*LU vs. SFA/81-75 SFA WINS/COMMENTS*
AggiesAreWe replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Lamar is the most respected school whether they admnit it or not. SFA had its largest crowd....Lamar. They have to shoot lights out to win. Like I said, come tourney time, advantage Lamar. 51 second half points show LU figured them out. whoa buddy im sorry but Lamar wont beat SFA the rest of the season because Kyle Jacobs on SFA will dominate their world come tourney time. Axem Jacks Lamar wont and never will be SFA Never is a long time. -
Best game you have watched this season?
AggiesAreWe replied to alloutballer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
For me, I have been fortunate enough to broadcast 4 very good games so far this year. Kountze@Hardin, East Chambers@Kountze, Dayton@Nederland, and Big Sandy@Spurger. All really exciting games that went down to the wire. -
Aggies at Red Raiders/Red Raiders Win
AggiesAreWe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Final Aggies 53 Red Raiders 68 The General gets his 900th win. He said in the interview that was by far their best game so far this season. Kind of makes the Lamar loss to Tech look better for the Cards. -
My Aggies are getting their a** handed to them right now. Down 56-35 with 7:35 left. I kind of knew they were due for a klunker, but not this bad. They just never seem to play well against Tech.

Evadale by far.

Myself, I like to grade a player on everything they bring to the table, not just talent. There's leadership, positive attitude, team player, and other attributes that to me has to be considered when you talk of the BEST. Brown may be the most talented( jury still out for me ), but he would not be the first player I would pick for my team, not even the first guard. I think Coach Henderson sees that way too. I agree with Lazeek, if you are not playing because of discipline reasons, you shouldn't be considered.
So I guess Jasper is more athletic than your Silsbee Tigers. Bobcats took your tigers to the wire at your place and lost by two, yet Jasper wins by 7 at Orangefield. That makes sense.
Actually, it could make sense. It's all about the matchups. Silsbee just doesn't seem to matchup very well with Orangefield, but they do with Jasper, beat them by 22 points but could have been 30 easily. Jasper on the other hand, may matchup better with Orangefield, who knows. But it is not beyond reason.
You have next week's picked out yet?
Right now, I am going to wait till the results of this Friday's games are in. For Tues. 22nd games, I am leaning heavily towards a 22-4A match up. I am looking at the Dayton@Vidor game as a front runner. Also looking at the Ned@PNG, LCM@Ozen,and PAM@Humble games as possibilities. For the Jan. 25 Friday games, I got a couple down on the schedule but looks like I'll do the Ozen@Ned game but not certain just yet. I want to leave my options open. I have Hardin@Kountze and Spurger@West Hardin on that night that might be better options. Gonna wait and see. Will post them this weekend. -
AggiesAREWe-------------what did you think of the game.
First, let me start by saying it was a real treat getting to broadcast this game. I want to thank Spurger ISD for allowing me to do this. I also want to thank Coach Stapert and Coach Foster for the cooperation and genarosity, it was greatly appreciated. Good luck to both the rest of the season. As for the game, well for starters, Phillip Whittaker, WOW!!!!!!! What a great game this young man played, particularly that first quarter. Scoring 14 of Spurger's 20 points in the 1st, amazing, he was unstopable. Phillip finished with a game high 28 points and 12 rebounds. The relentless pressure that Big Sandy's guards apply finally caught up with Spurger. Several forced and unforced turnovers in the second half doomed the Pirates. The Wildcats clamped down on the inside and denied Whittaker the ball and forced the Spurger guards to win it. Big Sandy did not take their first lead until the 7 minute mark of the 4th quarter. It went back and forth for the next 4 minutes but then Big Sandy got a couple of steals and some defensive stops went on a 9-2 spurt that gave them the cusion they needed to pull this game out. I believe these are two evenly matched teams with the winner just making a few plays more than the loser. I believe it will be another close game the next time these two meet. Again, thanks for making the Setxsports.com game of the week another thriller. Looking forward to the next one, and the next one, and the next one...........
Any chance this game may be broadcast on the web?
Due to some personal scheduling conflicts, no game will be broadcast this Friday night. Be back Tues. 22nd. -
Apologies to the Silsbee Coach, Assistants, and Fans
AggiesAreWe replied to BobCat22's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Trust me Bobcat fans, we Tiger fans know what a gem of a coach we have in Coach Killam. We greatly appreciate the fantastic job this man has done. To you Coach K, don't even think about leaving anytime soon, we won't let you. Besides, I need you to help me out doing the spotting duties in the pressbox when I have to fill in for Alan. ;D -
Congrats to Catman for correctly answering the trivia question. He won 5 tickets to see Lamar's game against Sam Houston this Saturday night. Snook High School is the answer. They have won 10 state championships leading all classifications, 8 in a row. Really enjoyed doing the broadcast tonight from Spurger. I hope to be back in the near future.

