highsky, i bet those pictures are really cool, and i'd love to run across some great stuff like that one day.

I thought the coolest thing in the whole article is when he talked about being in first grade and all the boys dreamed about was one day being on that football field and becoming a legendary Bobcat. I can still to this day remember those same feelings and just wanting to grow up and get out there on friday nights and be a hero. I also remember learning that it was not alright to lose to Hardin or West Hardin under any circumstances lol. Man, we gotta get that back in our kids today and I think Coach Slack is doing a good job with that. ;D

I tried to post one of the pics that I do have on my flash drive, but, for some reason, I couldn't upload it.  It was a pic of my grandfather with 2 other HD players in a 3 point stance.  One of the fellows was Hubert Davis, I believe (off the top of my head) but I can't remember who the other was.  I have 2-3 team pics and several others with just 2-3 players in them.
  2. That was a very good read.  My grandfather, Alton Young, and his brother, Horace, played on those H-D teams  Matter of fact, I have several pictures of the teams.  I also have some small strip-like (not negatives, pictures like the kind you get in a photo booth at the mall) of a Hull-Daisetta practice from 1939.  You can see a HB sweep among other things.  Very neat pictures!

I have only posted twice on this site.  Did not know it existed until last year, I was one that there was so much negative remarks being made.  It is sad, that bashing, taunting, fault finding is what we are drawn to.  Kind of like the news, all you hear is bad.  Look how many people will read a post that is bashing a coach or a team.  As the coach of Warren High School I would llike to ask my players if you are involved in the negative remarks or trash talking that we stop.  I have all the respect for Regina and Tabitha.  They are both great coaches that produce great teams year after year.  I love my girls and I hope none of us are responsible for making the remarks about being awesome or  perfect.  I had to apologize to my team for my behavior when we played Woodville.  I do not feel we played good, however if you ask Tabitha there were times that she probably was not happy with the way their team played.  But I got very angry over a volleyball game.  We have men loosing their lives in war and we are arguing over a game.  I am a
born again Christian.  I do not need to go around boasting, bragging about being a Christian, however as a child of God I do need to live a Godly life.  When I stand before God I know he is not going to ask me how many wins or did I make it to the play-offs, however I probably will be asked at about the times I lost my temper or children over a game.  God gave us healthy bodies to be able to play this games and that is what we need to do.  Put the Shut to the Up and play.  Good luck to all of you.  My girls, please do not post negative remarks.  If you want to show you level of play...do it on the court not on this site.

You are a class act, Coach.  This is why you have been successful wherever you have been and you have the support of the Lady Hornets.  Thank you and good luck.
  4. Funny on the "gift wrap" comment...did you know that Hardin was short one starter due to injury?  Woodville doesn't have room to talk since they kept saying they had starters out during the season.

Warren doesn't have room to talk either in the "trashtalking" comment.  I saw both games (not the seeding game, I was out of town) but in the first game (in Warren) one of your ladies was lucky she didn't get a yellow card for taunting after she put a kill away.  The second game, you tried to trashtalk but Hardin was giving back as good as you gave.  In the end, stats don't mean anything.  The only stat I care about is the score at the end.

There's a reason Hardin has been in the playoffs 8 times since 2000 and it's not because they "giftwrapped" anything.  Go try again...

1 loss and 2 wins against a team doesnt make them co- anything. warren beat hardin twice and lost one. warren is the champion of the district. when hardin called the first time, they wanted a coin toss. the second time they called they said they had a player injured and  they didnt want to play. what would you call it?

Sorry but Hardin and Warren are officially District Co-Champions.  The 3rd game was for seeding.  Don't be a hater, be a congratulator.  I think it is just sour grapes on Warren's part because they really wanted an outright district championship.  Nothing wrong with wanting it outright and wanting to have a perfect season in district, but don't down Hardin (and their coaches) because they beat Warren in what was a good match and ruined that particular goal.  Let's just move on folks...this happened 3-4 days ago...it's over and done.  Playoffs are here so let's talk playoffs.
  6. I have seen EC play twice this year and I was shocked at the disparity of both games.  The first time I saw them, they played awesome and with a lot of heart & hustle.  The second time, there was no evidence of the same team that I saw the first time even though it was the same players.  I was scratching my head over the difference.

