  1. To an extent I disagree. Do I think Memorial wins the district? Yes. Do I think that they will dominate? No. No team in this district, including Memorial, has enough talent to win on talent alone.
  2. As I remember, the support for the Sanderson's victory party was pretty wide spread and, in fact, there was no effort to hide the intent. As to Mustang fans, some say so, some don't. but all expect a state championship every year. And finally, it is ironic to be chided about an early exit from the playoffs by a fan of a school that hasn't appeared in a state championship game since the Korean War.
  3. Well, it was the first year that WO-S was in 3A (now 4A) and Nederland was the 2nd game of the football season. Now, during the last 3 years that WO-S was in 4A (now 5A), Nederland had beaten them 3 years in a row so I guess the Nederland faithful were pretty confident going into this game. So much so that the "Smack Attack" (folks probably remember that call in show on Friday) and the Nederland Bulldogs had advertised a "victory party" at Sanderson's Bar and Grill in Nederland for that Friday evening after the WO-S/Nederland game. Well, let's just suffice it to say that there may have been a party that evening, but it did not celebrate a victory.
  4. I agree, Coach Mathews is a great coach and a great guy. I hope that they can translate a heavy return of starters into a playoff spot. As for Nederland, I have seen some of those boys flapping their gap as to what will happen next Friday night on Twitter. I think a few of the Nederland oldtimers need to counsel them on the "Sanderson's victory party" game....you and other Mustang fans know what I am talking about.
  5. My guy, bobcatfan4life (who at this point I must thank DEEPLY for his help in getting the regular season schedules) just pm'd me that Cleveland and H-F are going to Tarkington for a scrimmage on Thursday at 6:30 pm.
  6. Dub, you are spot on at what happened AFTER the scrimmage. Vidor didn't even make the playoffs in any of those seasons and the Mustangs went at least 4 rounds deep in the playoffs with a state finals appearance a couple of years ago and an state championship last season. Further the Mustangs last year SHUT DOWN teams that ran either the slot T or wing T (LC-M, Newton, Orangefield, Hardin-Jefferson and Bellville). So you're right, success or lack of success in a scrimmage doesn't always translate into success or lack of success once the games count. This is why I shake my head at those that notch a "win" in their belt and demand to be fitted with a district crown when their school did well in a scrimmage and equally so at those that think the sky is falling on a school that struggles during one. All that being said, regardless of what happened after the scrimmage, what I described in the past few WO-S/Vidor scrimmages did happen. Why did it happen? I have no real answer for that, other than what has been described earlier...that it is doubtful that the Mustangs have practiced that much (if any) against the Slot T prior to the Vidor scrimmage.
  7. It is pinned at the top of the forum.
  8. And Vidor gives them exposure for the LCMs, the BCs and the Kennedales. BTW, I thought LCM was going back to the spread?
  9. Which is why I could care less if Vidor does run on WO-S next Thursday. It is not about stopping Vidor (although don't get me wrong, it will be nice if it happens), it is about giving the Chain Gang exposure to a offense that they will see at least once during pre-district, an offense they will see in half of their district games ,if there is a rematch of last year's quarterfinal, the offense that they will see then.
  10. Nope, dub. No test required, Just a good memory.
  11. Tune in to KFDM Sports Extra tonight as host Andrew Chernoff will take you around the world of sports. He'll update on the Texans' preseason game and the Summer Olympics. He also put the focus of football, first of the Texas variety as joining Andrew on set will be Coach Chris Babin and the Lumberton Raiders, then on the world variety as Andrew welcomes in Coach Steve Holeman and the Lamar Lady Cardinals soccer team! So watch Sports Extra tonight on KFDM Channel 6 after the KFDM Weekend News (approximately 10:20 pm)!
  12. Wouldn't count on that. The last few years, Vidor has run through WO-S like 6th graders were on defense for the Mustangs.
  13. I get what you are saying and I'm not saying that as a player you can't feel good about your performance in a scrimmage. Heck, if a team performs well in a scrimmage, I don't blame a fan for feeling good about their team. However, for their fans to ring up wins and losses and point to the result strictly as a point of community pride or superiority is just a tad silly. Take, for example, my beloved Mustangs. I have heard here and elsewhere how good WO-S looked in their scrimmage and some media outlets went as far as giving a score for the scrimmage. And yeah, I feel good that Jack looked sharp and the D played well, but what I am feel best about is that no major injuries have occurred. What will the focus be on tomorrow at practice? Why Jack and KJ couldn't connect on the goal line and the resulting interception, which if in done in actual game conditions, would have been a pick 6 for PN-G, the continuing problem with the Mustang kicking game. the breakdown that allowed PN-G to score from over 30 yards out. Why? Because this is what the scrimmages are meant for.
