I just don't see any growth in our area in the future. Mouse said that about lamarque goin down. I am not familiar with Lamarque, but I would bet their growth is due to refining. The refineries hire, but do so locally and population doesn't change. Then you have that new hire move to a better city and enrollment drops. Coaches are humans. Some are good and some are bad. The worst thing a coach can do is play a kid that doesn't deserve to play. That pisses me off bad. It happens and from what I read it happens a lot. But be real, that can be a life lesson also. Bigcam touched on it. If you happen to be one of the elite players that made a living playing a "game" then consider yourself lucky. These kids can learn lessons on a team that they could only learn in the military. These are life lessons, not perfect world lessons. I hade the privilege to play for bobby August and won 2 games in two years. But the things I learned have helped me. I want every kid to b successful but that ain't how it works. I think success should be measured on the things that are accomplished that are above the expected. If you expect any team from this area to win state next year, then you need to quit drinking and go to rehab. It is possible and hopefully one will, but be real when you look at your team. If you wanna know how bad your predictions are, go back and read the threads from the beginning of the season.

i don't expect teams around here to win state every year or really go that far, but just don't settle for a 3-7 or 4-6 season and be happy you made the playoffs. i would like PAM and others to be MORE COMPETITIVE out side of the confines of the SETX, more specific, the golden triangle area. example: playing Katy or Manvel i expect a win or a very close game..7 points or less. alot of the times, teams from the area look like deer in the head lights along with the coaches. even if the other team is visiting. seems like everyone forgets how to play football

oh lamarques lack of growth is due to there is no industry. some people work at the plants, but that's texas city money. there is no industry pumping money into LM. All the talent and families are or have moved north closer to houston. clear lake isd, manvel, pearland,friendswood and some to dickinson. notice the schools/districts i mentioned are all significant as in they are still playing football with pretty good records.

How is that resume helping them this year? How does anything they've done in previous years win them games this year?

how does  one good season is gonna help you against bellville?? you can ask yourself that same question...now, if you want to know some of these kids sibblings have been on these championship/deep playoff run teams. they know how to handle the bright lights...at somepoint, one class have been there and know what's it like and prepare the younger players. so when the younger players become seniors, they do the same thing. HJ- you just got a little taste of success...you haven't rumbled with ANYONE worth mentioning except WO-S. once you get past the the 3rd and fourth(don't worry, you won't) you come across teams that will smoke WOS like a crackhead smoking crack!! wo-s beat you like a drum and you think you are ready HA ROFLMAO

ahhhh...come back with to some healthy discussion on the topic. this is how i intended the thread to be. now with that being said, i wanna go back say 20-25 years ago. now, not many if any was getting past the 3rd or 4th then. why?? back then it was harder to make the the playoffs. depending how far you go back, only the district champ went to the playoffs. imagine it. going up against THE best from rd 1 till the end. MUCH tougher. then they were a little nice and started letting the second place team make it. i think with the watered down playoffs, their is no urgency to play better or take it that one step up. the coaches and players know they only need 2-3 wins. i say go back to the district champ or at the minimum second place teams. i'm willing to bet you see different schemes, better coaching, and better effort from the players. because at that point, nothing will be cupcake and you actually work your butt off for it. just my opinion.

Sweeny isn't anywhere close to what West Orange is going to bring. And you talk like LM is this unbeatable force. I'm saying you're sadly mistaken. The only decent team they've played ALL SEASON is Texas City, and you already know the outcome of that one. HJ, OF, and WO-S have had a far tougher schedules, and HJ has the same record. Keep on thinking LM is that good. Just going to make the loss hurt even more.

who said they were?? i just said they passed the heck out of the ball with a good QB. and they still loss. TC vs LM was a close game and it is also a rival game...hats off to TC, but what are they doing now??? watching LM lol. i didn't say the were unbeatable...just nobody from SETX can do it. roflmao. also to put it in perspective, LM doesn't have a bunch of pansy 5a teams close to them they can play. ball is getting better and TC. after that, that's it. they take who wants to play them and truth be told, the district isn't exactly rich, so traveling has to be within reason. that school district is in poor shape and doing what it can to pay it's teachers

