1. My cell is 409-719-7042. Give me a call when you’re concerned about deliverables or budget. If it’s a real concern, I’ll at least tell you what I know in lieu of speculation. So far, no issues with stadium portion of bond. Just can’t fit the design and construction of press box, bathrooms, seating, etc. in before Fall 2020 season. No need to rush it OR hold out on turf installation. So many programs get to benefit by moving forward with the turf - our huge 300+ band, twirlers, flags, cheer, and westernaires won’t have to stay in the stands just because it’s a mud pit on the field. These groups put hours and hours in. Thankful they’ll get to showcase their talents too.
2. No issue with the stadium budget so far for the bond. The turf is a very straightforward project and it didn’t make sense to hold it up and not let our 2021 class enjoy it just because the bathrooms, press box, seating, etc. weren’t ready to go. We’ll circle back once the other drawings are complete and work it in around spring sports. The remaining portion of the stadium bond should be completed for the 2021-2022 school year. Heavy focus right now is Elementary Schools and NHS design which includes a state of the art CTE wing. Middle schools to follow.
3. Beaumont United will be a 7pm kickoff for Varsity.
4. NHS Football Schedule. Go Dogs!
5. Good point bigdog. Design development will kickoff in June and first focus on the schools. This design effort will take several months to complete before construction can even begin (schematic design phase, detailed design phase, construction documents phase, procurement phase, & then finally construction phase). However, because installation of turf is not an overly complex scope item that is dependent on months of architectural and engineering design, I would expect turf to be down for Fall 2020. It can be installed once soccer/track ends and be ready for Fall.
6. No. That’s not what the bond proposal is similar to.
7. Really? A bronze plaque on the door? That’s what you think a bond is about? You’re joking right? We have kids in portable buildings. PNGISD is putting up a bond to level Van Buren and build new elementary schools. Using your logic, what’s wrong with Van Buren?
8. Are you implying you'd be against a $100MM bond too (#5 - #10 = approx $100MM)?
9. Top 10 tax payers report and 50/50 breakdown industrial/commercial to residential.
10. Did you attend or participate in any of the Citizens Advisory Committee meetings? Board members that attended were just spectators and did not participate. Where are you coming up with “the board’s game plan?” How did you explain the “total hit to the family budget” vs what is and has already been communicated? The proposed tax rate increase is widely available and public. There is nothing hidden. Are you going to tell me the interest rate is 18% too and these bonds are financed for 40 years?
11. You said it was reported. Who reported it? What programs? You state BCISD is having financial issues and having to cut programs, implying that is something NISD will have to do.
12. What programs? BCISD didn’t pass a bond in 2014, it failed.
13. I don't think anyone is trying to bamboozle anyone. Most people just budget on a monthly basis. It is easier to explain and understand what $156,000,000 million dollars looks like from a tax impact basis and how it affects a residence or business tax burden if its clearly broken down. No one is out advocating for the bond saying its a $0.038/hr increase on a $100k appraised residence and I don't think anyone has tried to hide the amount of the proposed bond. The proposed projects and their budgeted amounts have been posted here, on social media, in the board minutes, discussed over 6 months at various C.A.C. meetings, a citizen survey completed both online and via phone, etc. The whole process has been extremely transparent, open to the public (even if you didn't want to be a member), and led by the C.A.C. Approximately $27.50 / month for a $100k house. = $330 annually Approximately $55 / month for a $200k house. = $660 annually. Approximately $82.50 / month for a $300k house. = $990 annually. Approximately $110 / month for a $400k house. = $1320 annually. Etc. In regards to the pig comment, the Citizens Advisory Committee (C.A.C.) which was comprised of 80-100 members (both nominated and self-nominated), overwhelmingly supported "new" and not the type of bond passed in 2012. Additionally, only the high school is proposed to be torn down. The improvements made at the other schools stay in place. Disclaimer: This is a personal account. 15. Awesome news. Great coach, person, and representative for Nederland. Nederland sports are in great hands.
