  1. My objective opinion is that Will is an exceptional athlete. He did an outstanding job against PNG. A team who did not have the luxury of preparing for him. What I'm looking at is the ultimate goal. A state championship. We have had athletes in the past who try to do to much. Force passes when they shouldn't wait to long on passes they should throw and just generally, make bad decisions in paramount games as evidenced by 17 turnovers in 3 regional semi-final games. Dallas has taken his lumps, no doubt, but I think he will gain confidence and become a good decision maker and a good field general. I believe he can become a person who can manage the game. Most state champions today have QB's who do well at managing the game. They don't make mistakes and they don't turn the ball over. The Carthage QB last year was not the best athlete on the field, but he did a great job of managing the game and getting the ball to the people who can make plays. The same with the Navasota QB the year before. They played smart and distributed the ball. Peyton Manning is not the best athlete on the field and neither is Tom Brady, but they have the hardware to prove they are the best choice at QB.

None of the QB's of the last few yrs have gone into the latter part of the season with people still chattering about why they are at the position or giving others a shot. Apparently, Jack has earned a shot and any REAL Mustang fan should support that decision. I believe, when all is said and done, he'll be one of the best we've had. Some may like that, some may not, but it's my opinion. Best athlete on the field? Nope. Best choice for QB? I believe so and I believe, given time, he will prove it. So, that's my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Lol. I'm done there is soooooo much home cooking in this post. This is America and everyone has the right to their opinion and I respect that. If I understand you right you just blamed our last 3 playoff losses on the quarterbacks.then you pretty much said that the past qb's were athletic but not smart enough to manage the game. I know anything is possible but you actually said that the current qb could be one of the best ever. Like I said I'm done. Never to respond to this crap again.
  2. So you think a high school program should be all about winning at all cost regardless of the character and behavior of the student? I may have misunderstood your comment?

I think you did misunderstand. Let's presume that they are all great kids(and I think they are) now read 21 hondo's post. Makes since doesn't it ?
  3. I think your a little hard on ole Chuk. It would be hard for another coach to come in here and run T's 52 defense. One of the advantages we have had is the constant of the Chain Gang defense. We teach it in Lil Mustangs all the way up to high school and have for years. Several teams have talent perhaps equal or slightly less to the Mustangs in our area but are a good coach away from turning their program around. A good coach means a lot, just ask hj. A good coach can make the talent better, a bad coach and it really doesn't matter the talent level. We have gone through a lot of assistant coaches in our history, not all of them were good coaches. The one constant except for a year or so has been Cornel Thompson.

We have been blessed with a lot of kids that can really play football, but I will tell you for sure some of the best football players never played football at WOS. They didn't want to go through the conditioning he makes the players go through. Just for the record I am talking about black, white, and hispanic kids. Yes, talent will rise to the top, but it is the coach who either gives that talent a place to shine or have that talent on the bench and never see the light of day.

We are really blessed in our communities to have outstanding men teach or our kids at the peewee level. We are oustanding because we are all on the same page. Bring someone else in and that page, like it or not, does get changed and would have take some time to be adjusted to.

Your way off base with the Penn State remark.  Believe it or not, he knows a thing or two about coaches.

I have been absent for a while ind missed a few post.
I really like this post. You were spot on about the youth football program running the same defense being important. You spoke about the tradition here in orange and the FACT there this is a talent rich town. I do believe that it takes a a good coach to take all those ingredients and put together a winning program. Which Thompson has done. BUT I don't think I was to hard on him because unlike you he only credited Thompson. As far as the penn state remark I do apologies because that situation was horrible. My comment was based on the similarities in attitudes and the protect the program at all cost atmosphere. As I read through some of the post on this site it's scary how many folks loose it when someone questions Thompson. It's borderline cultish. I stated in an earlier post that some folks put too much faith in man. Any man not just the coach. It is a recipe for disaster because the man becomes bigger than the sport, school, church or anything he heads. That usually leads to followers compromising themselves when dealing with the man. I'm not admitting that that's what's going on at WOS but it is alarming to watch. WOS 35-6
  4. I don't think that the kids were over confident against Newton I think they were just tired. The Richmond Foster game was a war that the Mustangs fought waaaaaay above their heads and almost came out with the win. you see teams in college and the pros that loose a tough game and then come out flat in the next game.they should be fine in district.

  5. Is that a good thing or a bad thing that others coaches cant coach like they coach at WOS ? I can't believe that you said that WOS would be JUST ANOTHER 500 TEAM without Thompson. anyone who makes a statement like that is cannot be trusted to be objective about anything dealing with WOS football. you have discounted the efforts of hundreds of players and a lot of coaches. sounds like one of those Penn State cult type of situations.

