Hey Nash- When did Obama get on this board?
Feel free to join the conversation at anytime Honest Abe. I know its fun and cozy on the sidelines but really, come join.
I appreciate the invite, but I respectfully decline. I've said everything I wanted to say, but you are clearly not listening to anything we (those who disagree w/u) say.
No one has given me anything to listen to? I've replied to multiple posts, even the most ridiculous ones, but no one seems to give an answer back. You and the squad just comment on my freshman status, how the message board works, or redbox savings. So what is it that I have not listened to.

 3.
Let's be honest, most ad can hire who they want. And if Ned budget is that bad off, maybe the head football coach may want to take a salary cut, being he is up in the 90,000 range.

I think I've proven otherwise. While an AD may be able to hire who they want, it has to ultimately fill the district's needs. In this situation I think I've repeatedly shown that other variables are in play than just moving a coach to another position without putting other ripples into everything else.  I think if you were to look at other high schools in the state of Texas his salary is on par with others. Keep in mind he does not make in the 90 range as a head football coach. He is also the AD. If you look across the tracks I think they have both a football HC and head AD and spend more than 90 when combined so your solution wouldn't solve anything.
 4.
Mmosely , to both my questions a simply yes or no would have been fine. I for one do not feel like reading essays. Yes on first and no on second.
I apologize for giving you a well thought out answer.
 5.
As others have posted I agree that Coach English can teach and mold this assistant. But how long will this take...and how much time will it take him away from the varsity while he has to constantly be molding the assistant. I think the point is wouldn't it be much easier to mold an assistant if they at least were knowledgeable about the sport. It is wonderful that coaches are also classroom teachers. I get it. But would you put this science teacher in a classroom teaching math??....Then simply put why would you put him in a coaching position he knows nothing about??
I wouldn't put him in a classroom teaching math because he is certified to teach in science. If your read my post, why put a HC for baseball as a football RB's coach? What about the girl's team when you take away Coach Smith. Don't you think putting the 2 most experienced basketball coaches on the boy's team leaves the girl's team out to dry?
 6.
Enlighten me, cause truly I do not understand. A previous poster said Neumann had to hire this coach while fitting it all together like a puzzle. Why should Neumann have to worry whether this assistant coach teaches math, science, or any other subject. Did neuman hire this guy as a science teacher?....or was he told by administration that he could hire anyone he wanted BUT they also had to be a science teacher?
I'm trying to make it as clear as possible. An AD cannot simply hire whoever he wants. NISD does not have the budget to do so. To be as efficient as possible, multiple coaching roles are filled with certified teachers. I have to stress the word certified. You cannot just be a basketball coach and teach calculus or history or science etc, without proper certification. This helps our budget in eliminating excess personnel.
 7.
While I am unqualified to speak on this particular instance, reality is reality.  If we are honest, we will acknowledge that, in the state of Texas, football is still king ( I have no interest in football and am a passionate basketball fan).  The great majority of Athletic Directors are head football coaches and it is human nature to be less concerned with other sports than the one in which you are involved.  I am familiar with a number of situations where the AD, who may be a very fine person, does not give the attention that he should give when making decisions about sports other than football.  I will bet that if there were some way to do a detailed analysis, the most "qualified" coaching staff at nearly every school will be the football staff ( in terms of experience and interest in the sport they are coaching) and coaching assignments in other sports are, in most instances, a decision with little if any forethought or, perhaps, with forethought regarding how that particular decision could benefit the football program.  If anyone tells me that Universal Off Season is not MORE beneficial to the football program, I would appreciate a good explanation of that one and NOT the bigger, stronger, faster comment as I am sure that the head basketball coach is better qualified to determine the conditioning needs of his players than the head football coach.
If we go back a bit and ask the School Board members you'll find that Coach Neumann and Coach English approached the board to get split block scheduling for boys and girls basketball so that they could meet everyday.
Watch out Nash, we have a feisty one here!  ;) Don't say I didn't warn u...
Feel free to contribute to this conversation at any point. I've addressed multiple posts you have made.
So if u consider education first, do u think oc and dc should teach a class besides athletics?

