Depth in general seems to be problematic in Vidor. Their athletic (football specifically) enrollment numbers aren't anywhere near the level of other schools. Seems like the sidelines have less and less bodies on them every year. And I don't know if kids are losing interest, or if parents push for other sports with all the revelations of CTE. For fielding such a small amount of players, it's ashamed their school enrollment numbers keep them aligned where they are.

#9, Jackson LaPray  (the kicker), has the speed to get outside, but has not been utilized much, except for kicking. In the Nederland game, he scored two TDs outside, just outran the defense to the corner and is the fastest player on the team.  Should see more action running the ball this week as half the usual starting backfield will see defensive duty instead.
 

Beefing up the defense with players coming over from the offense.  Injuries and lack of depth has caught up with this team. 

OOL, but I like your post.  Thanks for the eyewitness analysis.  And again, not blaming the kids, they give it everything they have for Matthews, and that’s all anyone can ask.  Good luck to the Pirates tomorrow night.

Kids play for coaches they like, and know care about them. There isn't a question that Mathews cares about his kids. 

Coach Mathews is an excellent motivator. He knows how to fire the kids up and have them ready to play. He explains the battle plan, and they buy into it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But you have to buy into it as a team, or it falls apart. Having 1 player say "this is stupid." is cancerous. Having parents instill in their kid's head "that's stupid." is cancerous.

All kidding aside. After seeing these pictures that kinda pisses me off!  You’d be a fool to believe that’s the only time they’ve done that! Trying to steal an advantage on some teenage boys that put in the hard work, sweat, and time to play the game they love! That’s pretty Freakin Low! Good Grief!!
