  1. Will play Waco Midway either Monday or Tuesday. Not sure where or what time yet.
  2. Lumberton senior Taylor Granato (District 37 MVP) 32 goals Lumberton Junior Scott Poole 18 goals 19 assists
  3. I hope that you ar enot implying that Hopson didnt let girls play both. I know for a fact that he spoke to several girls and he made it clear that he had to at least see them during tryouts to evaluate them and let them know what they would need to work on for the soccer season. It is unfortunate that the two seasons overlap and it doesnt help matters that we dont have a large number of kids who come out. It is a fight that ends with no winners. The main problem with players coming over is that they are so far behind where the "team" is. Their chemistry has pretty much been established by the end of basketball so it is pretty hard to break into the rotation. It is also tough to see someone come from one sport and take the spot of spomeone who has been there all year. Not saying it cant or wont happen, it just makes it tough.
  4. Coach Hopson is in charge of getting the meeting together and since his season is not over his focus is still on the playoffs. Our boys district were all eliminated from the playoffs which is why we were able to get together and vote. Im sure the girls wil hold their meeting shortly.

  6. Ok let me jump on this for a second , I have kids on my team like Scott Poole who play for the Dallas Texans Houston Division Red 92 (one of the best in the country) and i have some that because of football or travel or wahtever the reason cant find the time to make it to houston for practices/games or for that matter even play club soccer Does that mean they are not on the same level as players that do? I believe the answer is a yes and a no. Yes, maybe becasue they dont get the practice and game time against some of the best players in the state or get to play soccer year round but i believe the answer is No also. No because some of the kids i have coached / played with in the past have just had pure god given ability and given the chance could and would be able to play at that level. So i am sorry but i for one will have to disagree with your statement that just because a kid doesnt play d1 or Super 2 means they are not on that level of play.
  7. Man what a game! Let me first just say what a talented and outstanding team that Brenham has. I can see why the adavnce as far as they do every year. Well coached, classy and very disciplined! Good Luck to them in the Playoffs. We played them as hard as we could and gave them everything we could have given. Mark had a beautiful goal in the games opening minutes and we survived some amazing shots by brenham until they finally tied the game up right before half. It truely was great to see our kids flying to the ball and competing on that level with a team like Brenham. They had way more opportunities than we did but we managed to have the ball bounce our way until a beautiful cross was played into the net by one of their All-State players. I would like to recognize the defensive play of #6 jesse Sparks for the job he did on their left forward. he got off some shots but Jesse hounded him all night and played brilliantly against him not allowing him to really get open looks at the goal. Our effort was their and you could see just how bad the Raiders wanted to win, we just unfortunatley didnt end the night with a win. Grats to our team and to our seniors for adding to our district winning streak , which no thanks to spring break and the Vidor pirates ened after 36 staright district victories. Grats on a terrific year and our 3rd district championship and THANKS tou our 5 seniors for all their hard work, effort, dedication and leadership! Thanks Hanna, Montes, Murrill, Duhon and Granato!!!!
