  1. This is second hand information; however, I understand HJ came up short 14-6.  Not sure who they played.
  2. Great Play!  A question for you NCAA rules experts out there, why wasn't this play flagged?  If I recall, my son's team ran a similar play but was penalized for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.  When we did the research we found a Section in the NCAA rule book call "Noncontact Fouls" "Unfair Tactics" - Article 2 which delineated several scenarios similar to the Pearland play.  All the scenarios had the same basic underlying theme of intent to deceive.  It certainly appeard Pearland's intent was to deceive, but maybe it was legal.
  3. The general consensus is that the penalty was for roughing the Kicker.  Based on the circumstances, I can see why there is confusion.  If you watched the Ref give the signal, the penalty was for a personal foul, helmet to helmet contact.
  4. I agree!  I was looking forward to attending the series in a packed, out of control house, in a nearby location like like Spring High School, the yard at the Woodlands, or even UH.  Coach Smith has ties to TAM as a graduate and 4yr. baseball letterman and his son Adam is currently attending the university on a baseball scholarship.  Probably will not affect attendance too badly, when these two schools meet in district, it is usually standing room only.  However, I was really looking forward to seeing this series played locally.  Prediction:  2 of 3 games will go extra inning with Klein taking the series 2-1.  Just depends on who gets the breaks, both teams are evenly matched!  Damn it I wish they would have agreed to play the games in Houston!
  5. Team has to break the huddle with 12 men for it to be a violation.  The intent of the rule is to prevent offenses from attempting to confuse defenses.  A situation where a player is confused and runs on the field and then back off realizing he is not in the play is not a foul.  Conceivably, A team can have 30 men on the field as long as only 11 are legally on the field at the snap.
  6. Coach Washington was asked by the officials, and he requested to go on offense first for the second OT.  He maybe wanted to rest his defense.
  7. The shortstop is Drake Roberts, he is the real deal. He played summer ball with my nephew last year with the Texas Prospects Banditos. He is just a soph but has already committed to the University of Arkansas. Some expect him to go high in the MLB draft once he is eligible. A bit small as compared to a prototypical SS, but plays, throws, and has power like he is 6'2. Exciting to watch.
  8. Tim Millis is a retired NFL Official and retired supervisor of Big Twelve Officials. He is still involved with officiating in some capacity and I had a chance to hear him speak a couple of years ago. He told a story of time his NFL crew had a game with the Atlanta Falcons when Jerry Glanville was the head coach. As required before game time, he and another official met with the head coaches of both teams to discuss issues, unusual plays, etc. According to Tim, the other official that accompanied him was an umpire and not much to look at. I believe his name was Ralph something or other. During the pre-game conference with the Falcon coaching staff, Glanville remarked to Ralph that he noticed he got new eye-glasses. Ralph to his surprise indicated to Glanville that no one else had noticed, not even his wife. Glanville’s said “I’am not surprised, your bleeping (edited for publication) me more than your bleeping her.â€
  9. Coach to Ref: "Son, that is the worst call I have ever seen, how long have you been an official?" Ref to Coach: "This is my first time on the field, but I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night." Coach pats offical on the backside and walks off shaking his head with a big grin.
  10. The purpose for the rule is primarily safety. If you all recall, an official ran into a coach on a long run two years ago and the coach suffered severe head injuries. He will never be able to coach again. His family is sueing the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) for damages. That said, TASO will be extremely sensitive to this issue.