16.
In 2011, Nederland has been crowned District Champs in: Basketball Soccer Baseball and now Football!! Not a bad year so far!
You can expect 2012 Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer to seal the deal again. Congrats Nederland on an outright District Championship!
17. Raines returns to form. Running game opens up. Brown with MVP from combined offensive and defensive play and has the hit of the game. Late td and xpt. seals the deal. 28-20 Dogs.
18.
All I want is for the Basketball Program to thrive in Nederland. I put too much time and dedication in helping it grow to see it get the short end of the stick. You would think in a true AD's position that he would recognize the sports around him are thriving and help them a tad. That help could be getting another coach, giving more funding, or just plain recognition. In my 4 years as apart of Nederland High School I have attended many athletic events (basketball, football, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, track, tennis, even swimming). I have noticed from some of these coaches the displeasure they have toward the AD's decisions toward their respective sport. Its not fair in my eyes to have a quality football staff and all the other sports around football get whoever they can find to give another coaching title, no matter the coaching background. If the AD wants to stop all this hate toward him its easy, recognize a team that wins District(not fight for 4th place)but winning District. But by giving coaches someone they dont want, just gives that coach another reason for leaving Nederland!
Josh, I'd like to see basketball excel in Nederland too. Being a trainer/manager requires a lot of work and time that often goes unnoticed by some but I can assure you your efforts and dedication was recognized by many. There is no doubt that other sports in Nederland are thriving. Luckily we have a great group of coaches in Nederland that spend a lot of uncompensated time because they enjoy teaching the game and competing. While your post suggests that Coach Neumann owns a magical checkbook that increases funding and provides more coaching positions, that simply isn't the case. I addressed the reasoning behind Neumann's decision. Most times these asst. coaching positions must be filled with a coach that is certified to teach in an open teaching position. The coach you are referring to is not certified in science. If this is not the case then please correct me. After reading your post what you don't understand is sometimes the AD's hands are tied since open teaching and coaching positions must be filled by one person who is certified to teach the open subject. Since we've all recognized that English needs more assistant coaches (I think someone previously said Ozen had 6) we need to see about creating new, additional positions to help English out. Despite the fact that you imply Neumann can create these positions with a quick John Hancock, this isn't the truth. I've noticed on your two posts you initially post things that you go back and delete so that no one can see. I won't reply to these parts of your post, but know that I read them and I highly doubt Coach English considered making an account on SETX sports but sent you instead to "put me in my place." This wasn't the focus of the entire thread until you recently claimed to be in the know and I didn't see it necessary to put effort into replying about. I will say while many boy's basketball Dads, fans, etc. on this board assume that Coach Neumann disagreed with double blocking/split blocking boys basketball, in reality that couldn't be any farther from the truth. I won't use caps, bolding, and exclamation points to somehow scream my message in your direction but when double/split blocking was first created, way back when, it was planned to be provided to any sport or sponsor (e.g. band, westernaires, etc.) that sought it. Now, granted Coach English wasn't around at the time, he can't be blamed for not seeking his respective sport be double blocked like only Coach Neumann (football) and Val Rose (band director) eventually did. So time went on until other sports such as vball and basketball expressed interest again. Since some claim that Neumann was deadset at not allowing double blocking boy's basketball, I'll tell you what he didn't agree with since it seems partial basketball fans are incapable of recognizing that Coach Neumann would support double blocking all sports and not just football or volleyball. He disagreed with only double blocking boy's basketball. Coach Neumann thought it was fair for all sports to be double blocked and felt the girl's should have a vested interest in being double blocked too. Also, there was multiple scheduling conflicts arising that I am certain Ms. Moye addressed in the school board meeting at the time. So you can claim all you want that Neumann is a cruel dictator out to undermine the rise of the basketball program due to a personal vendetta against English but that is the history regarding double blocking. I guess this is the part of my post where I cap and bold to somehow feel as though I put you in your place but I don't see that as necessary and I would gain nothing from it. In all honesty, I hope there is not a growing dissension among Nederland sports like #1 Manager suggests. I was done with this thread until #1 Manager came onto the board, further twisting things into stuff they are not. We gotta push for the future of Nederland.  Goodluck this year Nederland Basketball! As evidenced by the past seasons, we got a great one in English. Now let's get him some more assistants! Signing out.
