  1. Depends on a lot of things!! I know WH isn't near as weak as everyone had thought they would be. Had many chances to beat Groveton, just couldn't capitalize. Haven't seen Warren but know from watching and playing against them for many years, they're scrappy and will be ready to fight for the W the whole game. Haven't been too many blow outs in these two teams long history, I Can't wait!! Go Oilers!!
  2. I'll have to take WO-S as a heavy favorite. They just knocked off a 4-A team ranked as high as they were in 3-A and with the momentum, the Stangs roll. Good luck to both. Hope it is a great, hard faught game. P.S. I love underdogs! (Go LCM!)
  3. Yep. WH had ball on the 12 and just couldn't punch it in. Too many penalties. Close game, can't wait to see WH-HD!!
  4. I was really impressed with WH as a whole. They completely shut down Colmesneil except for 1 broken play against the 2nd stringers. They pretty much did what they wanted on offense and allowed under 30 yards in 2 series (sans the long TD run). Legacy has some great athletes but they are just too inexperienced. They couldn't hold Colmesneil, and couldn't really drive on them, just a few long dashes resulting from legacy's speed at their skill positions. When Legacy played WH in the two quarters "game situation" it was 26-0 (2 misses PAT's). Legacy's persuit angles were terrible. The players showed great enthusiasm, but would at not always at the right time. I'm looking forward to WH-HD again. They both faired similarly to New Waverly. HD shouldn't have a problem with Legacy Christian. West Hardin, on the other hand, will have their hands full against Groveton in what will be a real test for them. I think they will do much better than they did last year against them, and with any luck, a win for WH. Its Football Season SETX!!! [move]Go Big Blue!!![/move]
  5. Though not very dramatic, it was one of our only wins that season. I was a Junior and it was homecoming at West Hardin. We were playing Deweyville. I was usually an iron man and special team player, but I had hyper extended my knee a week prior and playing in a leg brace that kept my right leg straight (so it looked pretty funny when I ran), but I was playing QB. I threw for over 200 yards that game and 2 td's agains their eight man front(weird D, but they made you decide quick and pressed your WR's). We fought back from being down 8-0 to win 18-14. But the most memorable part had to be when a close friend talked to me at halftime. He said, "He's here!! He's really here! My dad came to watch me play!!" His dad had came to watch his son play ball for the first time. Well it worked out perfectly. We were down by 2, late in the fourth and he was my read. The corner lined up on him tight and inside, so he was to run a fade. He gave the best fake of his life, and juked an athlete that had smothered him all game. He caught the ball in stride and went 60+ yards for the score. He was so happy, he had tears in the endzone, holding the ball up, glaring in the stands toward his dad. P.S. My most unmemorable game was as a Junior against H-D. As I described before, I was an all around player, so I was punting. It was late in the first quarter and it was a very bad snap. It bounced, in fact. And I didn't have time to punt, so I took off around the end. It was fourth and a mile, but surprisingly I went uncontested until I neared the 4th down marker. 2 of the H-D boys were coming in fast, so I lowered my head and laid it to the one straight ahead, as the other knocked me out of bounds. One of my buddies in the lower stands said it was one of the loudest hits he had ever heard. All I know is I stood up, smiling from making the first, and I blinked. We were riding home on the bus and I was asking a team mate what his girlfriend's name was, over and over and over. I still don't remember what happenned from the 1st quarter til the end of the game. I got knocked the &%#@$ Out!!
  6. Look at the people with the most strikeouts in the history of the game at the pro level. You will also find the greatest hitters. Striking out once and making a big deal out of it is like a great basketball player missing a 3 or a QB throwing an incompletion. .300 is a good average for a hitter and that means less than 1 of 3 times at bat you get a hit. I'm dumbfounded by the comment, didn't he strike out the first time he was at bat?? Like he stunk it up because of that. :
  7. Wow, WH is stinkin it up this year in baseball. Aww, what am I sayin, we haven't been contenders in this sport in years, unless you're talkin about little league. Oh well boys, just have fun, maybe track will be more rewarding.. and who knows, baseball might pick up once all of the basketballers get into full swing. . . :-\
  8. This would be awesome Zeek. I know several people, including myself who would even contribute to this financially if need be. Please, keep me informed on this topic, I think it would be awesome. I would imagine there would be several scouts attending this one, just to see all of the local talent. They'd be crazy not to.
  9. I have to agree. That is a strategy to win that a lot of school coach's utilize, but only because it is a part of the game. I think they should do it. Yeah, it costs money, but so did the play clocks in he football game this past year. And those clocks couldn't be much more expensive than a few basketballs. It would make the game more exciting and take away the cheeseballer effect (sitting on the ball with a five point lead) for a whole quarter. At least 35 sec. or so like the college level. And I disagree its nothing like kneeling on the ball with a few ticks left, or an intentional walk. It is more like having a 5 minute play clock in football. IF you score a time or two, you'll probably win. True, coach's use it because its a part of the game and a coach is all about utilizing strageties and and preparing players mentally and physically for the game, even if it means manipulating ghe rules of the game. Like the game West Sabine lost to Broaddus. The final score looked like a base ball score all because one team got out to a five point lead. And no I'm not just sore at Martin's Mill for doing it to WH.
