1. I know MHS32, Chancellor will most likely be gone next year.  My belief is that Poole will tell Gage to be the bad guy and he will inform Chancellor that his duties are no longer needed.  You are correct about female coaches, there has already been one there who did as she pleased.
2. In Texas, most school districts give you a one year probationary contract.  Your second and third years are also one year probationary which means you can be released without reason.  Other than having a probationary contract, which I doubt the Toon and Chancellor have, they can not be released without reason.
3. Wow, talk about people getting their panties in a wad.  Dont worry, Im going to hang around long enough for you people to eat some crow on this one.  The only reason Gage is at BH is for the cash.
4. BHFan, what exactly is this "fondation" you speak of?  Sorry, I had to. 7mary3, please research before you post.  I have stated several times that I do not have a kid in the program.  I played there 10 years ago, so that would mean that I am too young to have a kid in the HS program.  My point is that if Coach Price would have said something similar to this that people would be bashing him on here because he is negative.
5. That is my point exactly SETEXFan.  Kids need to be told the truth, but there are many in BH who can not handle it.
6. In one sentence he praises the old regime by stating “I’m impressed with their work ethic and attitudes, and that’s a tribute to the people that have been here. It’s really encouraging. The foundation of what we want from our kids is in place.” Then in another statement he says “Some of those kids can’t walk and chew gum at once but a couple months on those things make a world of difference.” To me, the latter quote is not a positive one.  Wont the athletes at BH read this?  How will they feel about their new HC when they see this?
7. Coach starts off-season activities with new team By Nathan Hague The Baytown Sun Published February 18, 2010 Editor’s note: The start of the 2010 high school football season is only six months away. This is the first of a series on how area schools conduct their winter and spring off-season programs to prepare for the Friday night lights. MONT BELVIEU — Even though football season isn’t going on right now, one could argue the off-season is really just the beginning of football season. It’s a new beginning for Barbers Hill coach Ronny Gage who has been with the program for less than a month and is ready to go. “If you ask almost any coach,” Gage said, “he’ll tell you his favorite time of the year is the off-season. That’s when you’ll learn who will work and who won’t and who’s willing to go the extra mile.” In his short time here, Gage likes what he has learned so far and is excited in getting to know his players. “In the next week or two, I’ll sit down with them individually to get to know them,” he said. “I’m impressed with their work ethic and attitudes, and that’s a tribute to the people that have been here. It’s really encouraging. The foundation of what we want from our kids is in place.” Gage said the process is going “fast and furious,” and knows there’s a lot of work to do. “I don’t jump into skill early,” he said. “Right now, we’re working on strength and development as we continue to improve athletic ability. This is a way of instilling work habits that, during football season, will transform to playing four quarters of football on Friday nights.” Time is a major factor for Gage and his staff, as they only get one hour of athletic period per day to try and develop their players. “We’ll continue doing this (strength and development) for probably the next four or five weeks,” he said. “Then we’ll look into skills and work with quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, defensive backs and each position individually. “We’ll start teaching the offense philosophy and as we progress to the end of spring and focus more on the team aspect. It goes from strength and development to skill work to team-oriented stuff.” Some high school football coaches have a “hell week” where they work more intensely but Gage doesn’t take that approach. “It’s just different philosophies,” he said. “We’re going to be intense all the time. We’re going to work intense but we’re going to have fun. You’re emphasizing what you do (during hell week) and saying it’s more important than what we do every other day. “We’re all trying to accomplish the same thing but how you get to that point is up to the coaches. It’s about consistency of the program.” When it comes to developing his players, Gage has a secret tool: jump ropes. “It’s something simple I learned several years ago,” he said. “Just the simple jump ropes, two dollar ones, and have the kids work with them. It’s been the best tool for me in watching the development happen. “Some of those kids can’t walk and chew gum at once but a couple months on those things make a world of difference.” He also likes to implement what he calls competition days where the players compete against each other in different areas on the field. “It’s just a fun thing, where they’re competing and working as well,” Gage said. “Competition day also gives us the opportunity to see if one kid might lay it down on the line quicker than another kid or if someone might be a better fit somewhere else. “We try to do anything that might relate to Friday nights. Kids take a lot of pride in work. You’re building that and chemistry and pride.” Gage plans on working with his kids in the summer but also wants to give them time off. “I believe kids need a chance to be kids,” he said. “I want them to go hunting, fishing and all those things. We provide the opportunity for them to go through strength and conditioning, but we’re trying to maintain what we just spent all spring to get.” Until that point, Gage is taking one step at a time and right now, he’s still getting to know his players and his school, where he plans on building upon tradition. “It’s a busy time,” he said, “but it’s a fun time.”
8. Here is what I have found year by year at Lamar Consolidated: 2002  1-9 2003  0-10 2004  2-8 2005  11-1 2006  13-1 2007  13-2 2008    6-3 2009    4-6
9. Lamar Consolidated went 4-6 this year and did not play a freshman schedule.  I believe they are also opening a new school down which does not help.  I do know that Lamar Consolidated was his "dream job" because that is his home town.  Makes you wonder why he would leave that place.
10. There was a board meeting last night according to their website.  I have heard several names in the running but would like to know for sure.
11. How about we wait until some W's are put up before we bow down to the school board.  Their voice in who is hired is not as big as you might think.
