  1. I will never knock coach bryant. I believe he does a very good job. But this isn't coach of the last 2 years. It is coach of this year. I think you have to look at the teams that have overachieved. Here is my list in no particular order. Walton WB-Won a tough 5A district no one really gave them a shot in. Griffith LCM-Won a tough 4A district no one really gave them a shot in. Green Vidor-Got Vidor in the playoffs for first time in 40 years. HJ (sorry can't call his name) No one predicted them to get in the playoffs. And I mean all the way through the play in game people were stll not picking them. I would add Mixon, but I think people expected what they have done this season with the talent they have on the field. But he does do a good job. Coach Bryant jumps back toward the top of the list if they defeat Carthage. But as of right now if they loose this series IMO they have underachieved just a little this season. While these other teams have overachieved a great deal.
  2. In regards to the pitching being down recently and not having anyone touch 90. I would say just look at 20-4a alone last year. PNG Harwood 88-90 Rice McCinnis 89-91 Lamar Myer 86-88 often injured but you can't question the talent (McClennon) Nederland Smith 88-91 Lamar LCM Ehlert 88-91 Texas A&M My goodness this is just one district. This year the area doesn't seem to be full of guys throwing 90 except the kid from Dayton. Who is legit 88-90. But these things run in cycles and many area teams are playing with some younger players who will likely be up near 90 in the future. Here are a few candidates: Hicks BC Harrington PNG Spikes PNG Smessney Dayton Lott Ozen Svoboda (sp) Westbrook Sampere Ned Brown LCM Barry LCM Hester Vidor If just 3 or 4 of these guys get to that level (and I am sure I left some out) then they are right up there were this area has always been.
  3. Sorry I couldn't get it to open. Thanks for reposting. Glad he is doing better.
  4. Thought maybe some of you BH people might have some details from this tune up game last night?
  5. Surely the district champion had the MVP. I mean Schooling and Calhoun didn't make the playoffs. Stringer didn't pitch well in the game to win the district title (from what I heard, wasn't there). Now a strong case could be made for Treece, but a slight edge would have to go to the district champion.
  6. Will there be a nomination thread like last year so people can post stats and things.
  7. When will you start having nominations for this all area team?
  8. Thanks Coop that is what I was affraid of. It looks nasty up there.
  9. Should be an exciting weekend. I for one can't wait.
  10. Coop is the rain out in SA right now the stuff coming this way for Thursday?
  11. With 5a winners no longer having a buy and the Bears not wrapping up the district title until the last game, the pickings were probably slim. But all things considered it is a good game for LCM and Woodville. LCM will get to see a D-1 pitcher that is as good as any they will see in the playoffs. Maybe better than any they have seen so far this season. And Woodville will get to face a team that is as good or better than any they are about to see on their was to Austin. So I say win-win for both teams no matter the score. No prediction on scores for any warmup game. You just never know how each coach will play it.
  12. Is this coming from the coaches. Because I would really like to make plans to be there.
  13. They would be co-district champs. They could do something as simple as just agree on the seeding for the playoffs if one coach doesn't mind taking second. He might like his matchups in that part of the bracket better. Also they could just flip a coin since it is just the seeding at stake. But if they both want the first seed then they will play on Saturday.
  14. Surely not. Maybe close if they have a lead, but it would be crazy to start him on 3 days rest with PNG on Friday.
  15. Who will both teams have to throw. I can't see Dewey pitching on 3 days rest with PNG on Friday. But with Nederland having Lumberton on Friday Nederland might be able to throw Helmke on 3 days rest. Anybody have any insight.
  16. Sorry Jags but I don't see this happening either but I will answer your question. There would be a 3 team playoff. Some type of coin flip with the winner getting a by. The other two teams would play on Saturday then the winner would play the team that won the coin toss (probably right after the first game). The winner of that game is in the playoffs.
  17. An interesting side note will be how each team decides to handle their pitching staff. Mainly when does Dayton use Dewey. With 4 games in 5 days and a must win against Vidor on Monday. LCM has a red hot Nederland team on Saturday. I think both teams will save their best pitching to throw against Vidor and Nederland in the must win games. Therefore it is a slugfest. LCM 10 Dayton 9 in 8 innings.
  18. Can anyone tell us why Massey hasn't been playing. Or is it double top secret? What a huge loss for Dayton.
  19. COOP, I know you have that button you could have pushed to get this stuff out of here earlier. What was the hold up. Next time we need better out of you. ;D ;D ;D
  20. Harrington versus Brown should make for a great matchup of young southeast texas pitchers. They have both shown that setx baseball will be in goods hands for the years to come. I say this one could go to extras and will come down to which team blinks first.
  21. MIF, It sounds like you are letting some people on here bother you a little. Don't. You guys on this site do a great job. You make informed judgements and that is all a person can ask.
  22. If this info is accurate I will have to take the Pirates in 10 innings 3-2. To much depth at pitching. They have shown an ability to start people you never expected and still come out on top. But Brown will be good enough to get it to extra innings 2-2.
  23. I would like to know who is pitching before I make my picks. Anybody have any idea.
  24. The big question is does Dayton pitch Dewey or do they save him for the show down with PNG. I say they don't throw him and still win. Because Nederland threw Helmke Tuesday night. This will set up a game with PNG for the district lead. Dayton 7 Nederland 3
