1. Congratulations to LaMarque.  You deserved the win.  Good luck in the playoffs.
You definitely have one of the toughest roads to the championship in 3A Div II.  After Coldspring, you get Navasota.  Then, with a win there, you most likely get WOS.
Good luck and see you again in preseason next year.
P.S. I am assuming we will play in Coldspring next year since we played in LaMarque this year.  I would like to apologize ahead of time for our visitors bleachers.
2. Good luck to both teams on friday.  The winner of this one has a good chance of bringing home a state title this year.  It will be another tough test for the winner next week with WOS.

Gotta go with my prediction from predistrict though.

Navasota wins state this year.

Not saying LaMarque can't beat them this week, or WOS next week, just saying in my opinion they are better than any team I have seen Coldspring play in the last 3 years, including LaMarque, WOS, Carthage in '10, or Wimberley in '11.
3. CS just can't lose what they did to graduation (QB, and RB) and be as good as they were last season. Those guys were two outstanding players at key positions.
The QB this year is a 3 year starter. Took them to Jerry's world and semi finals. Lost 2 running backs from last year. Gilbert was the main ball carrier, very quick and extremely fast, but not much power. His replacements this year are not as fast, but much more power. The biggest weapon CS has is a sophomore and has only got the ball late in the game because he starts at LB. Best running back CS has had for years.
Good luck to both teams Friday, and someone please keep the game thread updated. Having thanksgiving at the deer lease and no radio coverage or Internet. Have to get updates on iPhone.

BC can win this game But it will take a major effort on their part....I still say Coldspring IS NOT THE Hoss they WER"E  ...... 8)

Coldspring defense is not as powerful as they were last year, but offense is better.  Of course if they get beat by a very good LaMarque team, or an extremely good Navasota team, you will be on here saying "see I told you they weren't that good".  Go bounce a basketball :'( :'(

Nice to see the rattlers show up on here. Been trying to get on the downlow but bans my email. >:( I have to be honest. Against Navasota Coldspring was not tackling well at all. They really sucked trying to arm tackle. Also we couldn't hold on to the football. We have improved dramatically. Would love a rematch, but have to win 2 games first starting with Bridge City.

Yes, I was telling my dad that I sure hope that we don't have to run into Coldspring in the playoffs....

Yeah, and everyone from Coldspring has been routing against Taylor all year, hoping Navasota would go DI.  Can't wait for Friday for the playoffs to start.

Round 4 for WOS would be Navasota, LaMarque, or Coldspring.  Which ever of these 3 makes it out.
There's some on your list that won't make the 4th round... ;)
Only 1 of those teams can possibly make the 4th round. They will have to knock out the other 2 to get there.

does WOS play the winner?
Unless Huffman gets beat, WOS will play the winner.
If Huffman loses and Cleveland wins, then Cleveland plays Silsbee and Shepherd gets WOS.
Either way, WOS should not have much trouble.  They would blow out Shepherd bad, and put a pretty good whippin on Cleveland.  The biggest difference is that Cleveland plays much rougher and dirtier, and might cause WOS some issues with injuries that would hurt them later in the playoffs.  They tried everything they could to take out Coldspring players last week.

I'll reserve predicting how far WOS will go in the playoffs till after the Silsbee game. If they shutout Silsbee or hold them to 7 points, then I say they have as good a shot at a title as any of the teams mentioned in the earlier posts. No way Coldspring has as good of team as they had last year without Gilbert. This year's scores reflect that. No way last year's team loses to LCM. I'll say whoever comes out of Region 3 this year gets the title.

Have you seen them play?
What scores prove that CS is worse this year than last?
The LCM game was a bust.  The whole team played like crap.  Had a pre-season all-state lineman pick hurt his knee in the 1st quarter and get carried off the field.  He is a leader on the team and with him sitting on the bench, you could see the breath go out of the team.  They played like crap and with a little help from the refs got their butts handed to them.  Other than that game, and the stomping that Navasota put on them, they have played better against every other school they have faced.  I can assure you, that this year's offense is better than last year's.

Well let's just do some score comparisons from this year and last year.

District games

                                '11                        '12
Shepherd            59-0                      69-7
Tarkington          67-8                      51-0
Splendora            67-0                      55-7
Huffman              20-3                      60-21
Liberty                68-13                    68-16
Cleveland            61-0                      37-17
                            ------                      --------
                        342-24                    340-68
                avg.  57 - 4                      56.7 - 11.3

Coldspring scored more points in 3 games last year than they did this year. CS scored more points in 2 games this year. They scored the same amount in the Liberty game both years.

I think CS offense was better last year, but not by much. But, last year's defense was much better than this years defense.
CS defense was better last year, but not as much as the numbers show.  Most of the points scored this year were on the second string.  1st string normally gives up one drive for a touchdown and then locks it down tight.  The rest of the points come with the backups in.  This year, Barbay has pulled the starters earlier.  Last year they were playing till the middle to end of the 3rd quarter.  This year most games have seen them out at halftime.
The passing game has definitely improved this year from last, and will make the offense much more potent come playoff time.  Can't just load up and stop the run anymore.  There are at least 4 receivers that could burn you at any time.
