  1. I could see Duane taking a job at a 4-a school to coach basketball, but I don't think he would leave Kountze to go to Anahuac. If he's looking for a higher profile b-ball job the timing would certainly be right. With his resume he would be in demand on the hardwood.
  2. I didn't care who got it.I just think if you select an all district team it should consist of your best players.I'll say it again ,if the Warren club was going to get an all district pitcher and outfielder it should have been Swinney and West. While the 2 freshmen are gonna be solid players in the future they simply were not as good this year as the upperclassmen that were bypassed.Swinney won 2 of the 4 games Warren won in district play. The first in Hardin and the 2nd a 14-1 win at Kountze. Why he didn't pitch the last game against Kountze no one will ever know.Pitchers are usually selected on W-L,strikeouts and ERA. Theses stats must not have been considered this year in these picks.I guarantee ya if you were gonna play a game for money in Warren that Swinney,West,Parker and Babino would be the first players picked.Wilson and Harrington are gonna be very good players and should be proud of there season. This post is in know way downing them,I just think a few upperclassmen were slighted by an outgoing coach.JMO.Congrats to all the kids who made the team and good luck to the Cougars the rest of the way.
  3. We'll keep ya posted.I saw Daniel Marsh playing with the Tarkington club tonight in Lufkin. If he goes over there Tarkington goes to contender in that district immediately.
  4. Kountze starts June 4 plays every Monday thru July 19th
  5. I didn't think Warren would get many picks after going 4-8. I would have thought had they gotten any it would have been there best players however.Must not have had many put up by the coach. No knock on the two that made it but if you take a pitcher and an outfielder off the Warrior club West and Swinney were by far the best 2 at those positions.Warren had some really good position players but you gotta have pitching depth for the team to be successful.Definitely a slap in the face of some pretty good upperclassmen.(West,Swinney,Parker,Babino and Rawls to name a few). Not the first odd thing to happen to the Warrior baseball club this year, just the most recent.
  6. Great news for a good kid.Congrats
  7. Don't forget the guy from Buna.He is doing a really good job with a fairly young team.
  8. Who is Riccossa?I have seen all these kids playing tournament ball except him and Sungren. Burrell,Bernard,Payne and Weldon are all gonna be very good, keep your eye on Fontenot he is gonna surprise some people.Lil Stevie is also gonna be a huge addition. This will be a fun team to watch next year(can you say PRESSURE)
  9. Congrats guys.Woulda loved to see T Word go out with a title after goin 2 years in a row.2nd in the state ain't to shabby.Good job also to Coach Shroeder and Zach.
  10. The original thread started as to what has happened to Buna's basketball team. There is nothing contradictary about it.Buna has made an effort to build there baseball and football programs under the current staff.Had they dedicated that effort to putting a good basketball team on the floor and hired a strong basketball coach to continue the direction the program was heading when Harrison and Brewster left they would still be pretty solid. The drop to 2-a should have benefited them in every sport including basketball.I'm not knocking there current coach,I just think they decided to take there athletic program in a different direction. That decision usually rest with the AD.So to answer the original question, with a top notch coach the 400 kids available at Buna could compete with the much smaller schools in there district.
  11. Warren will have to find a replacement for Esway but the cupboard is far from bare.Defensively they have a lot of returners.McBee will do well at QB and Morris and Dalton will fill the TB role nicely if they stay healthy.Hear TJ says this will be his fastest club ever after looking at the 40 times this spring.EC wins it 2-5 will depend on who stays healthy. It will be fun every week.
  12. My point exactly, why are DVILLE 230 students better basketball players than Bunas 400?Because the emphasis is on other sports at Buna.
  13. Heck the Kountze league will be 24-aa with Kountze,Warren,Buna,Hardin and Anahuac from what I'm hearing.
  14. 2 QUICK,You growin that stuff you smokin or buyin it off the street ??? ??? ???Hawk60 you better put lil stevie on your radar and move Fontenot way up your list. These 2 are gonna be legit when they get in HJ system.HJ will miss Donahoes ability to take over the scoring when a game is on the line but they will actually be a better defensive club. And I think there is an old adage about defenses winning championships.
  15. Does anyone know anything about Troup? Is it a 3 game series or 1 game playoff?I'm pulling for the Cougars but can't make a prediction without knowing anything about Troup.
  16. They will no doubt be well coached and Copeland will do well.If he moves to the point it may hurt his offensive production. If they had anyone 6'4" I didnt see him.The Oilers had a great run this year but I think a playoff spot next year will be extremely tough. If they play 500 ball the coach will be a coach of the year candidate.Their district will be very good next year with HD,Big Sandy and Spurger all returning lots of folks.
  17. I think Warren,Kountze and EC are gonna be a lot closer than most people think.Warren is a little deeper with returning players but Thomas will make EC the pre season favorite. While Kountze will be strong they are basically starting over.I think Deweyville will be a little ahead of Hardin simply because Hardin graduated heavy and Deweyville has Bland and Jackson to build around.
  18. Yep, everyone is tied as of right now ;)
  19. Don't leave out the Beck brothers from Woodville. They have been gone 3 or 4 years but both could flat bring it.Both signed pro deals and could throw in the 90's.
  20. Congrats guys!!!! How did these guts wind up on different teams??
  21. Every team in the area will eventually face what BC did, they lost their entire team to graduation and basically started over. They will be better next year.I would have to say Burrell and Jarvis from HJ will definitely be 2 of the best.HJ has a ton coming back.
  22. Very admirable actions for a group of young ladies to support their coach in that manner. These young ladies will remember Coach Ancelot long after the memories of the final scores have faded.Best of luck to both Coach A and the Cats.
  23. I guess thats my point.Buna still has one of the largest 2-a enrollments compared to much smaller schools in the same district.Warren,E/C and Deweyville all 3 have considerably less students than Buna.So I guess my question is why are 350 students at these 3 schools better basketball players than the 420 at Buna?It all comes down to how much emphasis the coaching staffs put on the sport. The good teams are the ones that follow the coaches system with the belief they will be successful and then work in the off season and summer to make it happen.I have witnessed this first hand at Warren over the past few years. We had some tremendous talent over the years and were lucky to win 8-10 games a year. Two very good coaches turned this program around and they have won 64 games in the last 3 years. If Buna commits to there baskeball program they will be successful,if they don't they will have a pretty solid football and Baseball team.Depending on the school sometimes thats what folks want.
  24. I'm backing 24aa but I think Hemphill will be ready due to a tougher district.I say Hemphill in 3.
  25. I'm pulling for Anahuac but Central Heights wins it in 2.They play in a lot tougher district so they should be ready for the playoffs.
