i have 3 comments about this... 1) this was a fluke 2) how many 4th place teams lost by 50 in the first round? 3) why is a team that couldn't even finish in the top 3 in their own district even allowed a chance to play in the playoffs.  if you can't be competitive in your district, you haven't earned a chance to play in the playoffs, even if you get lucky and peak at the right time and win a few games once you get there.
To answer #3, some districts are much more competitive than others.  This district (22-4A) has had second and third place teams go as deep or deeper than the district champ.
well, this district really had 3 first place teams.  it wasn't like 2nd and 3rd place were way back in the standings.  but, you do bring up a legitimate point.  some districts are far more competitive than others... but there are very few in the state that can field four teams that deserve to make the playoffs.
2. whatever.  when i was vacationing in florida this summer i caught and released that shark's great grandpa.  :) all jokes aside, that's one hell of a shark.

4. i'm an HJ fan, not an OF fan.  i'm just saying that any visiting fan that makes the trip to HJ ought to be able to enjoy watching the game.  the HJ fans should certainly be able to sit on the visitors' side, especially if the HJ side is full, but they need to show enough class to be respectful and realize what side of the gym they are on.  Basically, if you're going to act like a buffoon, you need to stay on your side of the gym (I'm not implying that HJ fans did this, just stating a generality).  If you're willing to show class and be a respectful fan, sit wherever you'd like.  This thread isn't an OF/HJ thread, as Mwhizzie would like to make it.  It's just a basketball etiquette question.  BUT, if a group of OF fans had sat in the middle of the hecklers and acted a fool, Mwhizzie would've probably been the first person to tell them to move, and you would've been right to do so.
5. maybe making specific rules isn't realistic, but having leadership at the game to make sure things don't get out of hand isn't.  i agree with you that you do not know how people are going to act before they get into the gym, but once they get there, and start acting up, officials should do whatever is necessary to make sure that everyone can enjoy the game.  if that means moving a few rowdy fans back to their side of the gym, then do it.  that's all i'm saying.  if someone from the opposite team is on your side but isn't doing anything to upset you, then let them sit there.  if they are rowdy or obnoxious, let the powers that be get them out of your hair.  it wouldn't take a lot to enforce this, and anyone who made a big deal about it could be removed from the gym.  i believe that a fan has a right to sit on the other side of the court, but i don't think they should be allowed to ruin the viewing experience of the visiting fans, even if they are cheering for my beloved hawks...
6.
You can't make certain rules, for certain people. Either the home side sits on the home side or anyone sit anywhere.  In Orangefield there has never been a problem with that because the doors are marked who sits where. It's simple you just have to read.  I don't see a point in sitting on the other teams side?  Are you just trying to cause problems or trying to be offended?  I for one would stand before I ever sat on another teams side because I have respect for the other team that they don't have to hear my big mouth the whole game.
i think you can make certain rules for certain people.  take the OF/HJ game.  with all of the griping that was already going on, can you imagine if the hawk hecklers had spent the second half on the visitor's side of the gym?  it would have been crazy, and the administrators would've stepped in.  as for the quiet hawk fans, they should be able to sit wherever they want at a home game.  i think the flipside of this would be if some visiting OF fans had sat right behind the hawk bench and started heckling.  it would've been a bad situation, and somebody would've and should've stopped it in order to avoid a problem with fans fighting.  i think a lot of HJ fans sit on the visiting side because, even though the appreciate what the hawk hecklers do, it can be tough to watch a game if you're sitting near them.  as long as fans are respectful of each other, as they should be, it shouldn't be a big deal if you get a few fans intermingling.
7. for me, you should be able to sit where you want.  the only problem i can see would be if a group of hecklers wanted to go onto the opposing team's side. groups like that should be required to stay on their team's side of the gym to avoid conflict.  other than that, any fan who wants should be able to sit where you want... just don't get upside if you're on the other team's side and you hear some things about your team that upset you.
8. LCM 7 HJ 1 I remember when our games with LCM used to be close, hard-fought affairs. maybe HJ can get it together over the next couple of years and turn back into a winning program.
9. Kelly uses the momentum of having played for several weeks and beats Nederland 4-1.
10. do they still have the slam dunk contest out at lamar every year? i guess we can find out then.
11. me either! of course, the last time it happened was the year before i was born
12. just about anybody commiting this crime would get off with a slap on the wrist. i do think that his team should punish him, though. not because it's some tremedously scandalous crime, but because he might have to miss a game because of it. if you're going to do something stupid like this that could hurt your team, you deserve a fine or suspension (not to mention how he would've hurt the team had he crashed going this fast)
13. this is a pretty outrageous scoreline. i honestly thought it was a typo when i first saw it. it's hard to criticize a team for winning a game like this. they didn't score a ridiculous amount of points, they just played good defense. it could be argued that they should've just played keepaway the last quarter to keep things reasonable, but this isn't like football, where you want to eat the clock to keep a game from getting out of hand. i think in this situation it's more reasonable for BS to continue taking shots and running their offense. this way, evadale at least has a chance to get the ball back and go score to try to make their point total more respectable.
14. gilmer's probably gonna put a hurting on them, but it will be great experience for the players before district starts...
15. i'd like to see it stay at three teams per district... for the most part, that 4th place team is just going to be somebody's warm-up game the first week of playoffs... but whatever, we can just keep adding teams. pretty soon we can change it to everyone making the playoffs, and have a november/december madness.
16. Dayton Ozen PNG Lumberton if dayton goes to another district, throw nederland in there... i think ozen is going to surprise some people next year, and that central might need another year before they get back to the playoffs... of course, who knows what might really happen
17. thanks Coop... you're a bundle of semi-useful information ;D
18. Alright guys, the orangefield fans are mad because HJ fans sat on the visitor's side, and the HJ fans who sat on the visitor's side are mad about how the OF fans acted. Both sides may have a legit gripe (i wasn't there), but i don't like how anyone is handling it. get back on the subject of the game, or i'll have to either delete the thread or start sending out warnings, which i really don't want to do. when this little debate started, it had a small bit of merit, but now it's being taken to far. if you want to debate it farther, start a new thread so we can delete it and move on with our lives.
19. I'm shocked to see this result. with their pre-district play, i thought LCM was a legit contender for 2nd or 3rd in district. they can't afford many more results like this. congrats to vidor on a big win.
