Crosby scored 34 points on Porter with backups. KP held Crosby to 26, Manvel held Crosby to 21 and Houston Heights held Crosby to 25. Porter's defense gave up 34 to Crosby, 42 to Dayton but I guess you can say "held" New Caney to 28. BH will probably put another 35+ on Porter this weekend. Porter is also giving up that many point playing slow and trying to shorten the game. If you think their defense is actually pretty good, you're probably one of the ones wondering if Porter was the best team in the state before New Caney crushed them.

Hmm all their backups played I thought it was only 3 or 4.

  2. Why so defensive? It obviously worked the game plan was great and I'm  talking about what I saw as a neutral observer  the New Caney side had many other open seats I've even seen pictures of both crowds where there was many more people on the Porter side. Is this board so cynical that an observation about the game plan that worked great and was very good is viewed as a shot.

  3. Observations:

Does parking just seem so much worse at Texan Drive this year?

New Caney crowd seemed a bit underwhelming and Porter's looked huge.

New Caney's interior lineman keeping Hall from being able to step up in the pocket was huge.

Porter had 2 possessions down 13 to 7 and just couldn't quite get over the hump and New Caney made the plays needed to close it out.

Very intense game with both teams playing well and New Caney showed to be a very complete football team.

Porter's defense played well for how much they were on the field seemed to wear down a little bit towards the end, but really got after it after the first two drives.

I don't know why but I expected New Caney to pass more and test the secondary.

You are absolutely correct cause Silsbee Lite been playing without 6 players. We don't complain we go play with what we got 5 or 6 players it doesn't matter.

Why would anyone complain it is just fall/summer league?  Some teams don't even run sets or true defenses. Everyone there is probably much better than what they showed in the fall Silsbee included as you said.

  5. Is it really necessary to bash Porter and their schedule because of one silly post. We get it Crosby you had guys hurt it is a well known and well stated fact. The district is down and they haven't beat the highest level of competition also not something that is unknown. But the kids and coaching staff have worked very hard and had a great season no matter what is said or posted on here you can't take that away from the kids.

Honestly, I thought they would be. Splendora is next. That area is growing so fast, you have great facilities, good coaching, big influx of money and people = formula for success. The Cleveland area will follow. There's a lot to be said for changing US 59 into IH 69. A lot more money, industry, etc. always follows the improvement of infrastructure throughout history. I can remember playing NC back in the mid-2000s and there wasn't a lot of nothing that way. My how times change. Hard for schools that are stagnant in growth to keep up.

You thought Porter would be 7-0? I think everyone thought they would be better 5-5 or 6-4 ( which considering the 9-51 record with just 2 or 3 district wins) is pretty good. My prediction would have been 6-4 or 5-5 battling for the 4th place in district if a few things went well. But beating Crosby and Dayton (of course Dayton being further down and Crosby being very banged up that week played into it) and being undefeated going into New Caney is crazy.

Can't say for sure. I do believe Allison will play at a smaller D1. I would venture to say a couple more from Porter and NC will play at the next level although it won't be in the SEC or Big 12. Both schools have some good high school players though.

Number 6 for Porter real play D1 Basketball

  8. The differential being +8 and 8th in the league always said a lot to me. You always hear baseball people say the + - always tells the story of how good teams really are. Not to mention anything can happen in a 5 game short series. I thought coming in the Rangers would lose a 5 game series to any teams in the AL except for maybe Cleveland. Yu and Cole just didn't match up great with power lineups both had given up large amounts of home runs throughout the year.

I have never seen a team on our field line up after the game and run sprints pulling a sled. Maybe on your own field but not something I have seen on a Dayton field in the 150+ home games I have attended. Just my opinion. To your point though it may be something they always do I just don't usually stick around 15 minutes after the game and missed it in the past.

Porter does it after every game I've seen them play under Coach Holley. I haven't seen anyone else do it either.

For all but a fortunate few on this Dayton team I think last nights loss put in perspective that they only have 3 football games left. Like I told my kid high school football is a very small part of your life but the memories of the friends you have made and played with stick with you. It was tough seeing high school boys cry last night but in life you definitely are not always going to be on the winning side. I would say to them enjoy the last 3 games play hard because once it's over it's over and after this year your life adventure begins. Once again congrats to Porter. PS. Players running sprints on our field pulling a sled after the game was a little disrespectful but I know it was a big win.

They do it every game. How is that disrespectful?

JS I heard that Porter now has approx 2500 students,& New Caney 2300.Anybody confirm? Also heard w/growth out in the Plum Grove area/Cleveland ISD per 99.9 fm radio=up 531 new students.Rumor says Cleveland growing so fast they're short teachers & some said next alignment there is a slight possibility Cleveland could jump from 4a to 6a w/o playing 5a sports.Huffman is growing as well.21-5a may very well undergo many changes

Not true Porter isn't nearly that large in enrollment.

Since there's an abysmal lack of Spartans on this Forum, I'll step in and say Porter by 14.  I wouldn't want any Cougars to see this, but Porter impressed me beating Crosby.

Keep in mind how small of an alumni base Porter has only 5 graduated classes. Probably won't see a lot of Porter fans here, but the game crowds have been very good recently.
