I don’t complain much anymore.  But the officiating tonight was completely ridiculous.  It was literally 5 vs. 8 in the first half.  Samaha played a total of 4 minutes through 3 quarters.  One minute for every foul he had.  Sheldon had 3 in first half as well.  I’ll give Huffman credit as they  had a great game plan in first half and executed it to perfection.   Coach Davis made some halftime adjustments.  And were able to hit some big shots from Sheldon and Melvo in the second half.

Once again you watched a different game. I’m not sure a stint at Tekoa makes you an expert although you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. The trap that was used in the 2nd half was a different look and worked on more than one occasion on different players. Give credit where it’s due . With both teams hitting on all cylinders HJ has the best club this year. I gotta think these conversations make things tough in the HF locker room. On a different note HF looks to have a really nice JV club. Some of those kids , if eligible, could play on the varsity.

Know the facts before you respond.   Coach Davis and HJ book has the score as 35-31.  But scoreboard had it 35-30.  That’s what he was complaining about.

HJ played as poorly as I’ve seen all year.  But it was 5 against 8.  That chapter that Livingston uses is a complete joke.

Salty or simply the truth? Does ANYONE deny that Yates recruits? This isn’t college basketball, it’s high school. The idea is to take the kids in your town and play against the kids in the next town to see who is better. The next level, college, is where you get the best talent from said schools and put them on the same team and then compete. Yates is basically a small college/JUCO team.

Parents absolutely have a right to do what is best for their kid within the rules.  However, if you truly believe that three parents of three 6'8" kids all happened to get a job in Houston and all decided to live in Yates' attendance zone then you are living in a dream world.  Last year Yates had one 6'8" player (that became eligible mid way through the season) and he wasn't that good and did not play much.  This year they have four 6'8" kids (three of which are seniors).  The system is broken.  The problem is in multiple areas.  Did you know that two years ago Yates' enrollment was 1100?  Now it is around 850.  So, in a school that is in that drastic of a decline in enrollment, they still happen to have that many 6'8" kids there within the UIL rules?  Yates has open enrollment and is a magnet campus, which pretty much makes it accessible to anyone and at the same time Yates has the right to deny student entry because of those same factors if a student does not reside in their zone.  Therefore, they are able to manipulate their enrollment.  In turn, the playing field is not leveled.  How on earth in DISD and HISD does it make sense to have schools that vary in size from 3A all the way to 6A?  Yes...DISD has a 3A school...Madison.  Madison, by the way, has won basketball state championships in 3A, 4A, and 5A (before they renamed the classifications).  The open enrollment and magnet status combined allow schools within large cities a decided and unfair advantage.  The easy solution is to require that multiple high school districts that participate in open enrollment AND magnet programs cannot have schools participating in more than two classifications.  Therefore, they can compete (based on enrollment) in 4A and 5A or 5A and 6A but they cannot have schools in 4A, 5A, and 6A.  This should apply to all multiple high school districts because the open enrollment and magnet programs along with the sheer population of their city give them a decided advantage over districts that have only one high school.

Several things stood out tonight . The Hawks shot the 3 ball much better than they did in the first round and they got great post play tonight. I still say Bush is the best player in SE Texas. The key tonight though has been the Hawks strength all season and that's depth. The Hawks went 11 deep tonight with no significant drop off. Congrats on the "W" HJ now we need to take care of business Friday.

I’m not looking at a stat sheet but I know the Bears were shooting in the double bonus around the 4:00 minute mark in the first half. The foul count was 14-4 I believe at the half. That will keep games close.

Open enrollment doesnt make a kid eligible for UIL activities.  Residency is what determines that.  He should know he’s already being watched closely and if the “t’s” arent crossed and the “i’s” dotted H-F will find themselves in a bind.  A sudden influx of players from Beaumont wont fly in that district.  I hope he knows what kind of mess he’s creating for himself and the district.

First let me say what a incredible run for those Silsbee seniors.  Best of luck to Adams and McCain at Austin Peay!   Been a pleasure watching you guys the last 4 years.  Glad you are graduating.
Now anyone complaining about refs is just plain foolish.  Yates won the game fair and square.  Is Yates better than Silsbee.  No, I don’t think so.  Had a better day than Silsbee and that was with foul trouble all game long.  That’s just the way it goes sometimes.
