Some things to watch for the 2nd round:

Buna is starting to get hot. They will not go 4-3 the 2nd half.

Will Hardin pull their usual 2nd half meltdown?

Will Kountze be more consistent in the 2nd half?

Can Anahuac and Kirbyville stay the course? Can Anahuac get hot as they did the 2nd half last year.

Warren played alot of close games, they may play spoiler.

EC still has a long way to go to be competitive.

I definitely think Warren has underachieved. I think they are much better than their record indicates. I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat anyone besides Orangefield.

Understood. Not from there and not pulling for them. I believe them to be the best team in 3A (probably 4A also in the Region) since the beginning of the year. Never seen anything "classless" from their fanbase.

Guess you were wrong about that. Got their “beat down” this week as you call it…

If you were at the games this weekend and didn’t see anything classless then you yourself may be. There are no hard feelings from Orangefield from losing. CH is without a doubt the better team after watching the 2 games. If you need a description of classlessness, taunting the other team, mocking and degrading them, anything other than yelling to root for your team is uncalled for. Orangefield yelled all season FOR their kids, but never once yelled at opposing players. We have knocked other teams pitchers off them mound and we clapped them all the way to their dugout. Which is just decent and having good sportsmanship. CH would yell degrading things at the opposing pitchers as they were leaving the mound. This happened Thursday and today from CH spectators, from CH players and even some questionable things from the coaching staff. Winning with class would be kicking our butts, which they did, without taunting, mocking or anything else. That without a doubt did not happen. Regardless of what you have “seen” from them.

Hard to compare scores from some of those matchups… some could’ve been tournament play where a team runs out their 4th pitching option or vice versa

This is true. But you have to start somewhere for comparisons. Most of these common opponents were on the same weekend in the same tournament. OF was 4-0 out scoring opponents 34-5. While Central Heights was 2-2 out scoring opponents 13-11. Playing 3 like opponents in 4 games. I do agree that comparing opponents means next to nothing. Kids could be in basketball still, pitchers were different, etc. But like I said, it’s the only thing we have to go by until we see them on the field against each other Thursday night.

Seeing a few comments regarding players being ejected.

    Honest question !!!!!

Should an umpire allow a HS Athlete to direct profanity towards him?

IMO, it should not be tolerated at all.  HS students directing profane language towards an adult is unacceptable in my book.

I 100% agree! It’s a game, kids need to learn how to respect authority, last game of his life or not. Cuss your boss at work, you most likely aren’t getting a warning. This is on the parent of their kid gets ejected. I can assure you if I cuss an official, they wouldn’t have had to suspend me. My dad would have dragged me off by the ear and would not have allowed me to play the next game regardless. Life lessons are much bigger than a game.

I really think Orangefield is one of the better 3A teams in the state. Kountze is pretty young with a good sophomore class. The bobcats will make a run for the state title this year IMO

I agree. When they are clicking they are tough to beat.

Anyone that was at the game care to comment on the 4 balks?  That’s pretty rare this deep in the playoffs.

3 were called for not coming set. I wasn’t actually watching the pitcher on any of them. However I don’t know that I’ve ever seen so many called like that. Seemed odd. If he actually wasn’t coming set, none were deceiving runners or anything like that. The other was a lefty pick off to first. I’ve seen the same move a thousand times not called a balk. They also called an OF hitter for leaning into a pitch that was overturned by field umpires. Seemed like they were antsy to make calls that didn’t need to be made, but maybe could have been. The hit by pitch call should never have been made though. However OF had lots of opportunities to win the game and it just didn’t happen. Not blaming it on umpires, just venting.

  9. Having a pep rally after this is a JOKE. This is what is wrong with kids now days. My parents would have disciplined me and the coach I played for would have ran the ones of us who were still on the team until we puked. I can then promise you we would have thought twice before ever doing it again. This is what's wrong with kids today, having a pep rally when they do something wrong is moronic. Discipline them all and you won't have to worry about it ever happening again. I'm not blaming all this on either team, Silsbee and LCM should both handle their teams this way. Part of being a TEAM is everyone is responsible for anyone on the teams actions. Instead this is being handled as a poor me situation, and that is sad. Especially the adults on here defending the kids. AAW I appreciate your honesty and integrity and showing no bias here. If everyone acted like him in all places, the world wouldn't be in the shape it is right now. Race, where you are from, your family, nothing should change the way you feel about a situation like this. Like several people have said, nobody is saying he is a bad kid, but he has behaved badly on more than one occasion. Quit crying and take the punishment and move on. That is directed to the people on here crying, not the kid.

