I will...I'll message a player who competed in the game and Coach Hand who was the Huntington coach and get clarification.

You better believe this site would have blistered the Woodville coach and rightfully so. The Huntington team was comprised of Sophomores that were not in the same class as Woodville. Huntington spread the floor and held the ball Woodville chose not to come out and force the action. Big Mistake but completely different strategy.
How is it a different strategy...Huntington smoked them the 2nd round of district that year when Woodville did decide to force the action. So, I think the Woodville coach knew what was up and he decided to give his guys a chance to win in that first game.

Who That...the only thing EMBARRASING is how you spelled "Inbarasing"

TheDream34 forcing a team into a game of chase is a strategy as well. Yes it can be an aggravating one for the team chasing, but it's a strategy none the less and within the rules. If people don't like it then maybe they should avoid high school basketball games. Well at least ones where a team is trying to give themselves a chance to compete against a stronger opponent.
And my question for the haters, would you be mad if your team used the same strategy or would you talk your coach up like he is a genius?

What did Coach Mitchell do that was so bad? His players were playing within the rules of the game. Are there people on here that are jealous they didn't think of the strategy first? Any good coach, which Coach Mitchell is an excellent coach is going to do what gives their team the best chance to be successful. So, why is everyone faulting him for doing what he felt would give his team a chance to win the game?
In the early 2000's Huntington boys and Woodville boys played to a 5-3 final, because Woodville sat in a zone and Huntington held the ball waiting for them to come out and play man. I wonder if people would of blasted the Woodville coach for sitting in a zone if this site had existed back then? He did what he thought would give his team a chance to win. The next time they played that season Huntington won by double digits.
What Coach Mitchell was doing has the same concept as what Woodville did many years ago. If you don't like the strategies he uses then go get a teaching and coaching job and lets see what you do strategy wise when you play a team like Silsbee.
I give many kudos to Coach Mitchell for his strategy against Silsbee and what he has accomplished so far at Lumberton in his time there. His teams will continue to to be competitive and give people fits.

I was told that person got turned down, though. He is a great coach and great with kids.
DM me Rupert3 if you want to know more about him.

I'd hope that Huntington can beat 2A schools. Especially ones that are not that strong this year. They will come back to reality next week when Hemphill lays the smack down on them.
-
I agree that it is important to get that game time experience. And it is nice to play someone other than yourselves as you do in practice.
Now Sabine Pass is going to keep getting a bad rep in my opinion. I noticed you bolded the word before, so I wonder what their reason was for canceling? Was it still Hurricane Laura? But, I don't know why anyone would schedule their football team after what they did a couple of seasons ago, when they canceled their season mid-season and then backed out of their district for the following year and left all those teams scrambling to try and find a replacement game.

Why is Colmesneil playing a JV team, even if it is a 3A JV team? It's a no win situation for Colmesneil. They beat the JV team (which I see they did) and people will say, "they should beat them because it's their Varsity playing a JV team." If they had lost, it would've been, "you guys just lost to a JV team." I'm going to guess it was the only opponent they could find. But, in my opinion it just is never a good idea to have your Varsity team (no matter what classification) play a JV team (also no matter what classification).
-
What is Colmesneil's non-district schedule looking like? Will anyone schedule them for fear of having the return game cancelled the following year? You reap what you sow if they are having trouble finding opponenets.

Hi, are there any 15u AAU teams in the Beaumont/Lufkin area? I have a couple of boys who are interested in playing this summer and raising their level. If you know of any please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I'm looking for any Boys 15U or 16U travel basketball teams in either the Beaumont or Lufkin Area. I'm also looking for any Girls 7u or 8u travel basketball teams in the same areas. Please private message me if you have any information on any. Thank you!

Longball24, based on your evaluation of the current 8th grade class. it looks like the current regime of coaches is looking to retard the upcoming freshman class's abilities by playing down next year in football. If they were wanting to develop them into the next great class, they would not be backing out of games in the middle of an alignment.
As for the current 8th graders running circles around the current upperclassmen, I don't think that will be hard in football and basketball. They still have some quality upperclassmen in baseball. But, based on their record in football there is not much to work with currently in the high school and in basketball, if they do not get the senior kid from Woodville, they are a mediocre basketball team at best this year. So, it will not take much to be one of the better football or basketball players for Colmesneil.
But how long will the current AD get to leave his mark on the program?