  6. WOS does need to make changes on offense. Their offense is not designed to make plays. From what I have seen over the years wos's offense relies on the players to make a super human effort for them to work. That will work against the lesser teams but when a team matches WOS 's talent and speed it won't work. I know no one wants to hear this but the difference between us scoring 7 offensive points agame and the 40 a game we scored last year is Dillion making the plays work. If it wasn't for DT playing balls out we wouldn't even get the 7. At this point in time jack can't make those plays. Thompson has to stop expecting him to. WOS plays 10 straight games with a break in week 11. If they keep going at the pace they are going they will limp into the playoffs and that's a scary thought.
  7.  coach T and his staff have there work cut out  for them this week and it starts with the mustangs DBs. pn-g made it look easy at times agnest  what some people have said ONE  of the  DB S  IN THE STATE but pn-g showed how easy it was JMO

WOS helped PNG out by playing a soft zone. with todays offenses and all the 7 on 7 work the kids get its hard to play zone. All PNG did was come off the line and set down in the open spot. once WOS went to man it disrupted the rithem. WOS did the same thing against Ennis in 2000. soft zone in the first half and  in your face man the second half. the only difference is Ennis had better speed.

  8. ]dont get bent out of shape he will be pulled up to varsity soon .tonight dallas ,will be put under the looking glass  and  see if he can stand the presser of a strong png club, but as of today dallas is wos qb.just look back at last year  chris was the mustangs starting qb then  cam  cole  hing tight

Wow you seem to have a lot of inside information. I don't get bent out of shape or emotional about sports but I will say this. Football at WOS is a microcosm of life in orange.
  9. [quote name="wo-s#1" post="1526217" timestamp="1409954124"]I know all 4 u referring to.crouch was coaches son and agree that was a bad decision on the coaching staff,as far as Jack and kj the right decision is made, not doubting kj at all he is good, but Jack is better, but of course this is my opinion like u had yours[/

We disagree on who is better but that's cool. This is america so we can disagree. My point is that I just hate when one person is given the job over the other without both having a chance to compete for the job on the field. that's what happened with crouch and that seems to be what's happening here. In my humble opinion.
  10. WOS has been here before with Ryan crouch and Rasheed Dennis. The went into the spring in a seposed qb battle. During the spring game I saw something I had never seen before. Crouch played the entire game except for the final 3 drives for both the blue and silver team and could not lead rather team on a scoring drive. Dennis played the last 3 drives and lead the team to two touchdowns. Crouch went on to start the next two years at qb. Was that fair to Dennis. No. Is WOS going to give miller a chance to compete for the job at qb. No. This is the culture at WOS. If you are a fan of WOS football you see what's going on. Young Dallas is an extraordinary young man but he is not the BEST option at qb. Will we still win probably. #varsity blues.
  11. That # 4 Kid @ QB is gonna be moved up. He just had a great game tonight! Only 3 incompletions & had 2 Td passes & ran for 1.

He cannot be moved up for tomorrow. You can only play in one football game a week. If you knew Rutledge was off the team why would you play that # 4 tonight when you know you will need him tomorrow?
  12. One thing to pay attention to is how secondaries play our receivers. In both scrimmages they played about 6 to 7 yards off our receivers. It makes it a little difficult to go deep as much as we'd like to. I think moving forward, we need to develop that short passing game, because it will open up so much more for us.

You missed my point. Every one plays off of wos They always did out of respect for the speed. I wanted to see WOS run some slants or square in's. Anything that requires timing and goes to the middle of the field. WOS very seldom throws the ball to the middle of the field. If you watch closely you will see that other teams give us everything between the hash marks because they KNOW wos doesnt throw there. a friend of mine told me that wos dosnt throw there because Thompson is afraid of turnovers. So most passes are short and outside or long and outside. That way you have the sideline to bail you out.
  13. WOS should win the district easily. Right now there are small problems on defense but those will be fixed as the season goes on. IMO the biggist issue WOS has is throwing the ball down field. In both scrimmages the majority of our passes go no further than five yards past the Los. Every now and then we throw a deep pass to Thompson. I was hoping to see both quarterbacks get a chance to show if they can make the throws.
  14. ]Do not underestimate the Dallas boy, he is cool under fire and knows what he is doing. He adjusts very well, he just needs some PT. KJ is very talented player also. Neither has the arm that Chase does but not many do, they both will be good QBs.

Both Jack and Chase look like they are throwing baseballs from short to first. That pass jack threw to Thompson nearly got him him hurt.
