Me Too!
How does Hamshire Fannett look this year? Think we can challenge Hardin-Jefferson this season ;D
-
hMM, maybe we better name the pros in European ball too!!
-
Someone mentioned "small school" and it reminded me of a question I've been wondering about. If you happened to have a kid to grow up and becomes really good in basketball & possibly D-1 material, do you have him play at a larger school or keep him at small school (2A OR 3A)?
-
I can verify that the 1970 Wheatley team out of Houston were dunking in Junior High school, actually the school was a basketball factory disguised as a school. So maybe they should not be in the poll. Those guys were super-humans.
-
I've never seen Ryan play but I did hear that the major D-1 schools were not lining up at his front door. I'm curious as to why he wasn't highly recruited? Too slow at the guard position? Or maybe the schoolPlayed at too small school?
I've been told by several insiders that coaches are now attending the AAU touRnaments santioned by the NCAAA as their primary recruiting tool. Surely Ryan is playing AAU in the major cities for exposure?

I saw a team in the area from Nederland or PN-G with some big fellas. They were probably in the 8th grade. Man, if you guys can find some good guards to match the size, that area may have some good teams for a few years. I certainly hope the big guys are playing strong competition somewhere.

I bet it was a situation that flared up because the wife found out about the girlfriend. Baseball was just in the way.

I have to admit this was our first year being involved with Little Dribblers and the only Senior team I saw was Beaumont and Hamshire-Fannett. If I remember, Beaumont had a decent Senior team with good size. The one thing I noticed about Beaumont is that they didn't have great atheletes, but good hustle to make up for this. Spurger Seniors must be a good team to beat Beaumont. Hamshire Fannett Seniors? Well thats another story.
I found out you really can't gauge your team until you began playing Regionals and you better have your weaknesses fixed by Nationals, or a a good team will exploit it.
-
Hey wait a minute! You guy's had me thinking our tennis team was worthless. I read in the paper where they won something the other day. They must not be all that bad, right?
-
Wow! Sounds like you guys ran into some good close nail-biting games up there. Congrats on a good season.

There is a yahoo group where coaches are always looking for players all over the country. There is an AAU team in the Mid-County area, but I am not sure of their age groups. I think it is selectbasketball yahoo groups

The one thing I have found out about parents is that most of us think our kids are better than everybody's kid. I remember a couple of years ago, a former pro baseball player transferred his son from another school to Lamar and he expected his son to play. Gilligan never played the guy but his dad could not figure out why his kid wasn't playing at Lamar. The kid finally transferred to a different school.
bleed I also have heard some of the same stories from local parents about how Jim Gilligan has treated their kids on the recruiting trail

Anyone have info on the Nederland Regional Tourney for the Juniors? I'm curious as to who came in 1st and 2nd place.
Thanks
-
Majors: 1st-Van Vleck
2nd place - Hamshire Fannett
Juniors: 1st-Hamshire-Fannett
2nd - Cleveland
Seniors: I think Van Vleck

I always thought the best two teams during the tournament went further. I didn't realize winning a consolation round would send you to the big show. I always thought the championship game determined the best two teams. And the co-champion would represent as well. But I guess we are living in new times now.
Nederland ends up winning the championship with a 52-40 win over Beaumont. LP and BH were to play to see will face Beaumont for the consolation championship and berth in the national tournament alongside Nederland.

6 foot 2? That kid was was every bit of 7 foot. Well it seemed he was that tall standing against the other players. I heard a rumor he was from Bay City and wasn't suppose to be in the regionals. In my own humble opinion, Van Vleck won the majors and all of us who played Van Vleck got our butts kicked by a good team.
Gulf Coast Majors have a good team. I knew we ( Hamshire-Fannett) would win the Juniors but I knew our Majors would struggle against some good teams.
The Regional tournament in Van Vleck was a joke! In majors Gulf Coast beat Cleveland by 3 and Van Vleck beat HF by 3-5 I think. Then HF beat Cleveland and Van Vleck beat Gulf Coast by 8. The story for Van Vleck was they had a kid who was 6 foot 2 probably. After the tournament was over someone said that he was 14. At the beginning of the 4th quarter during the HF GC game, Gulf Coast got disqualified. The tournament was unorganized and pathetic. Some may disagree but I say pathetic. Great job by the players of Gulf Coast and HF, you represented our area great! Good luck HF at nationals.
-
Ithink the tournament ran good until this incident with Gulf Coast and the alternate players. I don't understand the rules enough to explain what happened but I think the score was 37-25 in the 3rd quarter, and at that point in the game, Gulf Coast hadn't found an answer to stop Hamshire-Fannett. I was hoping the game would go on after all the fussing was over
Gulf Coast got disqualified because the coach was trying to give the two alternates playing time but didn't tell the bookeeper and so they only qualified 9 players that weren't alternates. Something like that.
-
So LaPorte was able to get a little revenge when it really counted this time against Barbers Hill! I like all the competition in this tourney. Hamshire-Fannett is heading to Van Vleck today. Both Majors & Juniors play tonight. I'll be back probably Saturday night and report on the teams from our area in the Van Vleck tourney.
Good luck to all the area teams
From the National Division Major tournament in Nederland last night, Port Neches beat Nederland B, Beaumont beat Barber Hill B, LaPorte beat Barbers Hill A in a great double OT battle, and Nederland A beat Lumberton.

And to think I didn't know a thing about Little Dribblers until this past January Let me predict the Kountze Tournment because I think I have seen all the teams in that region, except one.
Juniors: Kountze will win with no problems. Too athletic
Majors: Kountze will win. If Orangefield can get that big kid to rebound and control the paint, Kountze is beatable. But Kountze is going to try and beat the defense down the court. 2nd place is going to be out of TC and Orangefield.
I haven't seen the seniors play.
OK Bluedove, you're one of the few on here that post about little dribblers and i know youve watched a lot of games. Give me some predictions for the Van Vleck and Kountze regional tournaments. I gave my predictions a couple weeks ago, which was that Orangefield, Twin County, and Kountze will battle for 2 spots in all 3 age groups, i believe all 3 have a chance at all levels. Kountze and OF i think will be the top 2 in juniors. In majors i think Kountze is the favorite with Orangefield and Twin County battling for 2nd, but i think Kountze is very beatable by either team. In seniors i think its a toss up. Twin County may be a very slight favorite, but Kountze has athletes and Orangefield has some talent so i would not be surprised to see any combination of the 3 come out of that group. Unfortunately, i dont know much about the Van Vleck tournament to give any predictions, but i've seen HF and Gulf Coast in the majors and they are both very good and have a great chance. Bluedove, good luck to HF in the regional tournament, please post the scores on here and let me know how it goes, i'll post the Kountze tourney scores....

Maybe the football stadium is being improved for our soccer team and high school football games.
-
I don't think Lamar can depend only on local talent to reach their goals. A winning team is going to fill the Montagne Center, not your few local heroes. There just isn't enough local good D-1 talent to go around. Oh yeah, it seems like Lamar made a good choice. At least he has the experience in a winning D-1 program and should know what type of players he will need to succeed.
Tidwell is a great coach i'm sure. But once again typical Lamar! Hire someone that has no local ties!!!!!!!! And people want football back???????????????????? Hire another person away from here and recruit away from the area!! Yup same ole Lamar!!

I can't wait till the 2012 season. H-F will have some bragging rights with the crop of kids we will have playing. Then we'll be able to come on here and brag about our team along with the rest of the other power teams in the area ;D