LM was 5A in 1986 now they are 4A ( old 3A Division II) , their numbers keep dropping. Sorry buddy but the glory days are over. LM has a proud tradition as they should have but I don't see any state titles in their future. Just being real.  WOS wont be just a test, I promise and I don't see a state title in their future either. I can always hope though for WOS that is. By the way when was LM last state title?

06 and last appearance was 2011. when was ANYONE from the triangle that close and don't give me newton. i already know that. i told that to someone on LM site and they got butt hurt. i don't see them being around in 4-5 years. this might be the last year they have a decent team with a pretty good defense, IF the adults put them in position to make plays on passing situations

The problem with your argument is that you are comparing regions that are not the same in area, population, number of schools, etc to one another.  You want to say that SETX football programs are failing because they arent as successful those of the San Antonio, Austin, and the Metroplex, but this is a false comparison.  A more fair comparison would be to compare the success of NETX (East of 59 and North of Newton.  Also, if your standard of success is only those schools that have made the state semis in the past four years, I'm afraid you will find few schools outside of the major populations centers and the perenial 1A level powers that meet those standards.  Bottom line your standards are unreasonably high given the limited are you are criticizing.

in the beginning this was about the golden triangle. i'm comparing a 6a powerhouse to nederland. i'm comparing classification to classification. there is no reason a 5a school from the GT to be getting smashed year in and year out. 6A is a little tougher, but still doable. maybe SETX need it's own championship lol. i find it funny that  it's the same teams in the hunt EVERY YEAR for a big title run and nobody around can get out the freaking 3rd most of the time. not the kids fault. and you of all people know what i mean. dean colbert and PAM. you was right there calling for this guys head. well that type of mentality is spreading. nobody wants to fix anything.

When LM gets spanked by West Orange, don't try to make excuses about coaching. If they're as good as you say, they should breeze by WO-S. I can't wait to see the final of that one. Good luck trying to stop the West Orange passing game. If you do, you won't stop the running game. I like La Marque thinking that they can't be beat. Just be in for a rude awakening come round 3!

never said LM was going to breeze by WOS...it's no secret that LM has problems defending the pass. they stop the run really well. look it up, hell sweeny put 300 in air the first time they played this year...didn't help them win the game lol..hopefully LM know what to expect now. who said anything about blaming coaching?? it is what it is...if coaches go away from what works, yes that's a  coaching error that could cost the game.

No, but we predicted that OF would win, and they did. From the way the posts were going, a few OF turnovers were what kept it close. I may be wrong, but if those don't happen, he doesn't have to run for over 300 yards. He stepped up and got the team the W. All that shows me is that Kashmere's run defense isn't very good. And, I am in no way taking anything away from the OF kid, I'm just saying that if you give up 300 to ONE player, you're doing something wrong - something that will always get you knocked out in the first round to a solid running team.

Hate to disappoint you mightymouse but LM is a former shell of itself . The glory days are gone, HF did not get spanked by them and they should be concerned if they meet WOS, HJ or Orangefield. Talk about someone living in the past, that is you. By the way my brother was the QB for LM when they went to the state title game against Plano in 1986. Lots have changed since then.

If you know anything about sports gambling, there's always a spread, and you put it at 4 TD's. That's why I picked them to cover, because it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about. I think HJ is going to win, so I would be stupid not to take the bet on a 28 point spread. So, HJ's wins against 2 or 3 (depends on if you count Jasper) East Texas Schools mean nothing? welcome back. gotta question for you. how well is the coaching in your part of the state?? how would you compare it to...say...SETX?? seriously. just want an opinion from a fan that follows a team that make deep runs or  should i say, don't settle for mediocrity.
