    Cardinal Backer you seem to have some deep seeded frustrations going on.  I don't understand that because I am sure you were one of those guys in school who was a jock - who had a coach that was like a father to you.   Some of your argument makes sense.  The community size and effort.  However, as someone with 4 family members who teach I think I should shed a little light on your thoughts.
    First, teachers contracts are for a MINIMUM of 187 days, not 182.  That will cause some adjustment to your daily rate.  I do not know of a single teacher that works an 8:00 - 3:30 day.  In fact, at Bridge City the day officially starts at 7:45 and ends at 3:45.  That is unless there is a faculty meeting or a certification meeting that is held - mandatorily.  The teacher does not make overtime for the extra hour(s).  Nor does the teacher get paid to take home the papers/projects/assignments he or she has to grade.  Nor does the teacher get compensated for all of the paper and pencils they are required to provide for the Larry's and Joe's that will not bring one from home.  Teachers are not compensated for the time they MUST spend in summer conferences.
    For a coach it is so much better! I know a coach who kept a log of his schedule during football season.  This is what that looks like...
    Monday 7:00 staff meeting.  Football practice from 3:30 - 5:45.  Get kids out of the building and in cars to go home - watch the practice video - plan tomorrow practice.  Go home at 7:15.  (12 hours)
    Tuesday (laundry day) 7:00 to put out the laundry for the team.  Same practice schedule -- (12 hours)
    Wednesday - 7:45 school.  After planning tomorrow practice - stay and watch about 30 minutes of film for the next opponent. Go home - 8:00 average --  (12 hours)
    Thursday - JV game day.  Arrive at 7:00 to pass out uniforms.  School.  Load busses etc...  play a game or two (9th and JV) back home - start the laundry, clean the locker room.  Go home about 9:30 average.  (14.5 hours)

    Here is the kicker!  Schools pay coaches for all of that time!  Take a look -- BISD football is $3500.  They do not pay the extra 10 days that are required to start in July.  So in BISD - an assistant football coach will make $3500/80.5 hrs per week X 12 weeks minimum.  That is 996 hours minimum for 3500 =  $3.51 per hour.   Wait $3.51 per hour???  For a part time job.  Spring ISD is thought to be one of the better paying stipend schools -- for football they $6500.  Assuming the same schedule --- The better paying schools pay $6.52/hour.  That should make you turn over in your sleep!
    Oh yea - you don't get to choose your teacher?  Well, you can change school?  You can go to private school?  You can home school?  And these days -- you can tell your kid to act up in class and report the bad behavior of the teacher to the school board and they will re-assign the teacher.
    Fact of the matter is - that all jobs matter.

    Strong point Range.  However, you fail to think of one very strong point, which was mentioned earlier.  Most guys that get hired as HC, were hired because they knew someone, regardless of whether or not they were successful coordinators.  Having lived in the north Houston area for several years you will never be able to tell me that Aldine Nimitz does not have some talented kids.  The districts they have [played in over the past 10 years or so were not very strong and a coach that could relate to the kids and had a plan could be successful there.  You will not find that kind of athlete at Sterling.  So if he cannot win with really good athletes, how can he win without them?
    After doing a little more research, I have been told this job was not even posted to the typical job boards that advertise jobs across the state of Texas.  Doesn't that speak to the idea that they were not looking for a great coach?  Are you going to tell me that a coordinator from Lake Travis would not be interested in making more money and being a head coach?  Or someone from Southlake, Cedar Park, West-Orange or any number of other programs?  I will never believe that argument.

    It is just like any other business...  until and unless you have worked in a school system to see how things are done, you will never understand the politics that go on in something like this.  I got out of the school man years ago because of it.  This board (SETXSPORTS) Is for rumors and 'i hope this happens' believers.  Without knowing the underbelly of all of these moves is purely speculation.  I have no dog in this hunt, i do not know any of these people personally - but i am a fan of sports and of good stories.   I hate to know that somewhere along the way a great story gets interrupted by a personal agenda....  Coach Crayder was run out of town for a personal agenda.  So was Haynes.  I wish Coach Babin all the luck in the world, but I hate the way it went down and I think there are quite a few of you who also think that.

    So why wouldn't they let Haynes carry a full staff but now when Babin comes in they let him hire new spots all the sudden. That right there shows the people pulling the strings didn't want to give Haynes a fair shot or do what is supposed to be done. How else can you explain them creating positions for one guy but taking them away from another. So these people who are Principals / Superintendents / Board Members can't honestly say they were doing there jobs with the students in that community's best interest. If you hire a coach he begs for more coaches and you make him coach with only 1 offensive varsity assistant coach, then he has a better season than the last 3 combined, Seniors all coming back, so lets fire him, bring in a new guy(not to bash Babin but fact is he has 140 less wins than Haynes) as an apparent upgrade, then say ok now that Haynes is gone you can hire a full staff. If that doesn't prove that someone who is making the decisions has extremely low character, and has a personal agenda that comes before doing right by the Students you are hired to serve, then everyone on this site is just playing nice and lying to themselves. How can you be in Administration and ask a coach to labor with ONLY 4 varsity assistants in 5A football in TEXAS then fire him and allow the next guy to bring in a full staff, and honestly say to yourself I'm good at my job and operate with type of ethics that student athletes can aspire to. That administration has some serious bipolar tendencies to say the least.

    it seems to me that everyone is missing the point.  if the coach really told chargois about the problem, and I believe he probably did, and chargois chose not to say anything to the board members, which appears to be true, the only conclusion is that chargois knew how toxic the topic would be and chose not to say anything because he knew the board would never go for the hire in the first place.  this is not about media scrutiny - this is about a school official having knowledge about something that is apparently important to many people - and then choosing to take a road that would lead to all of this trouble.  it should be the credibility of the superintendent that is being questioned, not the coach - and not the media. 
     
    this has nothing to do with Kirbyville or hull-daisetta.  this is solely about a lack of leadership and a problem with credibility.

    it seems to me that everyone is missing the point.  if the coach really told chargois about the problem, and I believe he probably did, and chargois chose not to say anything to the board members, which appears to be true, the only conclusion is that chargois knew how toxic the topic would be and chose not to say anything because he knew the board would never go for the hire in the first place.  this is not about media scrutiny - this is about a school official having knowledge about something that is apparently important to many people - and then choosing to take a road that would lead to all of this trouble.  it should be the credibility of the superintendent that is being questioned, not the coach - and not the media. 
     
    this has nothing to do with Kirbyville or hull-daisetta.  this is solely about a lack of leadership and a problem with credibility.
