  1. If you were starting a team in HIGH SCHOOL....Would you take TJ Ford (SugarLand Willowridge 01), Daniel Gibson (Houston Jones 04), and Daniel Ewing ( SugarLand Willowridge 01)  OR Kendrick Perkins, Chris Bosh (Dallas Lincoln 02), and Jeremis Smith (Fort Worth Dunbar 03)....LET THE DEBATE BEGIN!!

    ===================================

Hmm? If I was starting a high school team, hmm? Hmmm-mm? You always need a big, but you also need someone to get the ball to the big man. Hmmm? Sheez! Okay, since it's whole court I have decided to take the guards and play an up tempo game by beating the bigs down the court....hmmm? These bigs can get down the court, though!

oKAY, I'll take the bigs and use my height advantage/speed and play with some slow guards. What my slow/average guards do will be over compenated by the bigs and their inside game. Thats my answer.

  2. There was a mistake. Shannon Robinson led Silsbee with 19, Pheal Hill 17 and DK Howard had 16.

Lets see, 19+17+16=52 points. So that means the other two starters scored at least 10 points a piece. So 52 + 20=72 points.

So if you estimate the Silsbee bench scored the remaining 34 points, thats means we could have beaten Silsbee 38-34 if Silsbee only played their bench against our starters. So, the score doesn't look so bad afterall.

  3. Now THAT was a racist post. African Tribal League? What is that about?

for god sakes dickie v why did you have to bring race into this.  He mentioned the mormans and that didnt bother anyone!!!!!!!!!  It was a joke!

Hmm? I thought Morman was a prophet and also a religious based organization and not a race of people?

  4. It's sad but sometimes you have to show tough love. I still don't understand how a kid could have that kind of problems in a sport and a dad can't fix the problem. In my day, we were scared to talk back to the coaches. I demand that my kids respect their coaches (even if the coach is wrong:) I saw my junior high coach literally hit a guy in the mouth when the student bucked up to him. Talk about getting respect.

  5. Well i heard from his cousin that next year he is moving to Hardin-Jefferson.... His cousin just moved from Central over to HJ recently!!

What I can't understand is that ever since HJ won State. All I hear is that some good player is moving there to play ball. It sound as HJ is going to be packed with talents every year from players that not even from there. So that like saying they are cheating in some ways by getting players.

It could be true. I've met a few parents who are looking for schools outside of Beaumont ISD to get their kids into a program. HJ has a nice basketball tradition.

  6. Against South Park Thursday he had 33 points 11 rebounds 4 assists in a 3 point loss.  His attitude got the best of him.  He recieved a tech and they lost the ball and it ended up being a 4 point play and they lost by 3.

I guess it's the nature of the beast. You have a God-given talent as a young person and people continue to tell you how good you are, sooner or later you start to believe it yourself.

  7. Well, just wait until you see one of the little dribblers teams from grades k-2 in the Hardin Jefferson system.  One player is totally awesome and is the brother of a current high school star in the area.

K-2? Thats truly too early to tell if a kid is awesome. I've seen several kids at that age who were awesome but that awesome seems to diminish by the 5-6 th grade because the other kids are now beginning to catch up. To help him maintain his ability and stay ahead of the game, make sure you keep that kid practicing (if he wants to) and working on the fundamentals of the game.

I agree with doc here. I have some information about money already pledged for Lamar University football and there is NO WAY LU hires a HC from high school. If they do, then I question the research Billy Tubbs recently stated they have invested into the possible return of football at Lamar University.

Question, would do start a multiple million dollar company with a sharp young man with a bachelor's degree or would you hire an experienced older man with a master's degree? I say, hire both with the promise of promoting the younger man once the older man decides to move on or retire.

Thats already been done with the present day basketball coach & Tubbs. The jury is still out on this move.

Coach, SHSU is also expressing interest in moving up. I find it hard to believe SFA and Mcneese will not follow.
The slc could look like this in the future.

    Lamar
    Delta st
    Tarleton st
    Mid-western st
    Nicholls st
    Houston Baptist
    UTA

Okay, the question still remains, where would Lamar go? I say Lamar will remain for a minimum of 10 years, if not longer. I still say Lamar came running back to SLC to find it's glory days. Well, those past days are long gone.
    LeTourneau
    Abilene Christian
    LSU-Shreveport

How many good recruits would choose Lamar.

This will never happen with us in the conference. Otherwise we would win it every year and be out in 5 years.

I guess it is all relative because I have seen them when they were REALLY good.  Since I KNOW that they are not what they used to be, it may be the reason why they did not impress me much at all.  On the other hand, If you don't know much about the programs, then they may look great to some, but not to me. Yates does not impress me either, and I watched them again Wednesday night, and they struggled against a very average Houston Waltrip team, which I do realize can sometimes happen. They are no pushover, by no stretch of the imagination, but they are very beatable, even on a their best nights. One game at a time, though...Central is on deck.

When were they really good? Jessie Duffield era? (late)William "Toothpick" Johnson, or maybe (name slips my mind but played at U of H post Phi Slama Jama.

Since hearing about this kid a couple of years back and all of his attitude problems, I am wondering where his parents are in all this.  I have been around coaching and athletes all my life and I know there can be two different kinds of parents in this situation.  Either they have no control over their kid or the parents (like the kid) feel everyone owes their kid something and cannot understand why there is a problem.  Any thoughts on this.  Also, as I understand it, he is STILL not playing as of today?  How long is his suspension?

    Indefinite!!!

His father is at every game but doesn't feel the need to discipline him...  Maybe because his father never had the skills or the athleticism his son has... and he is just as caught up in the hype as hiss soon is!!!

Brown's older brother seems to be far apart in attitude than his younger brother so it may be in the genes. I see a lot of AAU games in Texas, especially in the Houston area. The majority of kids with attitude problems have parents who are not active in their kid's social activities. I'm really surprised to hear his dad watches him play. If it was my sons, I'd beat their azz&^*es and explain to CPS later. = Child Protective Services
