  1. Way to go Hawks! is brazos supposed to be any good?
  2. sounds reasonable... like i said, i didn't see much of the kid, so i'm glad to hear some opinions. the whole of it is that there are always going to be inconsistencies when it comes to all-district and all-state, and this is a perfect example of that.
  3. i think you're point is somewhat proven. you're neglecting the fact that these coaches have every reason to bargain for their own players, and bring in politics when it suits them. i can't say anything about mr. johnson's situation, because i don't know enough about him. but it could also be argued that when he was taken out of a situation where the coaches were playing favorites and bargaining for their own players, he was given a much higher honor based on his ability, rather than what his coach was able to work out for him. i'm also confused about another thing... if he's not even good enough to be considered a top-level defensive player in the district, why is an elite college such as texas so interested in him? again, i don't know much about his season, and i am only trying to bring up discussion points. something doesn't add up somewhere. i do recall my senior year of high school where a defensive back on our team was only chosen as an honorable mention pick for all district, while the coach's son was a unanimous first teamer at the same position. not only was the the coaches son the lesser player, but the honorable mention player made 1st team all state (probably a direct result of leading the entire state in interceptions for 3A football).
  4. Unless the Lamar team that everyone was expecting in the preseason polls shows up, i say tech by 30 points. If Lamar can somehow wake up and play MUCH better than any game they've played all season, i say they lose by less than 10.
  5. it's not going to make a big difference, even if they get all ten of these guys. soccer has to grow in popularity before star-power is going to make any real difference at all. how many people who care nothing about soccer are going to say "hey, they have some french dude named Henry? i better start going to the games!" while getting some stars from overseas may bring a few soccer fans into the mix who hated the MLS because in the past it's been slow and boring, i just don't see it making a major impact. The beckham effect was a one-time deal. He is recognizable across the US, to soccer lovers and the soccer ignorant alike. there is no other player like that in the world. i do think that soccer will continue to grow, however, as more and more young children are beginning to play. as for the older generations who didn't grow up with it, i don't think there's anything we can do to get their attention, with the exception of a nude jessica simpson halftime performance.
  6. i say next year we have a site-sponsored boxing match between ozensfinest and beards_bro. the loser has to put the necessary apostrophe in their avatar, and the winner gets to put the player of their choice on the all-district second team. the bout can be scored by coop and j-dawg. if no winner is decided in the boxing match, then a fight to the death will ensue.
  7. For me it wasn't any particular game, it was just watching all the buzz on here. In years past I've only cheered for one or two teams, but getting involved on here made me feel like i had personal stake in every game. I enjoyed watching the various districts unfold, and watching some of the more memorable playoff runs that our area has had in the past few years. I've had fun, and i can't wait until next season starts up!
  8. i didn't really see much of johnson's play this year, but i do know this... all-district picks are often politically influenced, so that may explain the disparity here. also, all-state picks are made mostly on stats, especially if a team doesn't go deep into the playoffs, so they may not have seen him play at all. i dunno, kinda strange how things work out.
  9. I've been impressed with the lady hawks this year... how did they do last year? i don't remember there being much talk about them.
  10. it's a little early to start this type of speculation. let's re-examine things when we're halfway through district. one thing i will say... silsbee is the only team that can beat HJ this year, unless HJ plays their worst game in two years against one of the other teams. as for third place, there hasn't been enough head-to-head between the teams that will be fighting it out. Once we start seeing some of the results from those games, it may be a little easier to call.
  11. way to go hawks! this also was a good chance for big sandy to get in a tough game to prepare themselves for later in the year.
  12. I think it's all being blown out of proportion. You shouldn't punish players for breaking rules that were either: A) not even rules yet at the time they were breaking them not being enforced at the time
  13. He's actually a very well-made robot. he only needs one hour of sleep a night to "reboot"
  14. i think they'd still finish near the top of the pack in the west, but i don't think they win it all this year. the pistons have shown they can beat them already. if they do manage to get by them to the championship, i don't think they'll be able to beat whoever the west sends in a 7 game series. it's also been yet to see what will happen when you put three superstars on a team for an entire year. they might eventually start bickering over points and whatnot before the year is through. who knows, though. they have one hell of a team with some serious star power.
  15. i do believe in the forum rules it states that there will be no bashing of the athletes. way to not single anybody out. give the kids some credit. they played a great team, and won't be the last team to lose to HJ by a lot in district play.
  16. merry christmas from Atlanta, Georgia! and then dallas, and then houston, and then finally back to beaumont
  17. better sign prior to a contract where he gets payed by the game...
  18. i'm pretty sure i didn't say that stuff. i wasn't even really active on here back when that game was played. if you can show me where i said that, i'll be more than happy to apologize. if you'll read through the recent threads about HJ and silsbee, while i've stated i think HJ is the better team, i've given ya'll some respect in my posts.
  19. you were at the game oldtimer? i wasn't, but i've heard from several people, both HJ fans and otherwise who were there who said it was bad. it seems from your posts that you feel the refs never have any hand in what happens, and that it's never a valid reason for a team to lose. come back to the real world, where refs occasionally do cheat, and where teams occasionally do lose from it. I'm not saying this happened at the HJ game, but you make it sound like there's no way it did happen, could've happened, or ever will happen. you have to remember that the HJ fans love their team, and they're going to defend their team when they feel they've been cheated. don't criticize them for that. regardless, the game was meaningless, and the district now has to deal with a pissed off HJ.
  20. he's a good player. he's never really gotten the chance to play everyday due to suspect hitting vs. lefties, but i think if he gets the chance to do it, he'll be alright. i've followed his career since i graduated with his younger brother, and he's pretty solid. he'll probably never be an allstar, but he's more than capable of .270-.280 with 15-20 HR's and 80-90 RBI's.
  21. well, the zebras had a hand in it, if i heard right. regardless, if HJ plays them again on a neutral court, with unbiased refs, i'll place my bet on HJ. in my opinion, cheated or not, this is a great time for HJ to lose a game. now that they won't have to worry about that long winning streak, they can refocus and concentrate on bringing home another district crown.
