  1. no need to get touchy bobcat. you just gave us a better understanding of what finney ball means. i'm sure the loyal faithful don't care where the players come from as long as they get to win a few games. when hd plays alto in the playoffs, how many tds will hd win by? after all, you have to win that first one to go deep in the playoffs. right?
  2. so, let me get this straight? the best player for HD is a kid from baytown sterling that moved in the summer (along with his brother), and a kid from liberty is moving over at the end of the season when liberty isn't going anywhere and HD is headed into the playoffs? do i have that right? doesn't sound suspicious at all
  3. As much as I hate to do this, I partially agree with HD 55. West Hardin shouldn't be on that list. No one from that district should be anywhere near the top 25. However, I don't think HD beating West Hardin is a given. Anyway, look at it this way. The winner of that game will probably win district. The district winner gets a bye and will most likely play the winner of district 10. That will probably be Alto or San Augustine. And either of those teams will beat WH or HD by 30 or more.
  4. i was at HD last year for the West Sabine game. Last game of the year, playoffs on the line. I think HD had to win by about 10 or something, but they still had a shot for the 3rd spot. I sat on the HD side. There were maybe 50 fans there, not counting the two groups of scouts there. That's a fact. I have been there about 5 or 6 times over the years. The home stands are pretty big for a small school. I have been there when they were packed, but I have been several times in the last 5 years when they weren't anywhere close. Talk about tradition, the great teams from more than half a century ago, the impressive number of all time wins, the championship, or the good teams from the 80's or 90's. But please don't talk about how HD is above average over the last 10 years, because they aren't. They are barely over .500, with ZERO playoff wins. And please don't talk about packed stands and SRO, because that isn't true either. It's no different right now than any other decent 1a school. The stands are full for homecoming and maybe rivalry games, but mostly not. And when you can barely get 50 fans for a game when the playoffs are on the line, that isn't very good at all. I was there. I saw it.
  5. not from colmesneil. don't care much about them or any of the other weak teams from that weak 1a district. sorry to make you read so much. let me summarize. any team has a chance to win district next year. colmesneil has a new coach and some pretty good athletes, just like 2 other teams in that district. WH or HD are more likely to win the district in my opinion, but that's just my opinion. I don't know much about Iola, but I know they beat HD the last time they played. They have been in tougher districts lately. Realignment might be just what they need to get things going. Recent history indicates that these teams aren't likely to have success past district. I posted scores for HD's games. I could have posted the scores for WH. I think it's 6 or 7 first game losses. Most of them very lopsided except last year and one year against West Sabine. Colmesneil only has 1 playoff appearance in that span I think, and they lost a close one. Iola has had a little more success, but not much.
  6. Why is this guy so concerned about Colmesneil? That district is definitely one of the weakest in the state, if not the weakest. That is based on current rankings and RECENT performance. None of the teams from this district has won a playoff game in quite some time. HD winning their last playoff game in the 90s. Colmesneil has a new coach, they could get energized and do well next year. It happened to them 3 or 4 years ago. They got excited about football, had a few good players, and surprised a lot of people. It could definitely happen again. The same thing could happen in HD or WH. They both have new coaches. Teams can go from last to first at any level. It can certainly happen in the lower classifications where attitude and a few players can make a huge difference. And falcon certainly wasn't complimenting your team HD55. He said perennial bottom feeders. He probably should have frequent because those teams have had occasional, limited success. But make no mistake, he wasn't putting HD in the same category you put them in. Like most people, his opinion is probably based on recent history. Here's the history of HD's recent 9 year playoff run. It's 8 by my count, but HD55 said 9 so it must be right. Anyway, not much difference in 8 or 9. And there really isn't much difference in the results, lost (usually bad) in the first round. 2011 - did not make playoffs 2010 - lost to Normangee 42-14 2009 - lost to Lovelady 48-6 (i think that's more than 40. LL lost next round) 2008 - lost to Mart 28-0 2007 - lost to Groveton 48-27 (Groveton lost next round) 2006 - lost to Groveton 45-34 (Groveton lost 50-7 next round) 2005 - lost to Iola 40-14 (yep, that Iola, the one HD is way better than. Irony anyone?) 2004 - lost to Normangee (38-6 i think, but the uil website has the wrong bracket up) 2003 - lost to Timpson 26-12 2002 - did not make playoffs *note - none of the teams HD lost to won state. not that it makes any difference if you lose by 30 to the eventual state champion or a team that loses the next round
