Crosby has beaten or would beat PNG, BH and GCM by at least 4tds but somehow PAM hasn’t beaten any of them by more than one score? PAM’s most impressive win to date is a 20 point win over 2nd place Lee who went 4-10 in our district last alignment. There’s no value in even talking about hypotheticals being in two different divisions but I do think this version of Crosby would beat the current version of PAM by 20+, something like 42-21. I think Hightower is going to beat Paetow and y’all will struggle with Paetow in bi-district. Everyone else in the district will probably lose by at least 20. Congrats to your team on a great season though. Manvel just beat #5 Foster worse than they did Crosby so I don’t think there’s any hope of getting past them but good luck on a deep playoff run too👍🏾

So PNG lost to Crosby by 40 after beating BU but BU would give Crosby trouble. I’m guessing matchups or improvement since the loss to Lee who had to opt up to y’all’s district to even make the playoffs?

As much as I want to call flat out bs on this post I will say that the 24-0 game with Dayton has been our closest so far in district play. Probably would’ve been even closer had he stayed. I still think PAM is the only team that could’ve made the playoffs in 12-5A-D2 from your district though.
-
Do you make that same argument in basketball? Crosby would probably beat United by the same 40 we just beat PNG by in football. Crosby is/will be very good in basketball this year because of our talent level relative to the classification, we’ll still get mauled by United though. In football BU has the same raw talent level as FB Marshall, why do you need baby steps there?
-
Lee was 4-10 in our district during the last alignment. They went 2-5 both years. Even with a lot of improvement they would’ve been 4-3 and finished 5th this year. You’ll see what I’m saying when y’all line up with 10-5A

Alright, but you’re making a huge assumption that we beat Santa Fe. -
Smh, Beaumont United is such an enigma. Congrats to those kids at Lee, who knew moving up a division would increase their playoff prospects? Maybe the GCCISD administration did?

Can’t say I’m surprised by this one even though I figured BH would win by double digits. I still think BH is the second best team in the district but like Parcells used to say, “You are what your record says you are.” BH was at home with everything on the line from home field advantage in bi-district to a possible share of the DC if Crosby lost to Ned and they produce another stale one? Looks like Crosby and Ned control their own destinies and BH becomes Crosby’s biggest fan. -
As much as I would’ve loved Crosby to hold PNG under the 7.5ppg we were giving up since the start of district play, PNG did actually score another td albeit against mostly twos. Does someone mind changing the score to 54-14? Crosby only won by 40, not 47. Plus that receiver needs credit for his td, kid was one of the few PNG players I can point out that I would say played hard all night.
-
Well, they were down 40 to the boys so Coach P has put the girls in.
-
I mean, the score is what it is but Crosby still needs to play better on the offensive side of the ball. I will say it is very nice to see this type of team performance despite not being as sharp as we should.
-
Lol, last year was the least regular season wins Crosby has had in a season since 2010 and you still didn’t win. That’s after going to double OT because our coach didn’t kneel the ball in regulation and end the game. Unless the qb tears his ACL or you have another Deshawn Washington y’all lose to Crosby every time. Don’t worry though, we’re waiting outside the room while BH takes their turn this week.
-
If Crosby receivers would’ve just caught the open passes they dropped against BH they would’ve scored at least 14 more points. It was a good win but still somewhat disappointing to see that many plays and points left on the field.
-
I’m sure I haven’t seen as much Nederland football as you but I would think those teams from ‘11-‘14 were their “above average” teams? Talent doesn’t always dictate victory margins or even wins for that matter but this is definitely the widest talent gap I’ve seen between Crosby and the mid-county schools. If your current team is what you’re calling above average now, I suspect you’re just waiting to drop down to 4A. I’ve said it on here for a while but I think you’re starting to see stagnant enrollments like PNG and Ned have a harder go of it than growing schools like Crosby and BH, that’s all thing being relatively equal of course.
-
I think if you’re a Crosby fan this is the type spread you want to see against this version of PNG. Anything closer than three tds and you probably start to feel less confident about the looming 2nd round matchup with what will most likely be an 11-0 Texas High.
-
That means PNG would finish in 3rd and draw Willowridge, who’s more than capable of putting 50 on the Indians, in the first round. We had to put 70 on them to hold them off last year and I think our defense was better than PNG’s is this year. I want to say the their qb threw for almost 500 yards on us.
-
PNG has given up right at 45ppg over their last couple and Crosby is giving up 7.5ppg since the start of district play. PNG allowed BH’s qb to rush and throw for over 200 yards so unless he gets hurt I’m not really seeing how they have an answer for Branch who’s probably going to be the district’s offensive player of the year? I don’t think Crosby will have an issue scoring 50 on PNG if need be but I’m hoping the defense continues to play well enough that Crosby doesn’t have to go past the qb draw/50-50 ball portion of the playbook.
-
Like I said last week, kind of expected a little more from the district? I hope we’re just THAT good? I don’t expect PNG to provide much resistance next week either.
-
I don’t think this region is going to be very competitive this year? FB Marshall just allowed their first points of the year last week to Austin and hold a 322-6 scoring advantage over their six opponents to date. Their starters haven’t even played into the second half after the first game of the season against Elkins. I think they’re the best 5A team in Houston and that’s saying a lot considering I believe the Foster vs Manvel regional final winner will play Denton Ryan for the state title in D1. I don’t think A&M Con. is as good as some of their teams the past couple of years but the way Huntsville mauled them was still pretty impressive. They remind me a lot of the Ennis team that beat Cedar Park for the title in ‘14. They’re probably the most physically imposing 5A team in the region besides Foster.

