1. If i am not mistaking, Ozen and Central were 1 and 1 vs each other last season.  IMO, Ozen will have a much improved team this year and Central will pretty much have the same team as last year. I think Ozen has a real good chance to win both games this seaon. The good news for both teams is that most likely both teams will either finish first or second, so in the playoffs they want have to face each other until very late in there playoff run.

All the schools mentioned will do fine. They will all have winning records. They will all make playoffs. The real question is, do these teams have what it take to make it to regionals and be successful???
Agree. Not sure how stacked the region is this year, but I would guess that it's not too stacked to where one of these teams makes the Regional Tourney. Will any of them advance and go to state? Depends on the matchups in the playoffs. We don't know who each team will face in the post season. The post season is too far away, and there is too many 'unknowns' out there to discuss who will make it to state from this region. This thread is mainly for bragging purposes.

It will be another close race to see who wins the district title. I don't think there is much question of the top three teams. Is there any other teams in the district who may make some noise?
I think it could be a battle for the 4th spot between LCM,Lumberton and Vidor.  I think Lumberton will end up with the final spot in the playoffs.
  3. This is the first i've heard of Wileridge leaving... I am guessing he's going to a big private school like Oak Hill Acedemy? Is this True? If so, good for him.  I think that's the same road Steven Jackson (PA) took and it worked out pretty well for him.  There's not doubt Central will be a different team without Wileridge and it would bring Nederland and Ozen in the mix to compete for district.... Only time will tell.

Nederland played well, that group of kids as well as other kids from other programs (school teams) have an advantage over upstart programs with kids thay just started playing together. Not taking anything away from any of those School Teams, but let's state the obvious before we start applauding. I love the fact that those kids would rather play together instead of everyone choosing to run and load up a Houston Team. With that being said, let's judge these Teams for what they are. They should win most of their summer games if they have been playing together since they were 8-9 yrs old.

Big Cam you make a good point. Playing together for a long time does have its advantages but let's face it, you still have to put the ball in the basket. The fact is, they have some boys who can play.

HJ always puts on a great tournament. Beaumont Trail Blazers played both HJ & Kountze very well. Had a chance to win both games. The big guard for HJ is the truth, the kid scores at will. Kountze is a very balanced & athletic Team. We really enjoyed the competition. Good luck to both programs.

Did Nederland have a team in the tournment?
Ned entered a JV team, and they won all 3 games they played. The team was comprised of mostly Freshmen kids who will be Sophs next year.
Make I make a suggestion?  Let your 2016 class play varsity  ;D

Becarefull for what you ask for!!!!!! That just might happen...  ;D  ;D

  7. My thought is that you bring up the underclassmen to give him experience on the varsity level. Part of that decision is based on what your group of juniors look like also.  If your team is going to be Junior loaded the following year, then it would be nice to have a year of varsity experience under your belt.  I think if you have a underclass that can bring the same or equal to what a senior that would be a sub you go with the underclassmen to build for the future. I think playing time has little effect on what gets them ready for the next year.  I think its more of the level of competition that gets you ready, not quantity but quality.

Didn't know Lamar was looking at him. Hope he finds a good 'fit'.
hMMM? You stated:  "Which seniors do we project will sign with someone? Any predictions?"
Oh, gotcha. That's YOUR prediction. Sorry about that. ;) Lamar may be a good fit for him.
He is not good enough for the Southland
:o :o..The SOUTHLAND is one of the two WORST Division I conferences in the COUNTRY! Not good enough for THEM? PLEASE!  ::)...I like Zach's game a lot. He may need a RS year to get some weight  and strength on him, but the kid can play.
I agree. He needs to put on 12-15 lbs of muscle in order to play at the next level. It can easily be achieved over the summer with the right guidance and dedication. He has the skills, but lacks the physicality, IMO.
..if he can dribble without bouncing it off his sneaker...he can play at LU
LOL... Poor Lamar... It would be harder to make the Port Arthur Sea Hawks team than LU.
  9. I think everyone is missing the point of MVP!  You have to consider also what the team would have done without that particular person.  Take Weisbrod off of Nederland and they probably don't make the playoffs. There are several others IMO that could be MVP but if you remove them from there teams they are more likely to finish in the same position they did because of there surrounding talent. IMO....

All the more proof why enrollment numbers alone should not determine the classification of magnet schools. When you can maneuver players from an entire city with enrollment enough for 3 high schools, playing against 4a schools seems a bit slanted now doesn't it?
What's the difference between a Beaumont eighth grader choosing to go to Ozen or Central and a Port Arthur eighth grader choosing to go to Nederland High School?
The PA kid has no choice. If he lives in PAISD, he goes to PAISD. If he lives in NISD, he goes there. Huge difference.
So no PA eighth grader ever transferred to NISD for highschool?
I never said that. However, in order to do so, one must show proof of living within the boundaries of NISD. One cannot live within PAISD and choose to attend NISD. There is no choice of which school they wish to attend as it is in Beaumont.
Well "legally" in Beaumont you don't get to choose either. You have to live in the high school's zone or qualify for the high school's magnet program. And yes "proof" is required.
I thought BISD had open enrollment? According to their website:

    BEAUMONT ISD STUDENT TRANSFER NOTIFICATION

    BEAUMONT INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
    ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
    DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT SERVICES
    3395 HARRISON AVE.  77706
    PHONE 617-5109

All parents/guardians of students attending schools in B.I.S.D. are afforded the opportunity to request transfer to the school of their choice.
And that's not the same as a kid transferring into NISD?
Which kid transferred to Nederland?
I'm not stating a specific kid. I'm talking about the statements of BISD being a open enrollment district where the kids get to choose what high school they want to go to. There are rules in place that have to be followed. Yes you can request a transfer but, the enrollment rules in BISD doesn't give any Beaumont high school an athletic advantage like some on here imply.
Everyone has an opinion on whether or not there is an advantage. That's an entire different topic, and that is not what we are discussing here. I answered your question on how the rules in BISD are different in NISD. You seemed to think they were equal, while clearly they are not. BISD has open enrollment while NISD does not have that luxury.
How is it open enrollment if the student has to request a transfer?
Yeoj your just not getting it!  In beaumont you can request a transfer and be accepted without physicaly moving where you live. If a PA kid wanted to attend Nederland He or She would have to move/sell  there home and buy one in the NISD school zone.  Do you see the difference?

Vidor will get their first District win of the season tonight.
How'd you know??
Because Livingston is weak!! I think most JV teams in the district would beat Livingston right now... I think they lost some key players to grades.
Oh okay.
Not to take anything away from Vidor, a win is a win and congrats to them. Larry is a good person and coach... I wish them the best..