12.

Yes, Coach Price is actively looking for a HC job.  I know of 3 interviews that he has been on recently, may be more that I dont know about.
Hmmm... I wonder?  If Price goes to a district BH has to compete against and they beat THE HILL will the school board bring him back like they did Skidmore?  :o  LOL
There is a possibility that he may coach against BH in the near future.  What are you talking about "the board bringing back Skidmore"?  Coach Skidmore first got out of coaching due to health issues.  When the Dr. told him he could return  a couple years later, he took the Anahuac HC job and did beat BH his only year there.  BH was 7-3 that year and Anahuac was 2-8.  That loss to Anahuac cost BH a playoff birth.  That was McGallions last year at BH and Coach Price took over in June.  Yes, we went through the entire Spring without knowing who the coach would be.  The school board did not bring Skidmore back to BH, Coach Price did.  Coach Price had to put a staff together in a couple weeks and hired Skidmore as his OC.
13. Yes, Coach Price is actively looking for a HC job.  I know of 3 interviews that he has been on recently, may be more that I dont know about.
14. Doesnt suprise me that Stump applied.  He knows Barbers Hill as he was McGallions OC from 95-97 there.  Those were not very good years for BH.  Zero playoff appearances.
15.

BH has overachieved in the past 10 years.  They have beaten some teams with more talent because of hard work by the staff and kids.
Coach -- your bitterness is a cancer.  That's why a change had to be made. You really should be actively looking for another job and NOT posting on a football website all day. This is obviously a new and brighter day for the blue and white.
You are mistaken my friend, I am not a coach at BH.  Dont know where you get your information fromm but check again.  I have a great job that allows me to be on the this site from time to time.  I do have ties to BH though, I was part of the 1999 team that went 3 deep.
16. I applied ,but the board thought they should go outside of the area  ;D Oh yes I do want playoff success but with a new coach you can't expect results right off the bat. Give him 2-3 years to work out the kinks then lets worry about playoff success. I do think however that we will see some quick results due to the talent coming up, just like Price did in the early years. You are correct BH doesn't have a superstar and thats my point either does other teams!!! BH always overacheives at every sport and that is due to the Pride, Tradition, Teachers, Parents and Community! The coaches get these kids for a short period of time during there lives, some make them better while some do not. BH will continue to overachieve! I just hope that the folks that think like you (That we are so un talented) get removed from this program! First thing these kids need is to BELIEVE and it has to be hard with comments that they have no athlete's and everyone is better and only Price could coach them. Give the kids a chance with the right elements in place they can compete!! Oh and one question for ya "They have beaten some teams with more talent because of hard work by the staff and kids." What teams have BH beaten that they were the underdog too? The only one I can think of was Galena Park in 08
I am not part of the program, but I was as a player who helped turn around BH into a winner again.  People forget that BH was mediocre at best from 93-98.  i just hope that they do not turn into that again.  BH's best class is the sophomores right now.  Luckily quite a few of them got significant playing time this year.  They should be better because of all the underclassmen being put on the field Friday nights.  If you honestly think that BH can compete with the big dogs of 4A, you are dillusional.
17. I dont see why BH did not hire BHFAN, he is such the expert at football.  What will be the determining factor in your opinion?  You have been screaming for playoff success then contradict yourself with that last statement.  You talk about Dayton and Crosby having no superstars, well neither does BH.  But if you ask any coach in the area, they will tell you that Dayton and Crosby have better athletes.  BH has overachieved in the past 10 years.  They have beaten some teams with more talent because of hard work by the staff and kids.
18. BHFan the fact is if this guy does not go 2, 3, or 4 deep in the playoffs The Hill will be searching for a replacement in a few years.  With his resume I can only think of one reason he would take the BH job.  He has spent his entire career in North Texas, and money lured him.  I bet it was not the beautiful landscape of the Mont Belvieu area.  He has a tough job in front of him.  He has to personnel a wishbone offense with kids who know nothing about that type of game.  Finding an option qb and bruising fb will be tough.  I wish BH the best, but I still dont see them as a 3 deep contender, I dont care who's coaching them.
19. Good luck to Coach Gage, he is a big name in the coaching world.
20. I can guarantee you that any applicant that is serious about taking the job at BH has done their research regarding Poole and his antics.  He has done some things in the past as an administrator that would make taking this job difficult.  For example, as a principal he would often try to over step his boundaries and question the HC about play calling.  I would put money on it that most of the people that have interviewed know this.
21. alumni88, the next time you have a thought....let it go.  Sounds like someone has sour grapes for some reason.
22. The last sentence in that article means that he played 2 sports in college.  The guy is a heck of a football coach, plain and simple.
23. Biggen, I do not think BH has been "just fine" in 4A.  Yes the first year was good, and had a chance to win in the 1st round but since then the talent has dropped and so have the wins.  Is that all the coaching staffs fault?  No it is not.  Either way, a change was made and hopefully they hire a very qualified person.
24. gcmbigdaddy, hopefully these guys dont play for GCM. [Hidden Content]
25. Yes, Hugh Sandifer has been on campus this week.  I dont see him taking the job after 25+ years at Abilene Wylie.  I would be willing to bet that money wont be an issue with him, he is probably already making 100K or so at Wylie.