What does Winter Break and Spring Break have to do with football season? The only one of those things you mentioned that may interfere is the Tyler County Fair. So, scheduling tough 2A schools is not exposing the parents, it is putting the kids in a position that they are not going to be successful or have a chance to. The scheduling had nothing to do with exposing parents and their commitment. Now the new guy is trying to find some "sisters of the poor" schools they can beat, so he can say look at the "improvement" we made from last year, now we are 4-6 instead of 1-9. It is to make himself look better and to give the facade of they are getting better, when in reality they are still a very weak football program. Their last best run for the foreseeable future was when Fancy Johnson was at the helm. That team was legit.

Just 2 weeks ago, Colmesneil fans were extremely upset about Evadale putting 83 points on them. Colmesneil fans said that was unsportsmanlike. But, I am going to assume it is all good that they put 74 points on a depleted Burkeville team, that if I am not mistaken only had 12 players suited up. It's not the players fault for doing as they are instructed to do. But, just like the Colmesneil fans felt that the Evadale coaching staff could of kept their team from running the score up, the Colmesneil coaching staff could of done the same.
Way to stay classy Colmesneil.

Colmesneil and Tenaha will square off tonight in San Augustine to see who gets to move onto the next round. Colmesneil comes in with a record of 3-7 overall and 2-3 in District play and are the 4th place team out of their district, while Tenaha comes in with a 5-5 record overall and are District Champs with a 5-0 district record.
Just based on tradition alone I see Tenaha running away with this game. Even though Tenaha may not be as good as they were last year, they still have speed and they are clicking at the right time. Colmesneil does not have the speed to keep up with Tenaha in my opinion.
So, I am taking Tenaha by however many they want to win by. I see the Colmesneil coaching staff requesting a running clock to help stop the bleeding by halftime if not sooner. It will be a short stay in the play-offs for the Bulldogs of Colmesneil.

Who does everyone got in this one? Whichever team wins will be going to the play-offs!! So, I would expect both teams to put up a huge fight as their season is on the line. I feel that Burkeville is much improved from last year and Colmesneil is about the same as they were last year.
I don't think this game will be a blowout by either team, but I feel Burkeville will come out with the victory and head to the playoffs as the 4th seed out of their district. Burkeville by 10.

Colmesneil travels to Evadale to take on the Rebels in a district match-up. Both teams come in off losing their district openers last week. Evadale is always tough at home. I don't see the Rebels dropping this game. I think the Rebels win this game by 21+. Who do you got?
-
The opening district game for both of these teams. Normangee comes in with a record of 3-2 and on a 3 game win streak and Colmesneil comes in at 1-4 after beating a very weak Hull-Daisetta team in their last game.
Normangee will travel to Taylor Field and take on the Bulldogs of Colmesneil. This will be a tough start to district play for Colmesneil as I believe they come back to reality and Normangee runs away with this game by at least 28+

Who do y'all got in this one? Hull-Daisetta has had Colmesneil's number the last few seasons, does it change this year? It seems that both teams are struggling and maybe one of these teams gets on the right track heading into district play.
I'm going with Hull-Daisetta since they seem to have the Bulldog's number.

This week the Bulldogs of Colmesneil travel to take on the Shelbyville Dragons. Who do you got?
I definitely do not see Colmesneil coming away with a victory in this one. Shelbyville is one of the best teams in the region. They are a ground and pound it team and will physically wear down their opponent with the nasty Slot T. Shelbyville also has one of the best running backs in the region too.
Last year, Shelbyville was up 40-0 at half and Coach Trotter wanted to go to a running clock for the 2nd half, so the final was 46-0.
I see this one getting out of hand quickly and not being very pretty. I am picking Shelbyville by at least 42. The score deficit will be dependent on if Colmesneil requests to go to a running clock again. Some people on another message board suggest the game have a running clock as soon as the opening kick-off.
But, you never know what can happen, maybe Colmesneil plays the game of their lives and Shelbyville gets caught looking ahead (I don't see that happening with their coach though, he won't let that happen). That is why you play the game and don't go off paper.
-
Colmesneil has 2 former players currently playing college football. Cody Walsh is a LB at Wayland Baptist and Matt Bailey is a QB at East Texas Baptist. Both are Class of 2014 and were part of the 10-2 Bi-District Championship Team from 2013.
-
Who do you got in a battle of 0-2 teams? Groveton is coming off a thrashing from Corrigan 74-33 and Colmesneil got taken to the woodshed by West Hardin 54-18. It seems that neither team's defense is able to slow anyone down. Granted Groveton was playing a very talented and strong Corrigan team, they did manage to put up 33 points on them to show some offensive life. Colmesneil has struggled to put points on the board.
I do not see Colmesneil changing the trend here, I got Groveton leaving Taylor Field with a win by at least 21 points.

Huntington won the 2nd game by 20+...straight from a player who competed in that game
