  1. I dont know much about Buna, but I hear West Hardin beat them last year.Is that true?Just asking.Warren and Deweyville both beat West Hardin and both have lots of returning starters.Buna will learn quickly their are some good teams in 2-a.E/C has to be the favorite until someone knocks them off,Anuahac will be solid and Warren and Deweyville will be real close. How did Hardin do last year?Havent heard much from them?

  2. I know Buna was in a brutal district last year, but I dont see a playoff caliber team yet.Ithink the top 2 spots are E/C and Anauhac and the fnal spot will be a toss up between Deweyville and Warren. Both of them made the playofs last year and have lots of returning starters.Winning the ones they should win at home and injuries will determine how this last playoff spot turns out.JMO

  3. Colmesneil fan,Your not gonna upset me I dont have anyone playing in this district.I watched Groveton,West Sabine,Colmesneil, Hull Daisetta and West Hardin last year. While I dont know how many kids any of them lost to graduation I know West Hardin has just about all of them coming back. They were as good last year as Groveton or West Sabine and just got better by playing a brutal schedule for a small school. If they stay healthy with Letsinger,Simmons etc they will more than hold their own in any 1-A district in football and basketball.Hull Daisetta will also be pretty solid but I think they will play for the second spot. From there down it will be pretty even.I guess we will just have to disagree on this one and look back next fall to see who is right.I wish Colmesneil the best because I am partial to Tyler county kids.Good luck to yall

  4. I have a lot of respect for Hull Daisetta but West Hardin has as good a Senior group coming back as anyone around.I am not from West Hardin but everyone else in this district is playing for second. In the other district I havent seen Lovelady so I cant even pick that one, however Groveton is usually pretty good.Dont know what graduation did to them.JMO

  5. Altofan, Dont overlook the West Hardin Oilers our boys played them and Groveton last year and both teams will be very good in 1-A ball.Groveton will be the only team in 23a that can even stay on the field with West Hardin. They have Letsinger coming back at QB along with all their skill players and most of their linemen. They more than held their own in 2-A last year so dont snooze when you play them.H/D will also be better than most of the teams in 23A other than Groveton. In 23a I would give the nod to Groveton,Burkeville and West Sabine.Chester will also have a couple of kids to keep an eye on in Jake Flowers and Brock Mahaffey.I am not downing Colmesneil but the didnt have a whole lot last year, baseball is still the king up there.JMO

  6. All successful programs have one thing in common-DISCIPLINE-you simply dont win in playoff games without it.While kids will always have multiple interest ,to be successful the sport you play has to have your undivided attention ,at least during your practise time.Geez if Lumberton couldnt agree to wear the same shirt to practise no wonder they struggled.Best of luck to the new skipper down there.Just let him do his job you may be surprised at the results.

  7. Dont overlook Warren this season. They graduated some of their offensive lineman but most of their skill players are back. They will have a solid QB in Granger and one of the best RB in the distict in Esway a first team all district WR in Word and almost the entire defense.Did Deweyville graduate their QB?I know Thomas will be back at E/C so they should be the favorites. My picks:

    E/C

    Anahuac

    Warren-Deweyville (toss up)

    Buna

    Hardin

    Kountze

  8. I dont know anything about the Lumberton position in particular but coaches can definitely kill a baseball program. If all the emphasis is put on a different sport and baseball is ignored then you gradually see your better players taking up other interest. This is not intended for the Lumberton coach because I have never seen his team play.I have however seen it locally in the district we live in.

  9. Coach, I meant no disrespect for the Deweyville kids.I was just pointing out Deweyvilles record this year was a result of injuries and a tough district.Deweyville will have some quality kids returning ,in my opinion Caleb and Jacob will be hard to replace in the backcourt.I have watched you coach for several years and always noticed your teams were well prepared even if outmatched.I spoke with you briefly at the H/D track meet and offered best wishes and I still wish you well.Good luck also to the Pirates in what will still be 1 of the toughest 2A districts in the state.

  10. Its really not fair to these kids to talk about D1 players as sophomores.Their alot of good young players out there but they are still light years away from D1 status.JaCovan has tons of talent and he will grow up.He will probably have the best shot eventually at a D1 school.

  11. Warren was missing their starting PG ,missed 3 weeks with a severe ankle sprain and their starting post man who missed 3 weeks with a broken hand. They started 5 sophomores in that game.Jacob was limping but did play.I dont think the team you will see on the court for Warren next year will look anything like the 1 you saw at Spurger, however 1 of the sophs at spurger did have 29 points. The Bland kid for Deweyville is gonna be solid but I still believe the two best players on their team were the Jackson kids and given the chance Larry would have made them competetive.JMO

  12. Deweyville was young this year and suffered a severe injury to one of their best players that crippled them.I dont see them being any better if the 2 Jackson boys play in Chireno.I have said it before ,coaching was not the probleem in Deweyville. They were just in a really tough district. One thing is for sure, you dont get better by losing your 2 best players and that is what has happened at Deweyville.

  13. Not sure what you meant by being Co MVP being a crock.Brittany was a great player and deserved all state recognition, but if you are implying the Spears girl did not deserve Co MVP honors I would have to respectively disagree. This girl carried a very young team the entire year averaged somewhere around 28 a game and could rebound with any 3a player I ever watched.I am not from HJ however I saw her play on several occasions. The last time against Silsbee she had 30 points and 18 boards. The young lady carries herself with class and has DEFINITELY earned whatever awards she wins.Any D1 schools looking to turn around a program could definitely look at her.I dont know the Sanders girl but that is an awesome accomplishment to be named all state and academic all state. This will be hands down the toughest girls district in the state next year.Congrats to all.
