BRANDON PROUSE HIRED AS NEW DEWEYVILLE AD/HC!
WOSgrad replied to HasBeen36's topic in High School Football
My understanding is that Dale wasn't the only one who left. Aside from the new hire Peveto, I am not sure that there was much of a staff left to promote. -

It sounds like the new man in charge will be named tonight. It will be Jasper assistant Brandon Prouse: [Hidden Content] -
Press release from Orangefield ISD AD Josh Smalley: "The Orangefield Athletic Department is happy to announce that Ashlee Broussard has been promoted to the position of Head Volleyball Coach. Coach Broussard loves this community, but most importantly loves our athletes. She is the type of leader we want leading our students. If you looked up Bobcat Pride" in the dictionary, I believe you would find her picture there. Coach Broussard has worked hard to earn this opportunity and we are excited about the future of Lady Bobcat volleyball program."

Ya know, kronos. I couldn't give a rats rear end whether WO-S and Memorial ever hook up in a game. The Mustangs have proven all they had to, with this: and this Of course, even if I did care, it won't happen as the coaching staff at Memorial has a penchant to saying no to playing Mustangs. I guess that comes from North Shore treating PAM like their red headed step child over the last few years. So don't try to float some sort of false narrative about the boys from Orange being "afraid" to make this game happen. -

Who is your team game(s) of the year 2017
WOSgrad replied to pakronos's topic in High School Football
Sure, it is arrogant. But then again, I don't know that setting high goals and expressing those goals is the issue. The issue is that some, some being Crosby fans but they are in no way the only offenders, tend to use words to indicate that they are looking down their nose at other programs, usually because they are smaller. And because ANYBODY that gets on this board is by no means a shrinking violet, there will be push back when they feel that has happened. Heck, that is why we are all here! LOL! -

Why not? I know Coach Riordan is thinking that way! I am not trying to discount any regular season games. In fact, I know that the Mustangs have several tough tests ahead of them in their 2017 schedule. And there are several games involving local teams (a lot of them have already been mentioned) that will be worthy of getting large attention because of either tradition or the strength of the teams involved. But it you want to win big, you gotta think big. -

Sorry, bru. I actually meant to change the first part of the quote as it wasn't you who said that, you are correct. -

I think Brubaker was speaking strictly at the local level. WO-S has had success against local 5A teams (14-2 against current 22-5A teams, 2-0 against Dayton since moving to 3A/4A) and teams in 4A Division I ranks (10-0 against 4A-I teams, including 4A-I state semifinalist Kennedale). But outside of the areas above, I agree completely with you. With that and a couple of state championships under the belt, some of our fans wish to think that they can whip anyone. I don't follow that line of thinking as I know there are a number of teams across Texas that are capable of taking my beloved Stangs. Would I mind facing those teams to see how they measure up? Not at all. Do I think it is vital to prove something? No, WO-S has 2 trophies in their case from the UIL which is all Mustang fans need to point to show the Mustangs' worth. That is why I have refrained so far in this thread from listing what I would consider the Mustangs "game of the year." Do the Mustangs have some marquee games? Yes. Some intriguing games? Absolutely, especially for the local crowd. However, as far as I am concerned, there is only one "game of the year" that should be in consideration, that is the one that I hope that they are playing the weekend before Christmas. And I am sure that you have the same considerations as a Carthage fan. And your school provides the textbook example of what I am speaking of. On 9/23, the Bulldogs travel to Gilmer. They will play a game that will probably feature the #1 ranked teams in 4A-I and 4A-2. A game with so much marquee value that it will be played on a Saturday instead of the usual Friday night. However, can that really, for either Carthage or Gilmer, be considered their "game of the year?" If the Bulldogs shut down Poppy Brown and company and win the game, the Bulldogs gain literally nothing out of the game with the exception of bragging rights and the experience of facing a tough team. On the other hand, if Mr. Brown goes for 400 yards and the Buckeyes win, I don't see Susan Elza denying Scott Surratt the 4A-I trophy should they be so lucky to win the last 4A-I game of the season simply because Carthage lost to Gilmer. I guess what I am trying to say is that your game of the year kinda depends on what you are trying to achieve. -

When Harrison decides he wants to play, he knows Thompson's number. It is on his caller ID from the phone call Thompson made when he called to schedule a game and Harrison turned him down. -
You're talking about the Beaumont ISD and the Port Arthur ISD, they have mastered the ability to make things hard.

Deer Park vs. Episcopal at 11 Ozen vs, Corpus Christi St. John Paul II at 7

Well, yours trumps mine as my interaction with Coach Taylor and his staff was back in early June. Also supporting that is the fact that the Thomas Center master schedule lists no games for September 2nd.

Today: Nederland, Coldspring-Oakhurst, Price Carlisle Tomorrow: Hardin-Jefferson, Channelview, Conroe Covenant Christian

I agree, especially given that all other "Saturday spllover" games are a 2:00 kick. I wish I could tell you one way or the other but Coach Nelson only confirmed that they are playing on Saturday. Fort what it is worth, the master Thomas Center schedule on the bisd website also shows a 7 pm start for this game.
-
Sorry about the delay, folks. I had an early doctor's appointment this morning in Houston. Today: Evadale, Conroe Oak Ridge, Houston Lutheran North Tomorrow: Nederland, Coldspring-Oakhurst, Price Carlisle

According to Coach Taylor, the game is at 3 at the Butch. On an unrelated matter (yet BISD), the schedules that both Central and West Brook put out show both of them having a home game on Thursday, November 9th at 7. Both Coach Peevey (WB) and Coach Nelson (Central) have confirm that the Baytown Lee/Central game will be on Saturday.
-
The Raiders have a bit of experience coming back, plus Coach Babin has seen numbers of participants increase which will lessen the need for 2 way players. The Raiders are gonna knock off at least one team that they shouldn't and could knock on the door for a playoff spot, but I think they'll fall just short.

I am thinking about opening up the SETXsports Rankings to fans
WOSgrad replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Everybody has their biases. If they say that they don't.....they're lying. The best way to run a poll is to make sure that the biases are in some way cancelled out. That is why I always thought that more is better so that one wayward soul cannot skew a set of rankings. There are just some that a better than others at suppressing those biases. Many have laid their capabilities, or lack of it, out in their various posts throughout the years. If you can't, that doesn't make you a bad person, just a not so good pollster. And to your No. 2, I fully realize there are those that hardly ever look outside of their district, much less out of their classification, in viewing teams. In fact, I think you'll agree that is the case for the majority of the posters here. Again, no problem. The scope you choose to follow is completely up to you. But in terms of rankings that could be a problem as this is an area that has all 6 classes and some private schools represented and we at SETXsports don't wish to exclude smaller teams from our rankings.
