Memorial only had 1 starter there.  The rest was ay 7 on 7 and at AAU tournaments. Memorial program is getting better everyday. The kids are really working hard to get better.
Yep, been watching Dorian Chapman all summer. He's getting stronger and playing against some of the best players in the country. PA Memorial will be tough.
Dove,
Can Chapman continue to improve if he stays in the Golden Triangle or should his family be looking at schools in Vegas or Virginia?

If you are a good coach, to become a great coach you are supposed to coach at the players ability.  As a coach you should know how to adjust your game plan to fit your players style.  In high school you can adjust your game plan because players change often.  But in college and pros, you recruit or draft players that fit your style of play.
If you have a good enough Communications Program then you don't ever have to change the way you coach.
  3. I agree with an earlier post that this looks and sounds like a witch hunt.  It's not like Central or Ozen are blatantly breaking the spirit and intent of the rules like Yates does with it's basketball/communications program.  ;)

These coaches, and especially the kids, don't deserve this kind of negative publicity.  Mr. Jordan's publication reminds me of a tabloid magazine found in the checkout line.  Kudos to these coaches for getting these boys to a workout to get better and not allowing them to get in trouble running the streets.  As a society, we are going to make it where everybody is afraid to help someone in fear of this kind of crap.

Shorter drive to Baton Rouge than to College Station or Austin.

Johnny Jones played on a final 4 team at LSU in '81 and asst coached on another final 4 team there in '86.  He has brought some energy back into the program and people are starting to get excited about basketball again.  They have a great legacy, but frankly have been pretty bad in recent years.  Recruiting will fix that, and so far it looks like Jones may be the guy to get them back on the right track  again.  And he's from just down the road in Deridder.
College Station and Baton Rouge the same drive in Time(3 hrs) and BR is about 30 miles further.  Austin is further than both and those people are just plain weird, and proud of it.

It is not a rumor. Montana reported it in a story I did on him as athlete of the year at The Leader. He will walk on and after talking to him, the chip on his shoulder is huge. A motivated Montana Q is pretty darn scary.
Yes it is... and when get gets in the program he will be able to get even stronger and faster... I look at him as a Dat Ngyuen or a Bill Bates... those two names right there are the type of person MQ looks like on the field and is off the field... no drama just business... all 3 of them have that... "Oh yeah... well tighten up that chin strap ole boy because I'm fixing to ring your bell" attitude.. hahahah
Another player that comes to mind when watching MQ is Zach Thomas.  It will be interesting to see how big MQ can get in a college program.  He can flat out play football and coaches will figure out where to best use him.  Good luck.

My fav Dayton D unit was 2007 in the Golden Triangle dist.only gave up 28 pts.shutting out Ozen-Vidor-Central-Ned,7 pts to Png,8 pts to Lumb,13 pts to Lcm.That's salty D right there.Next up in bi dist 7 pts to Crosby-10 pts to Tx City-Shut out Livingston in the 3rd round. That's allowing 45 pts.in 10 straight games.Close win over Waller in the 4th rd.Then losing to Lake Travis in the semi's.
That Dayton D was really good in 07.  I remember telling someone in the stands against them that year that they were the best tackling team I had ever seen.  If they got a hand on you, you were on the ground.  How many games do you witness where there is not a single missed tackle?

The 15 year old Nederland Babe Ruth All-Stars will be playing in Wharton July 5-7.  The team consists of players from Nederland, PNG, LCM and Bridge City.  Can't wait to see these boys play their game and come home as the East Texas State Champions!  The team includes:  Lane Ashworth (BC), Tice Campbell (NED), Justin Carr (NED), Tanner Doiron (PNG), Brock Fenn (NED), Cole Girouard (PNG), Colton Hicks (PNG), Kody Kolb (NED), Mitchell Lee (LCM), Jerry Molley (NED), Adam Morse (PNG), Parker Shults (PNG), Drake Trawhon (LCM), and Chase Warren (PNG).  Good luck to these boys!

Looks like a good team to represent this area.  Who is the Head coach and assistant?

I thought shugart was sitting out of 7 on 7 because he had hurt his leg or ankle. Maybe got people thinking and talking since he wasn't participating.
LOL!!! He didn't participate but for only a few series in 7 on 7 because it's BASEBALL season!!
When is baseball season anyway?  When does it start and end?  I wasn't aware that there was actually a "season" for any sports anymore.  Aren't baseball and basketball year round now?

  12. I like to see 'no calls' on layups where the player driving is obviously just trying to get to the free throw line.  But a 3 pt shot, Green's being blocked by Bosh last night, where there is plenty of body contact should not have been a 'no call', IMO.

Bridge City beat Shepherd and the Kolek brothers in the 1st round of the playoffs this year.  With 2 pitchers throwing 94mph+ it's hard to believe Shepherd could only manage to get 3rd in district and barely sneak into the playoffs.
The younger brother pitched against BC.  The older one was injured.
What kind of injury?  Arm-related?  That is a lot of force on a young shoulder.  Wow!