19.
Why does Nederland have just two assistant coaches anyway? Ozen has six assistants. That is the problem. I doubt Neumann has anything to do with that.
Great point!
20.
Something some of yall might have no clue about is how poor Nederland advertises for their coaching jobs. This Summers Coaching Job Market listed only 2 jobs, Head Softball Coach & Linebacker coach. Last time I checked there were bout 4 more jobs to add to that list!  I tried asking who's encharge of posting and i didnt get an answer back (maybe cause the person encharge wouldnt want controversy if people found out)   Micah I give you credit for trying to proove your points through a politcally correct stand point with all this budget stuff and teaching kids comes first..I agree! You were a great RB for Nederland I think one of the best! But how I recall it going down was that Neumann disliked the idea of basketball split block and English had to go fight for it through the school board and admininstrations. So if spewing absolute crap solves nothing.......You just solved NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can try to argue with me but I spent a majority of my high school career with Basketball/English and u spent yours with Football/Neumann  so basically we would be arguing back and forth over the two.   My Last thing i would like to bring up is on the topic of "Neumann's Great Bluff" (yeah im giving it a tittle cause you could write a book about it). Remember a couple of years ago when Coach Neumann came on the News and said he was considering leaving for the LaMargue job. Please, me and my dad both knew he wasnt gonna take that job. Moving from a pro dominate white school to a pro dominate black school in Houston, he couldnt handle those kids regardless of how highly everybody talks bout his coaching skills. He used scare tactics as a way to make the school district pay him more money to stay. If thats not a sign of a selfishness in Neumann,I dont what is!   What it all comes down to is that no matter what we say or post on the message board the School Board & Administrations are scared to stand up against him. In my opinion we shouldnt even have a mayor cause Neumann Practically owns and controls this town......Cause in the end we are all cut out faces on the pawns of Neumann's Chess board in the game that he is WINNING!!!!!!!!
I'm not familiar with the summers coaching job market listings or how they work but the 2 listings make sense in Yeaman (softball) and Jardell (linebacker) since they've taken administrative positions. The other four you refer to I am unaware of and how they potentially correlate with teaching positions. I played other sports and you can single me out as only a football player if you like, but I think if you read through my posts you'll see nothing but the utmost respect and support for Neumann, English, Smith, etc. and Nederland as a whole. I've even stated multiple times we should push for more specialized coaching and specialized teaching positions to allow the best for both our students and athletes alike. This would greatly benefit Coach English would it not? What I didn't agree with in this thread was the bashing posts coming from cowards behind screen names. If I'm in the wrong for disagreeing with that type of behavior then so be it. I then spent pages upon pages discussing several different topics and reasoning for Coach Smith remaining where he was. I don't know if any of what I said is true or not but it certainly is more logical and brings more value to a conversation than suggesting Neumann wants to sabotage English or see English fail. Regarding the split block/double block scheduling we'll have to agree to disagree as I have accounts from several different individuals that have told me differently. If this was the main purpose of your argument then you missed an entire threads worth of conversation. If Coach English was actually upset after I posted that, he is more than welcome to call me. I don't think I've said anything but good things about him this entire thread. Are you suggesting Neumann doesn't reserve the right to venture into other cities for employment and is only doing so as some kind of ploy? I don't really agree with that. As AD and HC I think his salary compares to the rest of Texas. Regardless this is irrelevant to a thread concerning an assistant to Coach English. I think your last point comes off as a little condescending to the people in NISD's administration office. I'm not even sure what role the mayor plays in academics of a our city.
21.
