  1. NCAA means more $$$$$$ for your school and program....Besides, recruits don't give a flying flip about your team making the NIT finals....Case and point? Who were the final four NIT teams last season? Exactly, I don't remember either!! ;)

Good point all around, but remember I said if you knew you would lose in the 1st Round of the NCAA.  So I'll ask you, can you remember the 32 teams last year that lost right out the gate, but I get your point.  And answer this from a players stand point not adminstration, because we all know $$  only matters to the front office

  2. If you knew you would be knocked out of the 1st round of the NCAA tourney would you trade it in for making and playing in the Finals of the NIT?  That would mean you get 4 xtra games along with the oppurtunity to play in MSG twice during that time.  What would you do??

  3. Timing...They are going to honor this last year of Pat Knight's deal then let him go..After all, Bobby Knight took the job to eventually get him hired in the first place...Let it run its course, then hire Gillespie after this firing has died down.  Even though BCG is still a good coach, right now he would be looked at as UK's sloppy seconds....Trust me when I tell you, its all in the Texas Tech plan. ;)

Gotcha.  That why I was asking, because I didn't know the contract situation.

  4. From a really reliable source close to Pitino.  He isn't going to Zona, because he only would CONSIDER if his dad would sign off on it and follow him to Tuscon.  His dad said he thought it was a beautiful area but would be too hot in the summer.  I got that last Wednesday so unless something drastically change it should be a dead issue

  5. J,

no sir........I still have the career mark for 3's though Jarvis maybe very close.  Jarvis made 114 3's this year in 44 games........I made 121 in 37 games......BUT.......Jarvis can get to the rack just a little better than I could ;)........and is slightly more athletic than I am (in my deepest dreams!!) ;D

However, a guy by the name of Jayme Bradley who played for me at Tatum got us all beat.  He made 171 his senior year at Tatum and 142 his junior year at Tatum and made 93 his sophomore year for me at Tatum.  He could flat out light it up and is #2 all time nationally for 3's made in a season.......you see.........I rub off on the younger generations!!!! ;D

Nos, I know about Bradley and saw him play a few times.  What you MUST remember, though, is his "unconventional" shot  disqualifies him from being a shooter.

Hey Nash, did you ever play? Serious question.

ahhh,  HELLOOOOOOOOOO?  Ever hear of Santa Clara? Now for the serious answer to the serious question.  Was on a small college team but the only thing I did well was keep the bench warm.

GOOD STUFF!!!!! Almost spit my drink out when I read that.

  6. Dicky V good point about Anderson knowing the area from being a former Ark Asst, and furthermore he probably kept those ties going while he was the HC at UAB.

But, Im with Nos on this one.  Cal made Memphis basketball an elite program, not the other way around.  Without him its just an above average Conf. USA program.  Not saying Anderson can't keep it going, but he has a great gig in the Big 12 where he will get exposure week in and week out.  Its simple, he would be trading Kansas for Utep, OU for SMU, and Texas for Tulsa.

  7. DV will never admit that a white kid from a small school could play or should even be on that list!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

That is the thing about it Lazeek.........he only played 2 years at HJ and the other 2 years at a "BIG 4A".............his freshman year he did not play ONE and I said not ONE varsity game until the first playoff game and he scored 25 hitting a half court shot at the end of the first half.  Then in his sophomore year he started at the 3 guard position opposite of Kenyon Spears on what most people would call the most talented team in HJ history and averaged 25 a game. Guy was amazing!!!!!!!!!!

Spinks, Tanner and I was talking about that team the other day and HOLY CRAP that team was loaded.  Y'all were juiced at every single position.  I'm not saying they any more talented than the great '91 team, but boy pound for pound talent wise they had to be up there with them.  I just thank God that we were still playing football in the playoffs, otherwise that game could gotten ugly, because we weren't very good early in that '96 season.

BTW, as a defender you had to know what was coming with Throop every single play (3 pt shoot, or fake the 3 pt 2 dribbles down the baseline for the pull up jumper), but there wasn't anything you could do about it.  Kid was GREAT on the court.

Yes that team was loaded.  I was fortunated enough to be moved up and down on the team all year and got to play some early in the season with them.  Nos will admit that talent wise 1 through 7 that team was much more talented.  I remember that game getting cancelled and we were pumped for it as our fball were just coming out of reg season and you guys decided not to play.  Nothing like the old HJ/EC games..............man they were fun!!!!!

I would definetly conceded to HJ early in the season, but we would have had a WAR during the Playoffs and it could have went either way.  We really hit our stride that year in late Feb/early March.  TJ was UNREAL late in that season (he had 51 pts against Top 5 3a Crockett in a warm up game).

  9. Ok Im going to throw a name out there and Dicky V before you go crazy (LOL) I will say that he would never make the list and probably shouldn't, but was 1 hell of a player.  JB Blume from High Island back in the mid 90's was really good player.  He actually was in the Texas All-Time season scoring average (not sure if he still is), but he averaged like 28 pt/game his Sr year.  He also went to LU to play but it never worked out.

He was like a kid from Kansas or Nebraska who plays NAIA Div 12 football and ran for 98,000 yards in 3 seasons. :D  Even though he did it against terrible competition, its still worth noting, because its a great accomplishment.

  10. Nos, thats a fair point.  And like I said its remarkable what he has done in Memphis, but who knows how big basketball would have been at A&M if BCG wouldn't have left given how bad the Football program is now.  I mean if he could have continued the type of recruiting classes he had gotten in his short time, man that program would have been scary.  I think Turgeron has really reaped the benefits of his success.

Your right, basketball is what you think about at Memphis, but where they screwed up was not getting into the Big East.  Conference USA is just too weak for the GREATNESS of Cal.

And as a UK fan, you should be pumped, because like u and Spinks said the SEC along with Louisville better watch out, because it will be ON!!!!

And I will add, that even though y'all believe only a handful of coaches turn down that job(understandable), the UK admin. has to do a better job of realizing which of those coaches are capable of handling a program as big as the UK.  BCG wasn't cut out for that job from the jump(nothing to do with coaching), and for Barnhart and the rest of the board to get a complete pass on it while putting the blame on Billy is in my opinion wrong.

  11. I really didn't know about Beatie, because I actually never watched him, just heard GREAT things about him, so I would probably defer to others on him, but Kenyon and previously mentioned Jason Throop would be hard to leave off for me personnally because both were beast.  But Dicky in defense to your list, its hard for me to take off any of those guys you have up there because man most of them in the 90's were UNREAL.

About T. Thomas, well.. we all know where I stand on him, and think he would be on most peoples list.  But other than that, I have to say GOOD JOB!!