  8. Ahhh, Maturity.....a thing of the past. No wonder kids act the way they do today.
  9. First of all Central did not beat us in football this year so there is no "getting even" with anyone if that is what you imply. Maybe 14 goals was too many, or maybe even worse was the fact that on several occasions lumberton had the ball within 2 feet of the goal and dribbles away from the goal because they do have class and character. They were doing what they were told and were not trying to score at every turn. Should a coach take a risk at playing keep away for more than 20 minutes (I assure you there was at least 15-20 minutes where Central did not possess the ball) to where a central player gets frustrated and tries to foul hard. I dont hink so and as mentioned earlier this game could have yielded way more goals than 14. WAY MORE! Second Friendswood fan, are you saying that your own coach and the coaches that dogbone mentioned are worthless and are also poor sportsman? Just curious as sometimes people turn a blind eye towards their own programs. Lumberton is a solid team, as is Friendswood, but reputations are simply that... reputations. We at Lumberton are living proof that reputations dont mean jack when it all boils down to the game. Yes we may lose games here and there, playoffs, district games and maybe even tournaments but one thing is for sure, our kids, nay our community has kicked our reputation of being a weak sister in many of our athletic endeavours. Football has won back to back district titles (the only 2 in school history), our boys and girls teams in soccer have won many titles themselves (boys have won 11 district titles) all because we really dont care that people like you get on these forums and say that we are going to lose simply because you have a history of success. We are not where we would like to be but we are definately headed in the right direction. If you look back im sure that even your beloved and cherrished Friendswood was not GREAT all the time. Its sad that you get on these forums and bad mouth kids and these programs to get whatever fulfillment youre after. Do you realize that it is you who is showing bad sportsmanship? Funny becasue that is the very thing you acuse the Lumberton coach of having. And before you get to say that you never say bad things about high school kids, let me remind you that you called our girls "slow-footed and stout". What exactly do you mean stout? By definition it means thicker and heavier than an average person of the same height. Are you calling them fat or heavy, or solid, or plump, or chubby etc.... "Slow-footed and stout players"? Seriously are you gonna talk about high school kids like that. This coming from a man, im sure by the way he talks, is the world record holder in 100 yard dash. Friendswood has a great program no one contests that. I am a big fan of school spirit but you seem to go a little too far. "Talent is God-given; be humble. Fame is man-given; be thankful. Conceit is self-given; be careful." John Wooden
  10. Pulling for the boys in black and gold. Good luck
  11. Central played good ball, keeper made the stops he had to make. We had several shots that went off the bar and a few that just barely missed. Central played us harder than they did earlier in the season. The playoffs do that to some teams. They play harder because its win or go home. 1st or 4th place obviously didnt mean anything to the kids last night. It was 2 teams who wanted to stay alive in the playoffs thats all.
  12. Ok now this is ridiculous that you guys start bashing a coach for things that your own programs have done. Coach Hopson could have run the score if he wished, but instead told his ladies to pass the ball around. When the Lady Jaguars were just standing around what then should he have told his girls to do then?...sit down on the ground and pick grass, or maybe better yet play with less than 11 girls or just what???? Its not like his scorers were the ones doing all the scoring and they weren't just firing shots at the keeper. They played keep away. :-\ To Friendswood fan..maybe your girls didnt score 14 goals but i do notice where you beat Lamarque 9-0 and Manvel 9-0 and dawson 9-0 and several other teams 7-0. Do you consider that running up the score? This game was completely one sided with all the Lumberton girls playing and several different girls scoring goals. As a coach do you tell your kids that dont get the opportunity to score much that they cant go in and try to score if given the chance? Is that then to the players that are getting to play? We can argue about how many goals are too many all night but Jason Hopson is as classy as they come. He is a good person and is doing a hell of a job with his program. I am sorry but I didnt get the football mentality that shark posted and I am a football coach too?
  13. Taylor was selected as the Wendy's Athlete of the week. [Hidden Content] Hopefully i did the link correct

  17. District Champions : Lumberton Raiders 8-1-1 (26pts) Runner-Up : Vidor Pirates 8-2 (24pts) Third Place: Livingston Lions 7-3 (21 pts) Fourth Place: Silsbee Tigers 3-6-1 (10pts) 5. Jasper 2-6-2 (9pts) 6. HJ 0-10 (0pts) Playoff Opponents: Lumberton vs. Central Vidor vs. LCM Livingston vs. PNG Silsbee vs. Nederland
  18. Was at the Lumberton/PNG game and in my opinion Lumberton girls did in fact have several close opportunities. PNGs keeper is very talented and had several great saves, and from much closer than 30-35 yards. The only goal was scored very late in the game. Both teams had opportunites and unfortunately PNG capitalized. It was a good win for a very good PNG team. But please do not get on these boards and make it appear that PNG could have won 5-0. That is ubsurd. These are with out a doubt 2 of the best teams in our neck of the woods.
  19. good year for lumberton soccer (boys and girls district championships )