Oh and mmosley do u think that a coach being a freshman football coach is the same thing as being an asst., for a varsity sport? My other question may have got left off, but since you consider education first then I assume you would think that an oc and dc should teach a class besides athletics only?
If I considered education first I would provide the funding that allowed coaches to coach and teachers to teach. Using an OC, DC, or HC would most likely not be who I employ to handle the rigorous responsibilities of being both a coach and a successful teacher. You bring up a good point though that I have already addressed. When piecing the puzzle together of open teaching and coaching positions there are multiple obstacles that are encountered. Like - What teaching positions are currently open and need to be filled? What are they certified to teach in? What are their coaching credentials? If we move him/her there what happens to the other position? What happens to the girls bball team if we move Coach Smith to boy's assistant bball coach? What about scheduling? Is the district adding teachers, cutting teachers, staying the same for # of teachers? etc. "Do I think that a coach being a freshman football coach is the same as being an asst. for a varsity sport?" No, like I've said repeatedly throughout this thread that no one seems to read, ideally we would have specialized coaches for each position and sport that they require along with specialized teachers in their own respective subjects. That's just not the case. Our funding requires us to fill teacher/coach combos that can handle multiple responsibilities that best fit the entire district's needs. I pointed out earlier that the Head baseball coach was a pitcher in college (can still throw a nasty slider lol) at ULL but coaches our running backs on the varsity football level along with duties at COW and I believe either on the JV or freshman team also. Do you think Troy Benjamin, a running back, will suffer this year because he is coached primarily through an ex-pitcher? Absolutely not. Coach Robbins is an excellent coach and luckily Nederland is loaded with exceptional coaches in our sports programs. The same goes for Coach English. Coach English is excellent coach and will mold Coach Walker to be successful just like any other assistant coach would be molded by the HC. For your second question, to my knowledge the OC and DC fulfill the PE roles for all non athletes at NHS and study hall roles that I believe 9th graders enroll in. I've stated numerous times already that I think Coach Smith would be an excellent right hand man to Coach English, but to suggest some of the things in this thread that some of you have said is entirely false. Once again, if Coach Neumann could hire based upon only coaching credentials then why wouldn't he? He can't because several other factors are played into the bigger equation. In this case a science position and 3 other assistant positions.
 8.
What do u consider number one in Ned? I think most schools consider number one to be the district champs. Do you and Nederland football consider it to be something different?
I consider education to be the most important and I think I've made that clear through my posts. Walker was hired to first fill a science teaching position along with 3 other coaching assistant spots. Like I said, if we want to fund the schools more to provide specialized teachers in all subjects and assistant and coaching positions I'm ALL FOR IT. Many of you are not taking into consideration other factors that come into play when filling teaching and coaching positions and how it all has to fit together.
All this is spoken like true football players.
Please, enlighten me on how I've advocated for football in anyway. If anything I've advocated for what's best for everyone and clearly stated multiple times that I thought Coach English is an excellent coach and leader. Which is why I said he will have no problem in molding Walker into the basketball assistant he needs to be successful.   Honest Abe, you sure do bring a lot to this conversation. You state a bunch of nonsense in the beginning and follow it up with redbox comments and smiley faces.
 9.
