  1. Well, I do understand at small schools there may be a problem of availability. But I think that effect should be weighed by the coach and AD's at the individual schools, not globally by the UIL.

If a coach believes that the effectiveness of the spring practice would be compromised by the absence of his football players participating in other sports that would be a major reason to forego the practice and start earlier in the summer. But that should be the decision of the individual school.

  2. I think it should be made available to the 3A schools. However, I don't know that if I were a coach, I'd avail myself to it. Remember that if you do spring practice in 4A-5A, you must start during the summer later. If I am an established program (i.e the coach has been there a while and has his offense/defense installed) I'd rather the extra time at the beginning of the school year.

  3. I read on their website that other factors will be thrown in there after this season to make it even more accurate.

Yeah' date=' I read that as well. An example is a projection that I ran last year when we this was on wo-s.com:

    at Newton (TX)

[2005'] Newton (TX) 42, [2005] Memorial (Port Arthur, TX) 14

    at Memorial (Port Arthur, TX)

[2005] Newton (TX) 41, [2005] Memorial (Port Arthur, TX) 14

    at neutral site

[2005] Newton (TX) 42, [2005] Memorial (Port Arthur, TX) 14

I don't see where Newton could put that wide a margin on Memorial.

  4. LOL! Well Coop! We know this thing ain't COMPLETELY accurate!

Here is 2005 Bridge City vs. 2001 DeLaSalle

at De La Salle (Concord, CA)

[2001] De La Salle (Concord, CA) 42, [2005] Bridge City (TX) 10

  6. Let's be careful about declaring turkey shoots and cakewalks. Many a team has had their season ended by a rep from the "weaker" district. As far as the picks, they are:

    C.E.King

    Forest Brook

    Barbers Hill

    Huffman

    Crosby

    New Caney

    Smiley

    Galena Park

I believe that both newcomers from 3A will be in the playoff mix and it wouldn't surprise me if both end up in the playoffs. It is just that King and Forest Brook seem to do it just about every year. However, the Brook has faltered so both Bh and Huffman could be playoff bound.

  7. Well, let me throw my two cents in. I hope to dispell all bias by stating that I have known Kevin's mom for over 20 years and I am friends with several Huffman folks. Both Kevin and Jamie are GREAT pitchers and no, one is not head and shoulders above the other. They just have different styles, Jamie more the power guy and Kevin more on his stuff. Had Jamie not missed most of the season with his injury, I gather that he would have had the opportunity to sign with a D1 school this year as well. I expect both to be drafted well up in the order in the amateur draft in June and expect guys like Listi, Haymon and Arnold to get a look as well.

If they are fortunate to face each other, I am going to do my best to get off of work to make sure that I can make that one as it will be a CLASSIC. But both teams have a whole lot of big fish to fry before that happens.

  8. if brenham is ranked number 10 in the nation' date=' i would have to go out on a limb and say they don't have a whole lot of trouble with anyone. always go strength against strength, never weakness against weakness[/quote']

I agree. But then again, the number of wins that Griff has in his coaching career is that number more than I have in mine.

    Great year, Bears!!!!

  9. Sabine Pass' date=' will have a new coach this year. So it should be interesting to see who they get. I know for a fact that the kids are very hungry due to a unwanted short season. They will be pretty big but lack some speed.[/quote']

Well, Super T. It is great to see that the Sharks will be back in the district fray after their stint as an "independent" where they would get kind of lost toward the end of the season as an afterthought with all of the district races going on.

BTW, I have not seen the Sharks' 2006 Football Schedule. Do you know what it is?

  10. If a student fails a class' date=' he should be at home, grounded, and studying; however, that's something a parent should enforce, not a school district.[/quote']

No-pass, no-play was in effect in my household growing up long before the Legislature ever passed that bill. And those events that I would be barred from were not limited to those I participated in.

While I agree with GS that this is the province of the parent...there are many examples where academic achievement (or the lack thereof) has been a determinant of whether a person could participate.

  11. Grad' date=' you have to agree![/quote']

And where did someone say that I disagreed? I'll scream from the highest mountain that WO-S is one of the top teams in the state. When I tell someone here in the Houston area that knows anything about football that I graduated from WO-S, eyes grow wide and the neck straightens up.

It is really great work by WOS87, but it only confirms what we all already knew.

P.S. Could you tell us when the list will be updated to reflect the new district affiliations of those on the list?