Just some “All-Star” break observations: 1. Crosby looks to be back on track under coach Prieto. We still have a lot of deficiencies but coach is proving that if given the players he can mitigate some of them as a good coach should. 2. BH is starting to look the part annually. I think they’re the small 5A version of Deer Park with a little Cy-Fair mixed in. With the way Mont Belvieu is growing BH is in a very good place to continue their upward trajectory. When the school board pays the head coach $160k you would think you may want that trajectory to be slightly more vertical? 3. Mid-county is in the middle of the district. They went 0-4 against 1942 last year and may do so again this year? This may become a theme(🤞🏾) if they don’t produce more kids like RJ and Deshawn Washington, I mean even your Rose and Seay type kids are becoming more sparse. 4. If far away is a couple of years then Dayton may still be around the corner from that. Dayton is probably close to an HISD level participation rate? BH did it with money, Crosby did it with a search committee, Dayton did it at the sale barn. I think you see where a handshake hire like Nations may have a multi-year impact. 5. Really expected the district to be better this year. Thought we would get a little more from KP and Texas City? Still in good shape to get three teams through to the bi-district round though.
-
As long as PAM stays in first place I think they’re the only team that has a chance to advance past the first round with a potential bi-district victory against Katy Paetow. Looks like Angleton has had some corona issue? Of the times we’ve played Manvel, this was definitely their best team this year. We missed the 2017 state championship team because of Harvey. I think Manvel is going to beat Foster this week and play them again for the regional final. I follow the Mo City area a lot because of some buddies that live there and this is probably Hightower’s best team in a while too. Unreal the draw 9-5A-D1 gets bi-district for the next couple of years. Still a lot of fun to have in the regular season though.
-
I figured since the four playoff teams have “should win” games this week we can review this preseason thread. Swap BH and PNG it looks right. Long as BH handles their business the rest of the year that game between KP and Ned should be a play in. One thing I did miss on was Dayton. They’re going to be able to see them all for the third year in a row. Hopefully the participation level goes up for coach Ware in the coming seasons.

Barbers Hill 54 Port Neches-Groves 28/FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I know it’s due to our schedules but I was just looking at the standings in 11-5A-D2 to start gauging potential playoff matchups and saw that with BH’s win over PNG, 12-5A-D2 only has one team above .500 after six games. Could’ve won a lot of money in Lake Charles on that one. I mean, BH, Crosby, PNG and Ned will be the playoff teams again and for probably the next few years but I’m not sure the 3-1 that looked like such a given when Manvel left the district is so sure now? We have some teams in this district that aren’t even getting us prepared for the first round. -
Baytown Goose Creek Memorial 15 Baytown Sterling 14/FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Yes on your first question. If you opened up Drew High School again you would split the current Crosby High into a 4-D2 and a 4A-D1 that may still be able to beat all the Baytown schools. None of the people really moved out in Barrett Station, more just moved in. My Latino invasion comment was because some on this board feel that’s why certain programs may be struggling currently.