Sic em Micah! Sic em! Ha ;D Honestly, though as I stated earlier in this thread, I think Neumann does a great job at Nederland and we are lucky to have him. In his nearly 20 years at NHS he has earned my trust that his decision was what he thought was best for Nederland student athletes. Just my opinion.
I'm just waiting on a few to produce logical OPINIONS (like honest abe likes to type it) to my points. It seems I present multiple points but they would rather address my setx freshman status and give me message board pointers or comment on someone saving money through redbox. I bold things. I bullet things. I reply to posts. I break down posts. I explained that its more than just moving a coach over to fill a slot. They claim to want to best for all kids to succeed (contradicting themselves in the process) so I address that. But none of this matters anymore because the irrational thinking and bash session isn't fun anymore to them.
 10.
But basketball is supposed to be #1 in Nederland and Neumann is sabotaging us!! I watched my first Nederland Bulldog basketball game about 40 years ago and I find this thread is better than renting a comedy at Redbox.  :D
So what's your stance on this. I read pages of posts filled with nonsense so I decided to say something. I bring up multiple points that go against what they are spewing and all of the sudden I am accused of being defensive and taking things personal. Am I missing something or did I just ruin the bash party?
 11.
Don't take this as condescending but it's always easy to spot a new poster. A simple word of advice: understand everyone has opinions....I won't change yours and you won't change mine....don't wear your feelings on your sleeve and take things too personal or you will lose some sleep from time to time....and some people on this board actually enjoy stirring things up....and you being related to the AD will need to develop very thick skin or this message board will be no fun at all for you.
Hey 5 on 5, welcome back. I already apologized to you though and addressed that. Thanks for the lesson on how message boards work but I think I'm good. Just on here clearing some stuff up on Neumann's attempts at sabotaging the bball program. If my status on this message board somehow discredits what I say then I'm sorry I don't have enough posts yet to meet your approval. If I were a veteran message boarder I don't know that I would consider '82' posts as experienced though. My feelings aren't on my sleeve and I have yet to take anything personal and I surely will not lose sleep on this thread. If you enjoy stirring things up on a message board then enjoy yourself. Me being related to the AD has zero relevance in this thread. Surely I am not the only one on this board that is capable of seeing the big picture? Maybe instead of giving me a lesson on how message boards work you can address some of the multiple points I've brought up.
 12.
Neumann is clearly envious of the success and attention of the basketball program.  The sad thing is that the kids are the one's who will suffer most from this. Do you think he would hire a defensive line coach to coach his QBs? I think not. He has an ex-QB at that position who is also the OC. You are right, he may be a good football coach, but he is NOT a good AD.      A good AD is one who helps each kid thrive in every sport, not just football! The problem in Nederland is that Everyone is afraid of Neumann, including administrators. They were not innocent in this hire. They sat by and watched this take place and allowed Neumann to continue his dictatorship!! We all need to bring this atrocity to our school board. If we don't, then nothing will EVER change!!
.Envious or proud? I think everyone in Nederland that attends bball games (including Neumann) takes pride in the work Coach English has done. .How so? Wouldn't the girl's suffer? or the science position? or the baseball position? or the football position? .How about an ex Ned graduate and ex ULL pitcher in Coach Cody Robbins (also boy's baseball HC) to coach RB's? That's just one easy example. .Please, our sports are doing incredibly better. .See 2nd bullet. .That's just hilarious. .You're right, we do. Just not to address Neumann's nonexistent dictatorship. We need a board with a vision for Nederland that wants the best for all students, athletes, and teachers alike.

