  1. Much improved team. Had a chance for the DC and had every chance to avoid pulling Tom Brady and his D1 receivers but it happened. From what I understand the JV and freshman had a solid year. Let's get that 2012 team back (who I think would have made it to state in the new alignment instead of pulling the next years 6A team) anyway, a complete turnaround for the dogs. Thomas will be missed, he never had a chance to really show off and he made a heck of a noise in 8-5A

Not the game I expected as a Tiger fan. There was great respect for District 8 and its top 5 teams coming from Texas High. Not surprised we have a lead, but how the Tiger defense has contained the Bulldog running game.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, a neutral coach witnessing Texas High for the first time stated “Texas High has athletes all over the field”.

We will see if Nederland can throw the ball. The clock is not their friend running the ball. Thomas is a talented back.

We might go 3-1 from 8-5A, that's about it. This THS team is no joke. Thomas hasn't been able to bust one out yet and probably won't. Looks like it'll be a PNG/THS matchup round three.

I watched the Huntsville game and was impressed with the Nederland running back. I saw a nominal passing game, which was effective as a “surprise” element against a secondary focused on the run. IF Texas High gets a couple touchdown lead going in the 4th quarter, I question the ability of Nederland to come back against the Tiger secondary. If Nederland can keep it close, then who knows.

Huntsville was also a run first team and had success against the Bulldog defense. How the Bulldogs deal with the Tiger wide open offense will be a test. Texas High averages over 500 yds per game which are evenly distributed between the run and pass.  Tigers have three good running backs and don’t have one “go to” receiver.

Key for the Tigers is to limit the number of explosive plays by #1 and stop several drives each half.

No matter what, I suspect this will be a good first round challenge for both teams. It is understood that Nederland is not a normal 4 seed.

Huntsville is likely one of the fastest teams in the state. That isn't no normal "run first" team. They can fly

  4. I often wondered if Texarkana was even that good, you're talking about a team who barely beat an Arkansas program. Looking over their district it's not very strong. They may be really good, but I don't see all their credentials behind a high ranked team. Although the rankings don't mean much to me., somehow I find it hard to believe that Alamo Heights is in the top three. SA football isn't strong at all