  7. The playoffs will be a completely different subject.Any time you have a single match playoff format anything can happen.I think(but wouldn't swear to it)that Warren saw Centerville last year and I know they are ranked pretty high so there won't be any cake walks in the playoffs. You are right on about the unforced errors on the serve. You can't give away points in the playoffs and advance.I've been very impressed with the left handed hitter this year. She seems to be getting on top of her shots and can really kill it.The serves seem to be called from the bench and that can be a big plus when you get the placement down.

Good post.  The lefty is pretty good and it is hard for a team to block a good lefty at the net.  She has a better angle than most at that particular spot.  Unforced errors can kill a team (although it didn't when I saw them...they still won) but they can be overcome...or not.  It just depends on the team that they face.  If a team can't take advantage of the unforced errors to gain momentum or a big lead, then they are not disciplined enough to win.  I've seen serves called from the bench and it can be an advantage if you have a coach good enough to notice tendencies in the other team but if they are a good serve/receive team then it doesn't matter much.

  8. Centerville isnt perfect.... I watched them beat out Kountze last year and they make mental mistakes just like every other team. Yes I think Warren and Woodville can give them a run for their money.

Nobody plays perfect volleyball, not even the college elite.  However, it is the team that is disciplined enough to make the least amount of mistakes and, from what I've seen of Warren and Woodville, if Centerville played them right now then Centerville wins in 3 against both teams.  There is a reason Centerville is, what, 33-0 and ranked in the top 3.  White Oak is up there with them.

  9. I think Warren has the skills to make it past Centerville to get to regionals and beyond. They are some beasts at the net, and their defense is pretty solid. Not to mention, they have more height than most 2A and even 3A teams in Hatton, Brent, and their lefty. These girls want it so bad they can taste it, and as long as they keep the heart and determiniaton, what's stopping them? They're a force to be reckoned with...that's all I'm saying.

    Good Luck Lady Warriors!  ;)

    You haven't seen Centerville.

  10. Any other reports on 23-2A games?

    Warren over EC

    Hardin over Deweyville

Makes you wonder what EC's head coach is thinking....what's it going to take to make some MUCH needed changes in the lineup???

There is nothing wrong with EC's lineup.  I am surprised they are only 4-3 but even 4-3 is an improvement from last year.  Look, they have played & lost to Warren (who is undefeated) and Hardin (who has lost only to Warren).  The only surprise was that Buna beat them but Buna is not a slouch, especially on front row.  They (Buna) can block and hit but only in certain rotations.  I have a feeling that EC will beat Buna the 2nd time around.  Warren is beatable as well.

Anyone is beatable but if Warren stays healthy they are gonna be tough on anyone in this district. They have enough hitters they can keep at least two on the net at all times and that's tough on the 2-a level.

Yes, you are right.  With their hitters, they are very tough, however, playoffs are a different thing.  One thing I noticed about Warren is that they make a lot of bad serves (OB or in the net) and they will have to improve that if they want to go deep in the playoffs.  One thing I have got to tell you is that, in the playoffs, it's not tough to find a team in 2A that has at least 2 hitters on the net at all times.  Centerville and White Oak are two examples.

Thought the thread topic was about 23-2A...not the playoffs...

That is true that this thread is about 23-2A district, but what happens when district is over?  The playoffs.  What will probably happen is that Warren wins district then has to probably go through Centerville to make regionals in Tyler.

  11. The University of Nebraska went to OU to play a volleyball match and the OU girls basketball team did not show very good sportsmanship in this instance.  If you watch the video, you will see the players yelling and screaming at the Nebraska server.  Notice how close they are to the server and yes, the stands were that close.  For what it is worth, the Big 12 officials that worked the game were dismissed.  (the players also had thunderstix but those were taken up before what is shown on the video.)
