  1. If Brook can stop the run and keep Hill and Chenier at or under 100 yards each then Brook should win. Sterling does not have a strong passing game and cannot stretch the field to loosen up the D.

If Sterling D shows up and plays solid run and pass defense then they have a chance at squeaking in a win.

Gotta feel for Hill and Chenier, if Sterling had just an average passing game, teams would have to show a little respect and then you would be looking at a team that can make the playoffs do possibly do something.  If they had a slightly above average or above average passing game then I could see them with a chance to go 2-3 rounds deep in the playoffs.

  2. Pass defense has not been tested yet.  GCM had open receivers on a couple plays but had too much pressure to execute.  Clear Brook is a run first, 2nd and 3rd team so we probably won't get tested this week either.  It would be nice to have played a pass happy team in non-district so that we are able to make adjustments, if any, prior to district.

  3. Coach Gareri sure is doing a good job of changing the mindset of this program.  An offensive minded HC that stays in attack mode coupled with a DC out for blood can be seen in the players attitude and aggressiveness.

It is nice to see the stands packed and overall excitement.  Granted we beat probably one of the worst Lee teams in recent history, a GCM team that is not as good as last year and a 4A team.  But wins are what this program needed to go along with the new attitude up top.

Looking forward to this weeks game against a 6A team.

  4. RSS had 3

LP had 2, both solid, although the one who started the game was definitely better than the other.

I think PAM had 2 and both looked ok throwing the ball.  Running threat is what is going to help loosen the D.

MacArthur had 2 and neither looked like they could start on any of the other teams.

GCM and LEE QB's were impressive and are running threats.

  5. 7 on 7 is fun competition but success doesn't always translate to wins during the season.  It is great for the RSS program to experience some success to go along with the very positive changes being made by Gareri and his staff.  This will help motivate them during the offseason.

7 on 7 can also be misleading.  A defensive player dives to barely touch a players back at the 1 yard line would be a TD during the season.  Instead the team gets the ball at the 1 yard line and has a limited field to work with resulting in turning the ball over on downs and no score.

What 7 on 7 will do for you is help in identifying which receivers are going to run solid routes and fight for a ball in the air.  If they won't fight for it now where full contact is not allowed, you can bet they are not going to fight for it under the Friday night lights.  It also helps identify which QB's can think, make good reads and deliver the ball on time without having to worry about pressure.  If they can't in 7 on 7, they won't under the lights.

PAM secondary looks good.  PAM offense will be fine once the season starts as we all know the coverage will loosen up when you have a running threat at QB.

Both GCM and Lee have plus QB's.  Lee receivers had drops and difficulty getting separation.

Crosby has some work to do offensively with the loss of their seniors.

Aldine MacArthur was way over matched.

RSS receivers had too many drops.

LaPorte offensive skill positions are a plus for this team.  Both QB's were strong and released quickly. Receivers got separation and displayed the best hands of all the teams in the tournament.  Hard to judge LaPorte's D.  RSS played them very close but it may be a different story if it was full contact.

Ranking the teams in the tournament from District 21-6A

    Offense - LP, RSS, PAM

    Defense - PAM, LP, RSS

GCM, Crosby, LEE, MacArthur would probably go in that order.

  6. Not the DC.  It was one of the defensive coaches but not the DC.  Coach Carter moved on to Pearland Dawson.  This guy is a rising star.  The kids would run through a brick wall for this guy and then ask where the next wall is.  I have heard from many people that they would love for Coach Carter to be the next head coach at RSS.  He is the type of guy that kids WANT  to play for, they WANT to work hard.  There are just not enough good things one could say about coach Carter.

This is why I wish GCCISD would have reassigned or let Addudel go since he has stated this is his last year.  Whoever the new coach is next year will bring in a lot of his own guys.  I do not blame coaches jumping ship for a better or more stable situation.
  7. I think there was only 1 ref that ever threw a flag.  We were hoping that he would tear off a couple pieces to share with the other guys.  :)

I thought they could have called pass interference a lot more than they did.  Maybe they just let a little more of that go during 7 on 7.  There were also a ton of false starts that were not called.
  8. I know 7 on 7 does not mean a ton but for RSS this was big for their morale.  Having a new OC and going to a pro set offense has the kids displaying a bit of excitement they havent had in a while.  This small taste of success can do nothing but change the culture.

They still have a long way to go to be able to beat the top teams in District.  But with continued improvement hopefully they can at least be in some of the games.
