  4. No you wait. YOU sere the one talking about being such "powerhouse" because Crosby had won 40 games in recent history, not me. And when a PN-G guys posts video of a 1999 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP game, YOU were the one who made the crack about the players of that game approaching. Then when it was noted that, by me, that the last (and for that matter ONLY) time Crosby even made a State Championship game occurred was some 39 years before. YOU counter with "Oh that is a different time!" and that Crosby's best players were playing for the all black school implying that if they had merged that history might have been different. When I point out CONCRETE examples that Crosby wasn't the only community that labored under those conditions, YOU want to tell me that I am talking out of my both sides of my mouth. And now it "well, the media says we bad, so we bad" and then you retreat in your usual diatribe about SETX teams getting bounced by Houston and Centex teams as if Crosby is somehow different. Here are the facts, that for all of the wins you have piled up over the likes of the Galena Parks and Porter have not gain Crosby a thing. During this time where you have hailed as the "powerhouse" days of Crosby, the Cougars have won ZERO state titles.....heck, they haven't even played for one! Another fact, in the MOST RECENT season, the teams history that you wish to dismiss as "irrelevent" reached THE SAME round of playoffs that Crosby did. Another fact, while you try to distance yourself from the "SETX" schools, you have been bounced just as hard by the Houston and Centex teams in the playoffs as the "weak" SETX teams. And what title predictions, Dave Campell's doesn't even have you getting to the State Championship game, much less winning the title. But go ahead and print out the predictions, and the preseason accolades because if this season ends like most for the Cougars, that will be all you have to clutch to.
  5. If the hair flows out of his helmet, I'll be able to spot him.
  6. I get what you are saying and history doesn't get you a free pass. On Thursday of next week, every team in this state will be 0-0 and what happened 20 years ago, 2 years ago or even last year won't mean squat. Which, I might add is a good thing because last year, the Port Neches-Groves Indians got just as close to the Class 5A, Division II state championship as the Crosby Cougars. So what do you gain, by poo-pooing PN-G's storied past? Dismissing it doesn't give Crosby a leg up this year and it doesn't change Crosby's history, either. Sure, if Drew and Crosby High had integrated, the Cougars may have made a few more championship games. But there are several in our coverage area that can make that claim. If Wallace High (who earned back to back PVIL titles in the 1950s) had merged with Orange High and West Orange High much sooner, I'd lay pretty good odds that WO-S would have a couple of more titles under their belt. What could have stopped that from occurring is if Port Arthur High (later Thomas Jefferson who had some success on its own), Lincoln High (who also garnered a few PVIL championships) and Port Acres High (later Stephen F. Austin) would have merged before the 1990s, which would have greatly increased Memorial's chances of title success. And neither of those probably would have occurred if the South Park ISD had not waited until being ordered by a federal judge in 1981 to merge Forest Park High with Hebert High, who had made the PVIL its personal playground, thus giving West Brook a pretty good shot at more titles. This year, Crosby has an excellent team led by a great coach with as, you and others have demonstrated, a very enthusiastic fan base. And yes, Crosby has a better than average chance of playing deep into December. But Crosby folks should know this better than anyone, the number of wins in the past few years will get you the same as PN-G's past titles will, nada.
  7. Yet this game was 39 years AFTER Crosby's most recent appearance in a State Championship game.
  8. As Stallworth is just about a mile away from me, I'll be over there, too.

  10. Congratulations, Bryce!
  11. Manvel could be D2 if both FB Elkins and Galena Park make the playoffs. Possible, but not likely.
  12. Beaumont Kelly/Evadale/Anahuac will be at Stallworth in Baytown tomorrow at 12:00 pm
  13. +1,000, 000! Believe it or not this thread and this one: are interrelated.
  14. I guess that is a signal that the new turf is ready?
  15. French, 1984 co-state champ. Barry Edelmon, where ever you are, you're welcome.
  16. I don't think that merging schools to create a larger number of 6As or 5A's is the answer. The last 6A title out of this area occurred 32 years ago (French). Only 1 team in the area has even gotten out of the region since then (Memorial in 2011(?)). 5A is pretty much the same story, the last 5A title was claimed 29 years ago and the last appearances in the final game have also been few and far between since (WO-S, 1988, 2000, PNG, 1999, Dayton 2008). And to further that point, East Texas has gained notoriety for the success in lower classifications......4A-2A. While an occasional John Tyler, Texas High. Marshall or Lufkin might make noise in 6A/5A ranks, East Texas is known for its Gilmers, its Carthages, its Waskoms, Arps and Altos. No, it is commitment by a community to allow kids to develop. Sure better facilities may help, but in itself it is not the answer, either. What I mean by community commitment is a community that buys into a coach just as much as the players and allows the coach to be boss. Not asking for his job after a certain loss, not starting stupid online petitions, not whining about the workouts a coach might not necessarily fit lil' Johnny's favorite sport, not refusing to do something because the newest guru said do it another way. If you really want to see if the community is in tune with that commitment, don't look at the football forum now. In a time where the boys are about to hit the field, everyone backs their school's teams. No, look at the football forum and other forums while jump shots are falling and fastballs are being thrown. During those times, are you seeing threads and posts complaining about the football coach doing lifting on a certain day or a workout that was "too extreme?" Do you see posts that call for a coach's head because he "yells" at kids? Do you have coaches leaving the football program on what seems to be a semi annual basis? If you see this out of your school, then chances are you do not have a community that has bought in and the chances that your school will be participating in football beyond the first week of November are remote. Now, I understand that some will claim the desire for a more "balanced" athletic program and I get that. I am not advocating the sacrifice of any other UIL sport in order to succeed at football. However, the reality is that those schools who do perennially advance deep in the playoffs in football do not have their program lie dormant while other sports are being played and that for this area to achieve the "respect," that reality must be accepted.
  17. I knew it wasn't and he would know that, too,
  18. Please keep my bud Mike Sanchez and his family in your prayers this evening. Word has just come down that the father of Mike's wife, Lisa, has passed away. Bud, prayers to you, Lisa and y'alls family!
