HARDIN VS. ANAHUAC who will win??
whsalum replied to HORNET_HIVE72's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think the difference will have to come from Hardins defense.Last year I felt sorry for them, they just got beat up.Esway had 200 yards at halftime. They will score some points this year but I don't think they will stop many folks in 24aa.I think Anahuac takes this one in a high scoring game. -
When Hardin shows up they can be pretty solid, they must have some young guns because they can be inconsistant. They will be pretty solid once they settle in after football season.I gotta say HJ is the best team I've seen this summer,no disrespect to Silsbee or Kountze but HJ has a couple of new kids that can play. They are gonna miss Ryan but they are being underestimated by lots of folks.Them and Silsbee are gonna be fun to watch.

Lumberton has been playing all summer, as matter of fact they played this past weekend in Silsbee. No disrespect to WH but I don't think they have a playoff run in them this year much less 2 or 3 deep.Copeland is a very good young player but that district is gonna be real good this year.Big Sandy,Spurger and Hull are all returning lots of folks off already good teams. This late in the year I just don't see many name coaches moving.Jason Henry is a super young coach who works wonders with what he has.I knew the class didn't dictate pay scale, just figured the tax base in Lumberton would allow for higher salaries.

Top Basketball Coach Besides Boutte in the area?
whsalum replied to InTheGates's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
When you look at these list it's no surprise why there are always local teams at the drum. Two small school coaches who are often overlooked are Hank Hargraves from EC and Cris Carter from Warren.Hank did a great job the past 3 years but was unfortunate to have Kountze in his region(and district)while Carter has 2 stae appearances and 1 championship on his resume. He also notched his 500th carrer win last year and is still fairly young as a coach. Both these guys do very well with the hand they are given. -
I would be very surprised to see Henry leave Lumberton. He has been at every summer game Lumberton has played this year and while they won't be a power in 4-a they won't be terrible either.WH will struggle and may make it tough on a coaches resume. Not sure the 1-a school could compete with the 4-a salary, but then again stranger things have happened.
-
I think they lost 4 off the defense, but they will actually still be solid on that side of the ball.On the offensive side it may be tougher. They lost a lot of skill players and a real good center.QB-Granger,RB-Esway,WR-West,Word and Mitchell,TE-Rawls,Center-Evans.Ramsey does a good job but he will have his work cut out for him on that side of the ball.
-
While we're not talking about them let's not mention Payne,Fontenot or Guillory. They probably don't deserve any props either : : :

I saw that Big Sandy was short of players so I didn't stay.It would have been a pretty good game had they had all their guys.Silsbee looks pretty good and should win this weekends tournament if they play up to their potential.Dawg, Warren hasn't had all their players at a game this whole summer. No excuses just a fact and believe it or not they didn't shoot the ball as well against Kountze has they have in several other games this summer. You are certainly entitled to your opinion,I hope you overlook Warren next season.

Donahoe vs Thomas vs Brown ( Triple Threat)
whsalum replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
JCovan would probably win a one on one,but if they get in a shooting contest you better put your money on Donahoe. He was often overlooked in that regard but he can flat out shoot it. -
I saw them earlier this summer at one of the hoopinsider tourneys, they didn't even resemble the club from last year.It looked to me like they were starting over.
-
Not alot of coaches left available now.Really feel for Copeland. But you can't blame Fuller for the move. You gotta go when the timing is right in that business.
-
Marsh will help them at the RB but last year they just got beat up.I don't know if a new coach can fix that,I guess we will have to wait and see.Good luck to the Hornets.
-
The final was 19-3 so the halftime score couldn't have been 12-6,McBee did play some of the second half and broke off several pretty good runs.Warrens "D"will be there strength this year. Not sure if they will be one of the top but they won't be bad.
-
I don't know who will start at that position,I was just going by what I have seen in the past.I don't remember Casey being very big.Thats why I said Riley may start. Both can catch the ball and I'm sure both kids will get lots of playing time.Warren will run the ball alot so it will definitely help to have a good blocking tight end.
-
Actually they beat them by 4 in OT, but Silsbee has to be the favorite.I don't know which club is which for the tigers they have 1 in each side of the bracket but there varsity club is gonna be real. Also they will be playing at home.Warren still has several kids out of town but there playing pretty well right now.

Players to watch in 24-1A
whsalum replied to West_hardin_17_13's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There is also a rule in some cases where the school he's leaving has to release him.We had a kid last year who had lived in the district all his life but went to school in another town where his mother worked. The district would not release him and he had to sit out 1 year before he could play in the district he lived in.Gotta love some of the UIL rules. -
You don't have to be the strongest guy in the weight room to be a hoss.McBee probably should be a safety but playing at A 2-A school he plays outside linebacker.Don't be fooled ,this kid will bring it with the best of em.He will also play QB for the Warriors so he may have to take a few plays off on one side of the ball or the other.Pretty good speed and very good nose for the ball.

OK what away games do you hate to go to,and why?
whsalum replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Anahuac- Just because of the mosquitos. They can be brutal if the weather hasn't been cold. Also not many places to eat on the way home. -
BestRB to ever come out of your school ?
whsalum replied to txsundevils's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Tal Light was a good one,I also liked Glen Harrod. He was solid for little guy in a tough district. -
Warren hasn't had alot of names at the QB but Coach Ramsey seems to really be doing a good job recently developing some pretty good ones.Granger last year was solid, but the best one to play at Warren was Jarred Wallace.I think he is still playing college ball.
-
I would think Blake Riley would be the Warriors tight end this year but I could be wrong, both will be good young players.I think both were on the JV last year and there will be worlds of difference. These guys have good hands and Warren throws to the tight end alot. McDonald has to be the best in the district. He has the size and good hands. Can't wait to watch some football, good luck to all the local teams.
-
Marcus Malbrough will be a good returning starter ,not sure if they much to go with him. They entered a couple of teams in one of the hoopinsider tournaments that weren't real strong.May be a tough year at the 5-a level.
-
I think the Evadale tourney usually falls on the same weekend as the Big Sandy Tourney.Last year it had HJ,Liberty,Hampshire Fannett and Bridge City in it from the 3-a level. It had EC,Warren,Deweyville and Anahuac from the 2-a side. The Zavalla tournament always has a strong field in with Diboll,Huntington and Kelly just to name a few.I wouldn't mind seeing Warren in the BS tourney,it's a great basketball school with good folks running it.We used to play over there every year, not sure when that changed, but it would be fun.

That's hard to believe after he turned down an offer from SFA.I hope he winds up at a D1 school but it is getting late in the recruiting game.Good luck Ryan.