  7. Well, I wasn't going to post again but since Bobcat55 is worried about me, I'll say a few more things. First, like CodyLB34 said, the main point I was addressing was the stacked comment. Nobody disputes that one time in the very distant past HD was a powerhouse. Also, it is not disputed that HD won state in 1979. In case anybody had forgotten, the town just replaced the original state championship sign with a new one at Bobcat Stadium. Most teams go out and win another state championship, HD just gets a new sign. But I digress. The point I am making (unsuccessfully) is that HD is irrelevant on the statewide level, or even regional level. They may "dominate" their district from time to time, but that district is traditionally one of the weakest in the state. Let's take a closer look at the last 25 years. Records for playoffs scores are available at the UIL archive page, but they only go back to 1983, and the first few years just list the state champion. 85 - did not qualify for playoffs 86 - lost to Winona 41-26 in the Area (2nd) round 87 - did not qualify for playoffs 88 - did not qualify for playoffs 89 - lost to Groveton 55 - 3 in the Bi-District (1st) round 90 - lost in first round to Alto 40-21 91 - lost in first round to Grapeland 39-6 92 - did not qualify for playoffs 93 - lost in first round to San Augustine (score not available) 94 - lost in first round to Alto 35-7 95 - did not qualify for playoffs 96 - did not qualify for playoffs 97 - did not qualify for playoffs 98 - lost to Franklin 34-19 in the Area (2nd) round 99 - lost to Garrison in the Bi-District (1st) round 00 - lost to Hemphill 32-15 in the Bi-District (1st) round 01 - did not qualify for playoffs 02 - did not qualify for playoffs 03 - lost to Timpson 26-12 in the Bi-District (1st) round 04 - lost to Normangee 29-6 in the Area (2nd) round (received a bye in the 1st round) 05 - lost to Iola 40-14 in the Area (2nd) round (received a bye in the 1st round) 06 - lost to Groveton 45-34 in the Bi-District (1st) round 07 - lost to Groveton 48-27 in the Bi-District (1st) round 08 - lost to Mart 28-0 in the Area (2nd) round (received a bye in the 1st round) 09 - lost to Lovelady 48-6 in the Area (2nd) round (received a bye in the 1st round) In the last 25 years, HD has won 2 playoff games and has made it no deeper than the Area (2nd) round of the playoffs. They have lost to some good teams (some very good) but have not lost to the eventual state champion, let alone lost to them every year. And what does a 30 point loss to the eventual state champion mean anyway? Anyway, back to the point. Those stacked teams of the early 90s didn't win one single playoff game. If you care about district domination, then you go find the scores and post them. Frankly, I don't care how bad HD beat teams from their district nearly 20 years ago. On a side note, I think history can help or hinder a school and town. The tradition and history that HD has as a school could be a great thing to inspire the younger players, just like it obviously inspired you. On the other hand, it could make a school delusional and cause the residents to be stuck in the past, like 1979 for instance. I think the passion you have for your school and community is great, and that every community needs residents like you.
  8. What?! So none of the teams that beat those stacked HD teams won state? Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so. Also, in that timeframe HD finished 2nd twice and failed to make the playoffs twice. Maybe they had to forfeit several of those 50-0 crushings they were dishing out to the rest of their district. Or maybe, just maybe, your memory is a little hazy. I can understand that, it has been quite a while since those glory days. Anecdotal evidence is a kind of evidence, right? Here's some more good news for you, Alto, Grapeland, and Garrison are in the same region. Since the Carter administration (1980 so you don't have to look it up), two of those teams have more state championships than HD has playoff victories. Tradition should be made of sterner stuff.
  9. Talent stacked in HD like it was in the early 90s? Let's take a look at how that run went. 90 - lost in first round to Alto 40-21 91 - lost in first round to Grapeland 39-6 92 - failed to qualify for playoffs 93 - lost in first round to San Augustine (score not available) 94 - lost in first round to Alto 35-7 95 - failed to qualify for playoffs I bet all the teams in 1A are saying "ruh roh"
  10. East Chambers will win again this year. They are a very well coached team. Combine that with speed and it will be too much for Buna.
  11. I've had quite a few dealings with Coach Westfall. Here's something that may come as a bit of a surprise to you. Coach Westfall has almost 300 wins as a head basketball coach. No small accomplishment. That being said, it won't be easy to coach basketball over at West Hardin this year. Players like Letsinger don't come along very often at the 1A level. They also had a pretty good supporting cast over there too. Something the previous coach knew pretty well. Probably why he left. It's a shame, he could have proven that he was a top notch coach. And this is just a guess (maybe Coop can answer this), but I'm betting they didn't have applicants beating the door down. Is hssportsfan from there? Maybe he could do it? Or someone else from there, maybe somebody with the Little Dribblers program. I heard they won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in their league this year And one more thing. It's Football season.
  12. 1. East Chambers 2. Buna 3. Anahuac 4. Deweyville 5. Kountze 6. Hardin/Warren
  13. 1. East Chambers 2. Buna 3. Anahuac Dewewville will be in the running, but this will probably be the year that being a smaller school hurts them in the end. Kountze and Hardin will be better, if for no other reason than just believing they can win. Warren always plays tough. It should be a very exciting year for the district.