Boys Basketball job.
I didn't mean literally. This thread comes off as Neumann picked Walker in hopes of sabotaging the boy's basketball success. Do I need to go through and copy every post in this thread to prove that? My argument is that some on here are not looking at the bigger picture. I see complaints about short changing Coach English and the boys team but are we saying we think its the best idea for ALL kids to have the two most experienced bball coaches to both be on the boys team and leave the girls out to dry?? How do we not know that Walker was hired to fill multiple positions that couldn't be done by simply moving Coach Smith over? What would've happened to the girl's team? Don't the girls team benefit with Coach Smith's experience and leadership??
The girls absolutely benefit from having Coach Smith as their coach. But, he wants to coach boys basketball. He also has a son in middle school and I am sure that plays into the fact that he wants to coach the boys.
Well, we lost alot of coaches last year and alot of shuffling had to occur in a short amount of time. I would like to see Coach Smith move to boys and help Coach English but maybe that simply could not be done this year due to circumstances you and I both do not know. I would think that his decision to coach his son played a huge part in him wanting to move and rightfully so. Hopefully we can find an experienced girl's coach so that maybe he can move.
 14.

Yes. One of the jobs of the AD is to help kids reach their potential in all sports, not just FB. To many of us, it doesn't seem like this is being done in this situation.
So would you agree then that by having our 2 most experienced coaches serving for both girls and boys would help them both reach their potential? Don't you think the hiring of Coach English was for basketball and not football?
And if you agree that multiple factors exist then I'm assuming you would agree that Walker taking a science position and assistant to 3 other sports might of been in the best interests to everyone. Like I said, I'm all for getting more coaching positions and teaching positions. Heck, if we want the best science teacher or basketball coach for our kid it would probably be better to both a specialized science teacher and specialized bball coach. But that's simply not the case.

Don't you think there are other factors that have to be taken in when filling coaching and teaching positions to fulfill the needs of the district?
 18.
How is that condescending? 5 on 5 is just giving an opinion. It's not a direct shot at you.
I apologize. 19.
You just don't get it. As I said before, if this were the 1st time, no big deal. The 2nd time raised a concern. He was then assigned to the middle school. From what I understand, he took the girls' job back last year because he was told that he had to, when what he wanted to do was take the asst. boys' job that was open. This year he also wanted the boys' asst. job that was open, but again he was denied that job. Their is no doubt that he has made it clear that he wants to coach boys' basketball. Everyone knows that Coach English wants him to be his asst. For some reason, Coach Neumann keeps deciding to not let him have this job.
Explain how you think Neumann somehow benefits from denying Smith an assistant boys basketball job. Do you not think there are other factors that have to be considered concerning other coaching and teaching openings?
 20.
Just so you know WE have no control over pay freezes, teachers being cut, and extra funding. This is entirely a governmental cause. As far as new facilities we did try to do something about that, however, the bond issue was voted down. Going to the school board on these issues would serve no purpose.
I don't know what is with your repeated attempts at being condescending but I'm not sure how looking into our current property and M&O taxes wouldn't fix some of the budget problems we are experiencing. You're right, we did attempt at passing a bond. And we failed. Around next January our board will begin to put together another one. How would this serve no purpose??
 21.
Details as I know them: Last years assistant coach for Coach English left his coaching roll to accept an administrative position. Several good applicants for the open position, one of which kids and parents alike would love to see move from his Nederland middle school coaching position to the high school level. Our wonderful AD Larry Neumann waits until the last available day and hires a BASEBALL coach who knows nothing about basketball to be Coach English's assistant....without input from the head basketball coach. Make any sense?? No, but that's how our AD rolls. This new coach (coach Walker?) probably is a fine person....but.....how can you accept a position you are not qualified for?? Believe me, Nederland has been groomed into one of the best basketball programs in this area by Coach English, and as basketball parents and as a community who now understands that BASKETBALL is the number ONE sport in Nederland, we will not sit idly by and watch an inept AD prevent basketball from continuing to succeed!!!!  Larry Neumann may be the best football coach in the world....don't really know and don't really care....but I don't think he would be willing to coach his football team with a bunch of non qualified assistants. It is blatantly obvious that he CANNOT be AD and do what is best for the "other" sports.
Here is where I got middle school coaching position. Now, since we want fairness for all kids in all sports who will fill the girls basketball HC position, science teaching position, etc.
 22.
It sure does seem like you did. That's a pretty defensive statement.
I'm just wanting to know who the middle school coaching candidate was.

Have I taken something personal by asking if he disagreed with something I said? I don't think so.
 24.
The 'better option' already works for the district. No shuffling, no concern for finding a 2nd subject for him to teach. All of your concerns do not apply to this situation. Neumann could easily have slid him into this position, but he didn't. If this were the 1st time, we would not be having this conversation. In fact, we did NOT have this conversation when the same thing happened last year and the time before that.
Who is the candidate.
