroplex. Good Luck Vidor.
  7. As much as I hate to say this, guys it's not like Vidor has the tradition of being a power house football program. I think there are a few of you that need to get a degree (if you don't already), learn to spell, get teacher certified, & then get together and make a "Winning Football Team". I call the GT my home, but I seriously doubt Vidor will ever be a place that attracts people across the state. Let's face it, you don't have a very good reputation across the state or country. However, things have changes but the state (or country) haven't noticedit yet. Who would want this job with all of this negativity ? Why would someone want to come in here and Coach when he has to answer to this ? Lay off of Coach Matthews. Do you think he got dumb all of a sudden ? He probably doesn't have the talent he has had. I am sure if he had the talent (like you all say he has) he would be able to do great things again. It's easy to sit in the stands and gripe about not winning, etc... but until you are thrown into that role, you have no idea what it is like. If what I said has offended you, you are probably one of the "coaches" I am talking about. Go and become a real coach.
  8. If Lamar had a football team.... they probably wouldn't announce it. I am not going to hold my breath about this. I have been hearing this since I was in school there and that's almost 5 years ago. It's like Lamar and A&M ('06) have the same thing in common "Next year". I hope they do get a football team, and can win. I would hate to see Lamar finally pump money back into this, just to see it all fail. Recruiting in the GT would be important, but they need to go to SA, Houston and up here in DFW. I'd help them up here. I coach and see some outstanding football. If they go D1, good luck. I know I am tired of hearing and reading about the return of football, just for it not to happen. Hopefully the "powers to be" can bring it back.
  9. Trout, maybe you could take over the program and "teach" the kids. Maybe you can bring a staff of "real coaches". It's not about the X's and O's, it's about the Jims and Joes. I am sure the families of these coaches would love to read this thread.
  10. "Kids win games and Coaches lose games". I can remember a time when Vidor didn't win a game. I know a person that played for 4 years and never won a football game. I don't know what is going on in Vidor, but I am sure interested in seeing what happens. Good Luck Vidor, I hope you guys can get everything going to right way.
  11. I have coached in the Class A schools and now I am in Class 5A. The biggest difference in the classifications I think are experience. When I was coaching in the small schools, you played your sport by season (Football, Basketball, Baseball). The big schools, your kids play a club type ball the entire year. That's why I think kids in larger school have more experience. In smaller schools, coaches have to coach multiple sports (the same way in large schools, except you have more coaches to coach with you). In the small schools, I hated to have to find people to work the gate, keep the book and keep the score. In large schools, people volunteer (and they get paid to do it). There are pro's and con's about both. One thing they both have in common is at the end of the day, you have to have athletes. You have to have kids that will do whatever it takes to win. You have to motivate them. You have to be a good role model for your students. Most importantly, you have to love your job and live each day as if it were your last.
  12. This thread wouldn't have been started ? lol
  13. Dickie V. do you think any of the SOC teams could get an honorable mention ? Especially the 2005 & 2006 Teams with slim shady ? The top 5 teams on here were great. I just didn't know where SOC would stand compared to these.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if they made it to the State Tournament. They are good year in and year out but I know this group is especially good. Coach Foster is a great coach. They are just loaded top to bottom. Not too many Class A (or even AA) have 2 freshman, jv and varsity Basketball teams. I do think Spurger will get 2nd but the district title will run through Spurger in the next coming years. I have watched and even coached that group (Freshman), so I know what they are capable of. HD will get 3rd. They will be ATHLETIC, but I think it's Spurgers time to finally beat them. It should be a good game. Stapert vs. Henry
  15. I don't know that's what you experts on High School Basketball are for. I am just merely stating my opinion. Dickie V I know you are a coach also, so I know are used to this.
  16. Give Coach Westfall a chance here. Obviously he has coached a few Basketball games. The dual assignment is rough but it can be done. Roy Harper did it for 10 years that I know of. I am sure if someone that Coach Westfall could trust to coach the boys had applied, I am sure he would have given that guy the job. It's not like WH is the place to be right now (as far as Basketball goes). Like the old saying goes "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself".
  17. How can you guys forget Jason Wilkins (He Averaged 30+ points, & 10+ rebounds a game). He even led Evadale to a State Championship and then The Texas Cup. He also laid the smack down on Lamar when Nicholls State played Lamar. Another Player is Trey Peters. He wasn't a defensive player, but at 6'4 he led Kountze to the State Championship appearance and starred in the tournament fighting the flu. I'm not saying that Jason and Trey are a top 5 but they are for sure a top 15. Persia is another player that was incredible. I can remember him shooting the basketball from the volleyball line and he was very consistent.