The 1st assistant in basketball is like the OC or DC in football. They serve a very important role to the success of the team on Tue/Fri nights as well as the overall development of the program. It's asanine for a 4A/5A school not to have a "basketball first" first assistant for the basketball program. What are the OC/DC's certified to teach? Why aren't those positions limited to science/math certifications? Would Neuman hire a "basketball first" or "baseball first" coach to fill those positions?
Gilchrest is English's first assistant correct? Glichrest is a very experienced coach at Basketball. The info is there if you want to read it. You can tell yourself Neumann is out to kill the bb program or you can come to the conclusion that Walker was the best coach to fill the district's needs. Let's get a newly created coaching position to help English.
22.
Wow....mmosely knows everything...what are the odds that mmosely is really Larry Neumann....or what are the odds that they are sitting in close proximity while he responds in such detail to every single thing. I agree with a previous poster, this is more entertaining than a Redbox comedy.  ;D
What are the odds that 5 on 5 is actually a parent of a BB player... that I know? What are the odds that the father of a player would be partial to the boy's BB team rather than want the best for the entire coaching, teaching, and district needs at Nederland? What are the odds that Nederland sports kicked butt last year and were coached by people Neumann hired? What are the odds that Redbox will have a new popular movie actually in stock? I've never stated I know everything. If you read back, the only thing I've really done is provide a logical opinion supported with common obstacles and variables rather than an irrational one filled with poo. If anything, I stated numerous times I would love to see Coach Smith be able to join English and Gilchrest. I think it'd be a deadly trio filled with very good and experienced coaches that demand all the right things to be successful. I even said that if Coach Smith can't be moved to boy's asst. due to coaching/teaching conflicts that maybe we should seek the board to try and open a new position to provide English the relief he needs and still provide for our other girl and boy sports. But all of you don't want to use logic. You'd rather carry on with your bash party because you, yourself, feel as though you're getting the short stick. What if Smith moved to boy's freshmen bb coach, freshman baseball coach, freshman football coach, and science teacher. Would you be on the baseball board complaining that our freshman boys are getting shafted and Neumann is trying to sabotage baseball success? Would you be going to the board because your kid wasn't getting a quality education in science? Would you be going to the Girl's BB board if the position was filled with a young, inexperienced, yet basketball specialized coach to lead our girl's team? Probably not. I think its great that fans, dads, grandparents, moms, siblings, whatever else want the best teachers for their kid's education and the best coaches to coach them. But some of the posts on this thread is just libel, and serves no purpose but to incite and encourage unnecessary action at the wrong person. Let's look at the school board and see if we can provide more positions to help ease Coach English's workload and promote success for our basketball program.
23.
Still failing to see what I'm saying. I've watched Coach Smith coach my sisters in basketball games. Why would Coach Neumann benefit by not allowing a coach that demands hardwork, teamwork, and accountability to fulfill as asst. role? Let's look at Coach Smith's primary responsibility - Girls Head Basketball Coach.  I'm not sure if he is certified to teach but I know he can coach so I'll leave out any teaching credentials he may have as I do not know. Let's look at Coach Walker's responsibilities - Science teacher, Freshman/asst. basketball, Freshman football, and baseball (not sure on level). Now, let's move Coach Smith to boy's assistant thus freeing up his position and eliminating the need for a Freshman/asst. basketball coach. Now Walker has - Science teacher, football, baseball. But the Head girls basketball coaching position is still open and Coach Smith cannot fill a teaching role. So in order to make all this work an entirely new position needs to be created. If that's what we need to get Coach English the help he needs to take our basketball team to new heights then I say we do it. If that's what English needs to excel then we should go to the board and seek that a new position be created. But suggesting Neumann is a dictator, envious of English, and made this decision to hurt English is completely untrue. Why would Neumann be against hiring a new basketball oriented coach to help our basketball team?? The hiring of Walker is what best helped satisfy the district's needs. Maybe this breakdown makes better sense and I've failed to explain it well.
I don't see how anyone can look at this hypothetical situation and not see how a situation like this plays out.