  10. Was not too far if the reports of 2 other instances are true. Anyone can make a bad decision once. However, you still have to deal with the punishment, but multiple occasions is a pattern. If you truly care about the young man like you claim you do, you wouldn't be worried about too much punishment. You would be glad it wasn't too little. Instead you are concerned with the rest of your teams season.

From a neutral stand point as far a Mackey is concerned......my kid did the same thing for much different reasons....for those reasons...it was a good move .......otherwise a big mistake. I know I'll get bashed for this but facts are facts.......academics are lacking and the competition just isn't there. Ultimately moved back to Silsbee her senior year. (and before any other dumb comments are made defending Evadale) 1) My kid is a DI honor student athlete (3 times state...two at Evadale one at Silsbee) 2) There are great people in Evadale, wouldn't change those friendships for anything. 3) Evadale (the district/the 2A class) has some athletes as good as anywhere in the state...just not near as many....as a competitor the better kids just aren't challenged every single play, every single week.

We did the whole get in the community thing...went to football games...blah blah blah....it just ain't the same...quite boring actually!

My Mackey opinion - He will be just fine, he will certainly enjoy being a HUGE fish in a TINY pond...He (and his parents) have their reasons and that's good enough. Wish him the best!

This post sums up exactly how I see it. I grew up in Evadale and went to school there, so no reason or me to bash it. The competition for the majority of the season just isn't the same as a bigger school. Basketball is a little different to a certain extent because you don't need as many kids to be at that level. However I don't believe you would ever see a 2A school amass talent like Silsbee currently has. With baseball, a small school can beat a big school on any given night with a pitcher that dominates. However, you will not see the pitching night in and night out that a district such as the Silsbee, WOS, BC district. Then Football is even harder because of the amount of kids required to play. First off most small school kids have to play both ways. That by itself is a huge hit to the level of play. Then as Craig said, there just aren't as many kids that play on a high level like bigger schools. With all that said, I believe he will be fine. He has already exposed himself to that level of competition in 4A and this will just be 1 year. I do not believe he will get better during games this year though. I do hope he pushes them over the top though. I have no idea how good they are as I do not follow them anymore. But adding a football state championship to go along with the basketball and baseball would be pretty cool.

Maybe when you say I "agree 100%" with the MN shooting, you need to choose your words more carefully.

Of course you did also say "not all the facts were out", I guess meaning that you weren't really 100% sure.... but then... "seems like the cop was the one wrong"

Yeah, I then had the audacity to ask you based on what. You know, facts? Like I said, the only fact we knew at the time is that the guy was dead and it was from an officer shooting him. Almost nothing else was known.

Now it at least appears that this had nothing to do with a taillight out but rather being a possible suspect in a recent (I believe just happened) armed robbery.

I guess that puts me on a high horse for wanting to see what we can prove and you I suppose, needing to choose your words better since it appears what you wrote was not what you meant.

All you need to read was seems like to see that I wasn't saying I knew what happened, which means may not be the case. Other than than that I have nothing to say to you. Your just looking for people to jump on.

Based on what? You have no facts at all other than the guy was shot.

    Speculation isn't a fact and the girlfriend's statement isn't a fact.

What happens when (assuming he had it) the officer's recording is made public? Let's play "what if". What if the officers said give me your driver's license and within a second opens fire with no other commands? Yeah, the officer probably overreacted. What if the officer says give me your license and sees the guy reaching toward the gun and the officer yells "Don't do that!". Then "Stop!! Stop NOW!!" and the guy keeps reaching and then the officer opens fire? What if the officer says give me your license and opens fire within a second but the guy lunged for his weapon?

Does the audio then completely change the scenario? Can the officer be totally wrong when seen one way and completely correct in another.... all changing only on the officer's words and actions? Can even the time frame look bad on the officer if the suspect lunged for a weapon when truthfully, the officer did say give me your license?

As you note, the facts are not out yet you 100% agree that the officer was wrong.

Jumping to conclusions on both sides is equally wrong.

Looks bad? Sure. Is bad? How do we know at this point?

You evidently misunderstood my post. I said seems like, meaning from what I had seen seemed that way. Also said not all facts are out, so jumping on me makes no sense. Like I said about both instances is facts either way could change how it seems. Get down off your high horse and read what I wrote.

Everybody experiences are different based mainly on race from MY EXPERIENCES! As I have said before, I have had two encounters where police have pulled out their guns on me. It is not a good feeling and something I think most won't forget.

What exactly was going on when this happened? Were you just sitting/standing there minding your own business and they just walked up and pointed a gun at you? I'm not insinuating you were doing anything wrong, just curious as to what the situation was. Like I've said I'm in no way saying bad things don't happen to people (regardless of race), but it doesn't happen nearly as often as people would like to believe. I also know there are racist cops out there that are out of control, but highly doubt it's a very large number.
