Most improved team next season??
whsalum replied to HFlonghorn1992's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think Kountze will have the biggest turnaround. They were real young last year and were not that far from being a playoff club last year. They have a lot of speed in the skill positions. They could very easily get a playoff spot this year. -
Pantherfan, The Warren kid's dont even get on this site, with the exception of Matt every once in a while. These kids know they don't have a playoff spot locked up.They are a typical summer leauge team, they play pretty well when all the kids show up,which has been once this summer.I totally agree with you about the district race all the spots will be open.Summer league games are good only to keep the kids in the gym ,nothing more nothing less. You are right on about WH ,Tyler is gonna be a lot of fun to watch but losing Letsinger,Simmons and Tomlinson is gonna be devastating this year.I think EC will be the district favorite this year in 24aa but EC,Kountze,Warren,Deweyville,Hardin and Anahuac will all be capable of beating each other. This race will come down to the 3 teams that can pull out a few wins on the road.

Actually I did know what Ozen did this year with a young team.I know several of the kids that are coming back this season ,good kids.I have nothing against Ozen or Boutte just an unbiased observation.I am not from Ozen or HJ.I watched every game at this years state tourney but 1.I saw some very good coaching moves in every division 1a thru 5a.Boutte did a super job getting the panthers to the finals.I just happen to think there were a few coaches there that did a better job in the championship games.Don't put the "they" label on me just because I happen to disagree with you.Boutte is super coach but there are more than a few out there that understand the game as well as he does. You gotta admit having some talent doesn't hurt.Makes for a lively topic for the off season don't it.
-
In strictly district games Tramain will have the most rushing yards from the QB position.Warren and Deweyville both graduated real good running backs but both return lots of folks on the line and pretty solid young backs ready to move up.I also think the young tailback from EC is gonna be the next marquis player in the district.
-
Ozen should win simply because they have a deeper talent pool to draw from.I don't buy the superior coaching.I watched both clubs in Austin this year and the better coached team this year wasn't from the pear orchard.
-
Deweyville beat Warren by 9 at Deweyville(not sure thats a spanking) 10 days after Warren beat them by 20 on a neutral court.Warren won 3 out of 4 by 20,14 and 26.I wasn't downing Deweyville just stating a fact.In the loss Warren got in early foul trouble and never got out of it,they were called for 7 charges that took points off the board (by the same official)never seen that before.I think the district is gonna be real exciting next year.Anyone that comes out flat next year will be in for a long night.Good luck to all the 24aa clubs
-
While Kountze and EC will definitely be solid you may be selling Warren a little short. They beat Anahuac last year 3 times by 17,18 and 17. Deweyville by 20,14 and 26 and Buna twice by 15 and 24.Anahuac will have Rivon to build around and Deweyville will have Bland and Jackson back (I hear) so they should be better.Hardin will have Marsh.Overall the district should be pretty close. While Anahuac could improve with a new coach I don't think the playoff teams are gonna change much.JMO

They will be very competetive even though they lost a very good running back.Their JV group was bigger than their varsity and were pretty darn good themselves.I hope they get to play at the new place this year.

Warren played a completely different style of ball last year where alot of times their outside shooters wouldn't take but 3 or 4 shots a game.Granger was a really good football player but there were several kids on Warrens club that were as good or better bball players.Warrens top 3 scorers (Sims,Granger and Andrews) were seperated by less than 20 points. The biggest difference was all of Grangers cames from in the paint while Andrews favors the mid range jumper and Sims shoots the 3 ball.Neither Warren kid has been rated although Sims is on the players to watch list.I do know he has hit 134-3 pointers and shot 82% from the free throw line over the last 2 seasons. His biggest fault on the court is he is TO unselfish,I,ve seen him light it up for 25 or 30 on lots of occasions.Your right though, Brown and Thomas are the big dogs in the pack.Might also want to keep an eye on Jarvis Bernard from HJ, he is a game changer.
-
Warren doesn't have a Vance- he plays for EC.
-
Brown is probably the best all around player to come thru se texas in years. He has the complete package, I have watched him several times this year and have been impressed.Sometimes I think he gets criticized just a bit simply because he's JCovan. Thomas is close second ,great kid and super athelete.Penetrates as well as JB but doesnt shoot quite as well as JCovan from behind the arc. Both these guys will have super senior seasons.
-
These kids play alot bigger than they are. They will be fine.

Who thinks Kountze will make the playoffs.
whsalum replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think they will be in the hunt for the 3rd spot.I think EC has to be the favorite with Buna a close second.D-ville,Warren and Kountze will all be in the picture.Anyone snoozes in the district next year could get a rude awakening.Should be very close 2 thru 5. -
Knight eager for Bridge City challenge

He will do fine.BC was just plain young last year after graduating everyone off a really good team the year before. The district will be brutal but the overall record will definitely improve.I hope we continue our series with them.Good luck cards. -
They might if he brought Yao and McGrady with him ;)
-
I heard earlier this spring it was coming open. Can't confirm it but the guy who told me is a Buna resident.
-
My bad ,I keep wanting to call Jeff , Jamie.Anyway the big guy next to Clay.I have watched all 3 HJ coaches in the past and they would definitely get my vote as the best staff.I'm telling ya from watching Fontenot and Stevie this summer playing with several of the returners they are gonna be pretty dang good.State Champs??? who knows, but the title is theirs until someone takes it.I still like there chances.I'm with DickieV, LETS GET IT STARTED.
-
If there is a better staff from top to bottom than HJ I haven't seen it.Todd,Clay and Jamie have all been successful on there own. When you put them together they don't miss much.I'm not from HJ so I guess thats just an opinion but I have watched a lot of basketball in this area over the past 50 years and I haven't seen a better staff.Maybe your research will prove me wrong.
-
Lots of things have to go your way in the playoffs to even get to Austin. It's easier to win it once you get there than it is to get there. While Ryan was the main cog overall they will still be very good.Ryan just took games over last year when he had to,this year they will have to spread it around to be successful.Defensively I think they will actually be better with Burrell,Jarvis,Fontenot,Stevie,Weldon and Payne all being outstanding in the press. The key on the offensive end will be to share the ball.Mix this with the best coaching staff in the area and the title is theirs until someone takes it.I like there chances.
-
Paul Sims shot 82% for the season.Shot 85-106 through the regular season and was 7-7 in the playoffs.Warrens returning players shot 74% from the free throw line.
-
Thats a great average. How many did he shoot?

Lin Ellis Leaves Warren For Pasadena

Best of luck coach. The girls had a rough year but could have easily been a playoff contender with several close loses.I know the girls will miss Lin as well as the boys cross country team.Regardless of the outcome Lin always had the kids best interest in mind -
Great to hear from ya again big guy.Lookin forward to your reports on next years eagles.
