I view 7 on 7 as I do artificial turf and indoor practice facilities. It is nice to have, but those that win in the fall would probably be winning if they never had it. And even if you have a nice one, it doesn't guarantee you'll win in the fall.

Well, he is currently employed by Lamar University.

BRANDON PROUSE HIRED AS NEW DEWEYVILLE AD/HC!
WOSgrad replied to HasBeen36's topic in High School Football
I just head that Deweyville ISD plans on having a new coach in place by early July. -
Don't get me wrong. IF Coach Thompson could lure either Coach Westbrook or Coach Bennett to WO-S, I'd be good with that. However based upon information I have gotten from Jasper and Kirbyville, both coaches are currently happy enough with their situations, as well as both schools being happy enough with their coaches. So it appears that they will be staying put (no guarantee, of course) for the near future. Of course, I'd not have a problem if Ryan Pickering would be promoted to the top spot, either.

According to an article in the Enterprise, Cornel Thompson didn't give any timeline on when a hire will be made. He didn't indicate who the candidates, if he has any in mind are.

Winning state titles comes with the price of scheduling conflicts
WOSgrad replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
To be truthful, I originally said La Marque. Quite frankly, I forgot about King. -

Nope, truthful. Lee and WO-S met one time, a 1979 bi-district game that Lee won 12-7 (after WO-S' first ever district championship) and they come in just a few miles east of King. -

Well, I guess that explains why I didn't get that questionnaire back. -

That would be great, Newton usually provides a decent test for WO-S. -
Well, the only sure fire way to stop it is to have all transfers sit out a year no matter what. And that ain't gonna happen! The current structure the UIL has for policing it (if you call it that) is only as good as the coaches want to make it. Most coaches don't care to check the "yes" box on whether a student has moved for athletic purposes. Most coaches take the attitude that "if you don't want to play for me, I don't want you here, either." And those coaches that do dare to state that the student is moving for athletic purposes are vilified as being "mean" and "vindictive" for doing so. As talented as this young man is, the Aledo coach probably has 2-3 folks he can plug into his spot without losing a step. So why would he go through the headache of trying to prevent it?

No, if they get to Tenaha, they will lose that one. Teneha is loaded this year.

Winning state titles comes with the price of scheduling conflicts
WOSgrad replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I agree, it adds nothing to the article by referencing a loss before the gap. He even cuts himself off when he has DuBois admitting that it ended up not being a bad thing for them. That being said, I am sure that he is glad that he doesn't have a repeat of that again this year. -

I would, too. But apparently, one of the coaches who would have to agree to this game is one of those on the "list of 30" referenced in the article. -

WOSgrad replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Well, to be fair. All of the above teams have fewer non-district games than the Mustangs. If the new alignment somehow creates smaller 5A districts (which it may or may not do) that might create some more opportunities. -

Oh, I don't think you'll see Coach Thompson petitioning the UIL to take back their trophies. However, it does cause quite a headache. It is a big enough problem that he has to get 6 non-district games to fill a 10 game schedule. You couple that with a quite lengthy list of schools that decline to play and the headache becomes one that Excedrin can't get rid of. -

Tony Heath, coach of 2010 State Champ Pearland retires
WOSgrad replied to a topic in High School Football
Heath certainly built a great program at Pearland. It will be interesting to see who Pearland will get to replace him.
