TOUGHER BI-DISTRICT TOP TO BOTTOM
Mr. Buddy Garrity replied to cougar14's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads

Well you have to first define "Competitive". Is a district competitive when it has a lot of strong teams or when most teams are close in strength? The first scenario best defines 19-4a and the second best defines 20-4a. However when you look at it from the perspective of a consistently strong team like Ned, 20-4a looks less competitive. However, if you look at dayton in 19-4a, which likewise is consistently strong, the situation is ironically competitive from their perspective. This is because they have a few teams frequently in their district (BH, crosby) that are close to their level of ability. In conclusion, I find dayton's playoff streak very impressive. Although 20-4a usually has a pretty solid PNG squad and these past 2 years an inspiring Vidor team, I would argue that Ned does not have to struggle as much as the better teams in 19-4a do to make the playoffs.
I disagree, 20-4a usually has at least 5 teams that are in close competition for 4 spots, with the last spot usually coming down to head-to head or a 3 way tie breaker. 19-4a was pretty much set , with 5th place 3 games out. Ned has struggled plenty, including the couple of years of widespread injuries to key players and still made the playoffs. As far as strong teams, most of the time it is a 2-2 split with 19 in bi-district with a few 3-1 one way or the other.
Aint that the truth, seen a little bit of that last year. -

There are athletes in Baytown. For whatever reason, they get to high school and start getting left behind by the likes of PAM, NS, LP, WB, etc. The only thing I can think of would be work ethic as being the difference. I know it is more than just having a good coach, but also the players and parents that have to make it a priority. I heard a quote one time that said something like "the role of a coach is to get players to do what they don't want to do in order to become the player they've always dreamed of being." I think it was Lombardi but am not sure. We have some skill players but some think they just show up without putting in the time to train. And how do you get the big boys out of the halls? Maybe the moon and stars have to align just right for the right group of boys to come through that excels in spite of the poor work ethic or maybe it is finding "that" coach that is a lightning rod of change.
you partially right (in bold). there's athletes in Baytown, just not alot at RSS like other schools in 21-5A at the moment. DP doesnt have an abundance of athletes but they make up for it with their coaching staff. ;)
Take Deer Park HS, divide it into 3 schools. Now let's see them make up for it with their coaching. Compare apple's to apple's.
La Porte says hello. Of course, that's not really apples to apples either, is it? La Porte would be the mini apple.
lol ;D -

If he would have been out against elgin bh might have won. 3 int and 2 fumbles even dayton could have had their way with bh.
Denny was healthy when he played the Bronco's , He had laid out several games prior to the playoffs and only had one game under his belt after coming back. Just compair the Bronco's and BH's common opponents from last year and even a Bronco can see that the angles landed on the Purple ponies that night in BH ;)
common opponents. Its bad when a player is placing an order with someone to get something from the concession stand in the 1st qtr of a game versus PAM and have fans leaving the game after PAM scores its 1st TD of the game. Hopefully the kids will be motivated this year and the fans follow suit. -
