That's correct, that is what I meant by lopping games off of the district schedule. Depending on Vidor's situation, they may have to do that again this year. Well, the accelerated and reduced schedule, hopefully not the coin flip. It makes for good movie scenes, but that is about it.

West Brook actually started practice in Winnie today and are actually practicing as we speak.

It depends on what various schools say at the meeting about their readiness to play. It could range from what the district did after Rita where it got a waiver of the 5 day rule from the UIL/TEA and played an accelerated schedule (which the UIL has already said it will do for varsity games: [Hidden Content]) and had games every five days until they catched up to actually lopping games off of the district schedule.

West Brook/Central won't be made up. According to an email from Coach Peevey yesterday afternoon, a final decision has not been made on whether the West Brook/Ozen game played.

Here is something that I don't understand. North Shore and Manvel were supposed to play this week. I saw a post on another thread that indicated that Manvel was currently looking for another opponent. Now this post that North Shore is looking for a scrimmage partner. If both are available to do this, why are they not playing each other this week?

Well, looking at drivetexas.org, the roadway situation seems to be improving. Southbound 96 is open. I-10 is now passable between Beaumont and the Texas-Louisiana border. 327 between Kountze and Silsbee is now clear. Heck, even 69 between Lumberton and Beaumont is now passable.

The answer came in part from the coach I was speaking to. He is from a school that is scheduled to start next Monday. He is getting grief from the principal and administration about even opening up voluntary workouts. The reasoning behind the grief is that young men even though they are not compelled to attend, will take "unnecessary" risks in order to attend these workouts or practices. If something were to happen to one of those young men, either in transit to or during practice, the administration is fearful of the liability it would face given that it has made a decision that the schools are currently not in a condition to attend. Is that likely to happen? No. Given sovereign immunity laws would a school district face liability? Doubtful. But tell a superintendent or board member that.

I spoke to a 22-5A coach who said that plans are for a 22-5A DEC meeting this week to discuss just this matter. That is, who, if anyone, will not be able to meet the bell when district starts next week (Week 3) and what to do if any school can't.