Astro newly aquired infielder Miguel Tejada will be investigated by Congress for what they believe to be false statements made by him to Congress in an interview about steriods and HGH. They believe that Tejada knowingly made these false statements and commited purgery by doing this. Could be bad news for the Astros.

I think the record speaks for itself. There have been some quality wins in this too. Hey, Brown MIGHT be the best player in the area, but it's obvious he's been a virus to the team overall. Like Dick posted earlier, kudos to Henderson for doing what I KNOW what Coach Gamble would have done. The right thing for the TEAM.
Tigers big!!!!!!!! They make a big statement after the one point victory in the OF tournament!!!
I agree Lazeek. I think that 1 point game at THEIR tourney is an anomoly. District is all together a different game. I look for the Tigers to win by 15+.

Okay, this is real simple. Each gym has it's own set of rules. Some may have distinctive sides, home and visitor. Some have just a small section on one side for the visitors and others actually have sections on both sides for the home and visitors. As a visitor, you really don't have a say so in where the home team fans get to sit, it's their place. I have actually been to places where the home team's fans get there early enough to take all the seats and leave most of the visitors standing. Hey, that's what they call home court advantage. Now, when it comes to being disrespectful, it doesn't matter which side you are on. In the case of this particular game( which I wasn't there, just going off of what I heard from both sides ) I know how SOME of the Hawk and Bobcat fans can be. They love their teams and some will go out of their way to show you, sometimes in a disrespectful way. Is it heat of the game causing this? Or is it simply that persons personality? I think in most instances it's both. You have some unruly fans from all places and that's where the home security should take over. It should never get to the point where there are threats made or verbal abuse taken. My advice, if you have a problem, get the security involved. The visiting team always brings their own security, contact one of them and they should get with the home security and work it out. Otherwise just ignore it and keep cheering your team on.

I'll be in Spurger Tuesday night for this weeks broadcast of the Setxsports.com game of the week when Big Sandy visits Spurger in a BIG 24-1A district game. This should be a FANTASTIC matchup and another great broadcast. I will have an extra incentive for that night. The first fan that comes by the broadcast table and answers correctly the following question will recieve 5 tickets to Saturday, Jan.19 Lamar basketball home game against Sam Houston St. The question is, what class 1A school holds the state record for the most boys basketball state championships? Hint, this school is also the record holder for all classifications. First correct answer will win all 5 tickets. Looking forward to a great game Tuesday night, can't wait. Attention: There will be no GOW for Friday night the 18th. Will return on Tuesday the 22nd. Thanks

I'll be in Silsbee tonight in the Tiger's Den broadcasting this great 21-3A matchup of the Jasper Bulldogs and the Silsbee Tigers. This district rivalry goes way back and transcends all sports, not just football. Looking forward to a great game and broadcast. C'mon out and say hey, if not, listen here on the site. Gonna be a great night.

These are some of the more ignorant remarks I have seen on this site. Lumberton has no athletes? Get real!! To say they have no athletes because their basketball team is not good is about as stupid as me saying Ozen has no athletes because their baseball team sucks. C'mon Dick, clarify your remarks. Yes, Lumberton's basketball talent on a year to year basis is not up to par as a lot of teams in Southeast Texas, but to say they have no athletes is just plain ridiculous. They have had several athletes that have gone on to the next level in their respective sports, some that have actually made it to the pro level. I would believe you would have to be a pretty good athlete to get that far. The fact is, Lumberton has athletes, but most of them don't play basketball. It's really all about what one's definition of an athlete is. Example, Silsbee is more athletic than Hardin-Jefferson, but HJ has the better basketball players, therefore they are more successful in that sport than the Tigers. Ozen is more athletic than Lumberton, but Lumberton has better baseball players, therefore they are more successful in that sport than Ozen has been. It's all semantics. Dick, your generalization in your posts just makes you look plain stupid. But hey, maybe that's the case. We do know you are the classic " coattail rider".
