Another great Setxsports.com game of the week. First let me say thanks to VISD for allowing me the opportunity to broadcast this game. Many thanks! Now for the game. I was very impressed with Vidor, very fundamentaly sound and great tenacity. The Pirates only suit up 7 players which is quite impressive for a class 4A team. Coach Robertson definetly gets the most out of his team. Jared Williamson, you young man are a player. Great game you played tonight. You put your team on your back at times and carried them to victory, congrats. Congrats to the Vidor Pirates!! A well deserved win.

Easy to say with HJ's 2nd best player and best defender on the sideline for 3-5 more weeks with a broken jaw. : I like easy.

That's fine, be proud. But in your original post you weren't talking how proud you were of Perk, you were praising the " coaching " he got in high school. Like I said, keep tooting that horn, that's what you do best.

Good post Lazeek, my sentiments exactly. Dick has always wanted to toot his own horn ( and Boutte's too, I won't go there ) every chance he can. When you are as big and strong with some good athletic abilty as Perk had in high school, it doesn't take much coaching for him to dominate at that level. Night in and night out he faced '6"2 to '6"5 players that a player with his size could handle with ease. When he finally played players close to his size( Dallas Lincoln, Ft. Worth Dunbar) he did not dominate. Where was the coaching then? I am happy for Perk, he really has busted his tail the last couple of years and it seems to be paying off. Of course it doesn't hurt to have Pierce, Allen, and Garnett on your team.

Time for a BOLD statement from yours truely. Forget about Silsbee battling for the 2nd spot, the Tigers win out and tie HJ for first. You heard it here folks. now let me go run and hide ;D

These two teams are battling it out for that coveted final playoff spot along with Nederland and LCM. Every game for these four teams is of great importance from here on out starting with this game. The difference being, Lumberton earned their way to the playoffs, they didn't back into them or finish next to last and still make the playoffs. Look, I see the point being made that it gives a school, who traditionaly doesn't make the playoffs, more of an opportunity to qualify. But I just don't see the point in rewarding someone for finishing near the bottom of their district. I know some districts are stronger than others, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Can't do anything about geography, it is what it is. Like I said before, if you are going to allow 4 teams to advance, they must come from at least an 8 team district, that would be more logical. Four teams coming from these 5 and 6 team districts just isn't right.

With 4 teams going to the playoffs, 6 team districts still isn't enough. Here's a scenario: A school is in a 6 team district, therefore they will have 5 district games and 5 non district games. The school loses all 5 of their non district games and then goes 1-4 in their district games, tied with 2 other teams for last place in their district with 1-4 records. They win the tiebreaker and advance to the playoffs with a 1-9 record. Yea, this team really deserved to go to the playoffs. : With at least 8 team districts, one would have to finish at least middle of the district to advance not at the bottom. Like I said, stupid move.

There are some 4A districts with just 5 schools. Even a 6 team district isn't right for 4 teams to qualify from. In that case all a school would have to do is win 2 out of the 5 district games and you qualify. That's pretty lame. In some cases only one district win would allow you to advance, with a tie breaker involved. That's just comical.

Yes, I know that the sups voted this stupid thing, but the UIL forms the districts. Unless they make the districts at least 8 team districts, it will not be a good move. The UIL will need to bolster the 4A classsification to enable them to have 8 team districts. This means that some big 3A's will possibly move up. Probably schools in the 900-1000 enrollment will move up.

Unless the UIL is going to do something about making sure that most if not all the 4A districts has at least 8 teams per district, this is just another bad move. I didn't like it when 5A went to 4 teams but they have enough schools to actually get away with it. Class 4A doesn't. You'll have districts with 5 and 6 teams have 4 of those make the playoffs, nothing good about that. " We came in next to last in our district but we still get to go to the playoffs", how lame is that? Like BMTSoulja said, thumbs down!!!!!

I wasn't trying to make a comparison, that's definetly apples and oranges( A&M being the apples ;D). That is just what my son is use to seeing. My point has nothing to do with school budgets. I want to see more student participation. I know that winning will bring them, but we don't even have a core group of students that you can rely on every game. Even with the record the Cards have now, there still should be around 500 students going crazy for the team. Right now, we may get 50 on a good night. I just think the percentage of STUDENTS who attend games is just too low, even for a 10,000 enroll campus. I am hoping football unleashes the spirit.

See, that's what you want out of your home crowd. I am a season ticket holder, so I do make several games. The one thing that bothers me about our crowds is the lack of student participation. My 16 year old son even pointed it out to me. He is always wondering where the students are. All he sees is a bunch of old Cards at the games, no students. Take in mind that he is used to Aggie football, basketball, and baseball games where it's heavily student participation. Until we can get the students back going to the games and them getting involved, we will hover around that 3,000 mark for a while.

Hey guys, I am just going off of what KLVI's Dave Hofferth reported. I did overhear on the radio the public address announce the attendance at 3656, that's when Dave told us listeners what the total was. That is a paid attendance number. They do let students in for free after halftime. You have to go by the paid number. Lamar needs that number to increase.