  10. No, I agree JCfan. I wish they would have done better and improved on the talent they had, but the fact of the matter was that they were kind of hard to watch just because, like you say, they weren't improving during the season for reasons unknown to me. I'm not trying to be the bad guy here, I just got started typing and the next thing you know, I was on my soap box. WH is my home. I've always seen it this way. If I didn't care about it, I wouldn't express myself at all in these matters. Hopefully next year will be better. WHalum, I know what you mean about having coach/teacher/busdriver/bombtechnicians and for 30K a year, I mean hey, we had coach Bland teaching us about Health, on matters of personal hygene. Talk about underqualified. ;D
  11. Maybe (hopefully) next year will be better. I'm hoping for the kids that this is the case. But again, if they don't win a game, that happens too. I've been on teams that didn't lose, and I've been on teams that didn't win, and the blame couldn't be solely placed on one person, nor could the praise. There were a lot of factors: A bad year for talent, not working hard in the offseason, 4 different AD's in 5 years (no consistency), no comradery, bad breaks while playing. Bottom line, we lost every game, it happens. I was just stating in my previous thread that the school board used to have power and influence in places they had no business being. True, they could only hire and fire the superintendent, but who does he have power over. 95% of the people in this community know exactly what I'm talking about. Whining parents should be getting weened off that whole, "my baby should get to play" mess in junior high. That's little league BS. Organized sports in high school has a lot of implications elsewhere, and its not an "everyone gets to play" situation. Sports are about winning with class, losing with class, working hard to attain goals and accepting failure, success, and yeah, rejection. It prepares you for what the world has to offer. If you apply for a job and you don't get the call, mommy and daddy can't complain and get you hired (for the most part). A small town has a tendency to imply its not what you know as much as it is who you know. This is morally and ethically wrong, and it seriously affects performance and hurts everyone in the long run. Even the kid who got to play and shouldn't have. Now, he/she can't deal with the fact that they need more work before they deserve this position or are just plain ol', not playing at the level needed to help their team more than the kid that got the position.. If he/she don't make it,they think,"Mommy and Daddy can fix it. They will make it all better. High school is about growing up, handling your own problems. I'm sure I'll get a lot of negative feedback on this, but I don't care. I've seen it first hand and its pitiful to see a 30 year old who still runs to their parents when they can't handle their own problems. :-\
  12. I'm thinking West Hardin will have 4-5 300lb. bench pressers next year. This is coming from a reliable source and going off of what they can do right now.
  13. What channel does this come on? and what time?? I loved the movie.
  14. Okay, I've got a friend who was looking into it. I think he's got a shot, as long as you don't have to be 260 and run a 4.4, he should be fine. He's a pretty good athlete. Where are the copperheads based out of?
  15. Copeland is a tall lanky kid with good vision. He'll have a cannon on him. His legs won't be nearly as impressive as T.Thomas. but he will be something to watch for in !-A football for the next two years. Thomas from EC is pretty amazing. That kid is someone you have to key on or you'll get burned, no two ways about it.
  16. Thanks Yak. Didn't see that one coming from you. :-*
  17. Wow!! Didn't see that one coming. Sounds like it went down like the WH game. close match through most of the way, but everything seemed to fall for Kouintze and trying to get back in the game by gambling bit them in the butt. Great season EC, really didn't see this loss coming, but great season nontheless. Kountze, bring it home baby!!
  18. A loss is always hard to accept. I think it may have been almost as hard for the fans who followed these boys all season to watch them fall today. I loved watching these boys and I was in a bad mood all the way home after the loss, but at the same time I was proud. Extremely proud to say these are the fine young men of our community. I was kind of hoping Tyler was gonna give Brandon an alley-oop off the glass late in the fourth on that fast break when the game was out of reach and let Letsinger go out with a bang, but it didn't fall that way. Great season guys. Wow, Yak, a nice post. I'm sure I speak for all of us at WH when I extend a sincere thank you.
  19. Is Goodrich considered SETX?? I would think so, I mean they are not any further north than Big Sandy but they would definately questionable about how far west they are. Just curious as to what people think. That would make 7 teams in the elite eight, but if we won't lay claim to them when they have an off year, then we shouldn't try to claim them when they are kickin butt and takin names. So the question at hand: Annex Goodrich??
  20. This is true, Goodrich is East of 59. they are SETX too. 7 Teams still goin. 7 teams from SETX are in the 6 Elite 8 brackets.
  21. All I was saying was Huntsville was looked at this year by some, as one of the best 4A teams on the state. Even magazines were referring to them as monsters and machines and they supposivley had a top 10 recruit on their team. Well, here, is this better. Good job Ozen. doin what we all thought you should anyway. Here, you can have your eye back.
