I was there also, we got inside the 20 several times , But lost our big fullback on a kick return or coverage team and we just couldn't punch it in.  I think it was Eric ?? .  Brian Cleveland was also on that team , and I think Andre Robertson was QB.

Carter didn't even win their district that year.  They were runner-up behind Duncanville.  They were waaaay overhyped because of the book and movie.  It's really difficult to compare teams over decades because the game has evolved so much.  Waco in the 1920's had a stretch allowing less points than Daingerfield and made six state finals in a row.  Abilene in the 1920's and 1950's.  They went one year only allowing 3 points and that was to Waco in the state championship.  Big Sandy in the early 1970's set scoring and defensive records.

WOS was tied with Houston Yates 6-6 in the 4th quarter leading in penetrations until Yates scored two TDs at the very end to win it in 1985.  I was at that game at the dome.  One of the saddest drives home ever.

I'm not going to argue, but it has nothing to do with what they did at West Brook. Pear Orchid wanted their own school (Hebert). When that was taken away by merger and then when they created Ozen, alot of folks didn't support it because they felt BISD wasn't letting them hire who they wanted. The reason for high number of different coaches, hardly any fan support. Same thing in PA when they took away Lincoln, TJ, and SFA. That was my attempt at comparison.

Just because some people don't spend most of their time on a message board has nothing to do with being real fans of Memorial.  I like the back and forth banter, but sometimes I don't.  I make most of the games as most of us do.  Everybody has this or that to say about each program.  That's part of being a fan, but to crown yourself as the ultimate PAM fan is laughable.  A lot of people in Port Arthur still bleed purple/maroon and gold. (yall remember how serious it was) A lot of history was taken away from PA when they consolidated the schools and a lot of folk haven't forgiven or gotten over that.

I'm rooting for you. Unfortunately this isn't 1980 and even that season ended in disappointment. You still have 6 weeks left potentially. Do it! Just like churchgoers who only show up on holy days there are fairweather fans. I'd love to see Port Arthur back up where it was for 6 decades

Is Bellville any different from last year? WOS is pretty much the exact same just one year older and 12 games further along in experience since we last met them.

Well in the words of a die hard Celina fan - "Don't sleep on Tarkington. This one will be uncomfortably close at kickoff. But WOS's depth and skill will allow them to pull away late on their opening drive."
But in all seriousness. One game at a time folks. Give a team something to read on their locker room board and things can change. Read that story about the La Marque - Hitchcock game.

Will it happen?  Last team to do it was SFA in 1994.  TJ's last was in 1982. Lincoln 1973.  PAM never.
Don't feel bad Ned, PNG and Beaumont fans.  You have them beat on that record.  Ned, PNG, Ozen, Central and West Brook have all accomplished the feat this century.  Let them enjoy their season.  It's not over yet though is it??

As little as you think of WOS judging from your comments on other threads I'm shocked Henderson is even worried about these "puny" SE Texas teams...  WOS beat LCM 45-0, BC 55-0 and Silsbee 51-2... why the concern now?

We need to leave him alone and remember that for folks who are not WOS fans, this game was a moral victory. WOS fans don't live by the moral victory creed but some people do and that is what makes the world go round. Congrats to Liberty!!! You EXPOSED the Stangs like never before. Your game plan was pure genius and you kept a high powered offense off the field for 37 minutes. Your usage of every second of the game clock worked as planned and you scored on the Mustangs which was the first td in 2 years by a district opponent. All in all it gave the Mustangs a new task to overcome and you shook up the world!!!! The halftime score pretty much rocked the state and sent shockwaves throughout the Region as fans across the state "OOOHed" with amazement. You did something that to many seemed impossible and we applaud you on this day. God bless Liberty and good luck to you for the rest of the season. May your time of possession be long and your yardage plentiful. There that should make him happy! hahahahaha

What's even funnier is that someone will come on this message board, post a negative topic about a school with one of the largest fan bases on said board, and then when several members of that large fan base respond to this original post in a negative manner, the topic originator or others that support him decries that he or she can't make negative posts about a certain school "without being attacked," sometimes even resulting in page long filibusters about leaving the board due to the "attacks."
Another equally funny one is that the same thing as above happens but then the topic originator hails their ability to elicit such negative feedback as some sort of accomplishment to be applauded.
I would go as far as labeling it hilarious, but then I remember that it is usually left to me clean things up when someone goes racial, personal or physical on one of these types of threads, which it seems more often than not these threads tend to do.

Woulda coulda shoulda... blah blah blah. The game's in the books. IF Liberty had had such and such... who cares, they didn't! If WOS had a bunch of 280lb rugby players to push back it would have been yet another 60+ game to nothing.

Even without that and only having the ball 10 minutes WOS still had 330 yards of offense and 15 first downs.
The problem with this whole argument is that WOS has the #1 rated Offense AND Defense in 4A so until a team can figure out how to stop both it doesn't really matter if you come up with a surprise plan to slow down one of the two.  All these one-dimensional run only teams that look like they are seeing a ghost when the ball is actually passed aren't gonna put a dent against WOS. Once you get behind by one score you're pretty much doomed because you won't catch up and eating up the clock works against you at that point. When WOS went up 19-7 that game was over.
Actually it was over when WOS went into the half up 13-7 because they knew they were getting the ball to start the 3rd which is why Liberty was already in desperation mode kicking that failed on-side kick to start the 3rd quarter.

So, we should see Giddings, who currently scores 37 points a game or Lorena or Bellville, who both score about 33 a game, junk or adjust their current offense in favor of an offense that appeared to be the football equivalent to the late Dean Smith's 4 corners offense at Carolina?  Hey Blackflag, do you see Matt Turner going to Poppy Brown and telling him this week, "I know you have thrown for over 3,000 so far this year and we are scoring about 50 points a game, but I think we are gonna junk the spread for this offense that I saw Liberty run against West Orange-Stark and I thought that they moved the ball easily?"
Giving up yards is one thing, giving up points is another.  And for all of yards that Liberty gained, for all of the time that they ate up, for all of the plays that they made that were taken away by the officials, themselves or the alignment of the stars, they were able to increase the points per game allowed average for West Orange-Stark from 2.9 points per game to an alarming 3.3 points per game.
    Good job.