Both schools will have enrollments running neck and neck.  Why should SC go and not Humble.  Atascocita HS has 3,210 in 5A.  Many 5A schools will have 1,000 to 1,500 more kids than SC and Humble.  Expect Humble's numbers to increase as kids make their way back to Humble now that Humble has resolved it's rating issue.
Eventually we will be 5a (6a).  However that day is at least 2 to 3 alignments away.

Humble does not have the growth rate potential that SC does, the majority of our growth will come with a rezone.    Like i have said dozens of times, Summer Creek will be one of the largest if not the largest HS in Humble ISD in the future.  Humble will only  start to get close to reaching the 2600 capacity when SC gives back the HMS neighborhoods.  when they discussed this the past year, The district estimated that 125 kids would be effected at the freshman class move to HHS.  With the incoming freshman class(@HHS) estimated at around 425-445, it would take us roughly 5 years to get to a 2000+ enrollment on that alone.  Plus the slow growth of new neighborhoods (rustic Pines, Townsen Landing, Atascocita Heights, BlackStone Creek) about 3-4 years before we reach around 2200.      At that point we will be on the line (depending on how the 6a numbers are established.  Projections say enrollments as low as 2020+ will be 6a)

Int he same time period, SC is expect to nearly double in size.  Just last week KB homes bought a tract of land they will put 2000 homes off West lake houston parkway.

SC will go on before we will return back to 5a.  We still have some growing to do....lol.  By the way, our enrollments WILL never be neck and neck unless they add additional class room space and redraw EVERY high school south of the rivers lines.    They could make 3 equally sized 5a schools...but they never will.
We'll see.  I gotta see how many from the middle school actually attend SC.  I believe there will be some going to Atascocita even though they're zoned form SC.  Also, just not seeing where all the explosive growth will come from unless those new homes get filled up with near-high school aged kids.  Humble really isn't that big of an area ...and we have THREE high schools.

Lets close down Humble HS ...send them to SC ...we'll own any district you put in.
The growth will come from everyone wanting to join the Greatest Show on Turf.  ;D  Yeah, have fun with that.
  15. Who was it that said the West should not try to run on the East?  Give a lot of credit to the play caller for the West.  Some players that stood out were Montana Q, Koby Couron, Jakobi Jones, Glen Roberts, and a couple players who were not listed on the rosters but kept getting their names called.  Some big hits and a lot of good football being played.  Congratulations to the players on both teams.

We are 74 days away from the start of the Texas High School Football Season and today is....

        Eat Your Vegetables Day
Remember how your parents used to tell you to eat your vegetables? They were right: vegetables are essential for living a long, healthy life, and they are also delicious! This makes Eat Your Vegetables Day a terrific reason to celebrate.
In elementary school, we couldn't leave the table until we ate everything, including the vegetables.  Thank God for pant pockets.  :)

I consider myself more of a baseball guy and even I think this is a ridiculous post.  If you don't think baseball is or can be year-round, you are mistaken.  The only thing that keeps baseball from being played year-round is the weather.

Finally, if the reason to support your kids in playing sports is for scholarship opportunities or to have their college education paid for, save your money on any year-round sports and set up a college fund.  Do the math, a college basketball team may have 15 players and a college baseball team may have around 30 to 40.  Both of those sports have about 12 scholarships per team to distribute.  In the case of baseball, those 12 scholarships are often divided between 20-30 players.  Factor in the odds of getting a scholarship to play sports with distribution and your logic completely falls apart.
Can you give us a short list, say 3 or 4 schools
(colleges/universities) that carry 30 or 40 players on their
baseball teams?  Me thinks that is an exaggeration, Sir. ::)
He said 20-30 in one spot and 30-40 in another.  It sure does look like 40 or more when they are shaking hands after a game.  Maybe a lot of them are just bat boys are something.

Let's see.  Lumberton was one game from making the playoffs this year (prob much better than most predicted), and the coach gets fired?  He has also done a good job building the under levels of the basketball program.  Coach Wueller has put them in contention to be playoff contenders for the foreseeable future, and he is replaced by a girl's coach with no experience on the boy's side?  Sounds like a good 'ole boy network hire to me.  I hope the AD will hold himself to the same standard that he has Coach Wueller.
Lumberton has been to the playoffs ONCE in 44 seasons...ONE TIME! ANYTHING that the AD does would be an improvement. Perhaps they NEED someone in there that knows the community, and will attract more players..Wueller, I am sure, did all he could do, but if you can't make the playoffs with FOUR teams going...At least ONCE....It may be time for a change.
I beg to differ with your statement.  Have seen multiple instances where the AD brings in someone with a football background to coach basketball (not saying this is the case in this instance) and that never works.
Nash,
Do you agree with the rest of DV's logic?

    DV,
When was it that Lumberton went to the playoffs?  Do we know who the coach was during that time and were there any notable players during that coach's time at the school?
NO, there are a myriad of other variables to consider.  If you use DVs criteria and you are the AD at Bridge City, you have to replace the coach every year.  If the coach is improving the program on a gradual basis, why should you take the risk that his successor wont be able to do that?
How many years had Weller been with Lumberton and what was his record each year?  I'm guessing by your post that it would show a progressive improvement over the years that he was there.  Do you know the records?
