One things for sure, Biggio's team will probably be the dirtiest team around. By that, I mean that their laundry bill will definetly go up. Also the pine tar supply will go up.

Taylor is the third place team in that district. They also get a first round bye. They will play Cleveland in the Area round.

Looking at the brackets, Ozen should make it to the regional tourney. They could face Huntsville in the quarters, winner goes to regionals. Then they could face Houston Jones in the regional semis. Then the regional finals could be against Wheatly or Yates.

This is a great post, short. You have nailed it. David Green was just as good a coach back then as he is now. The PA kids just didn't take to his style of coaching. There's no question that it is a winning style. You mention that the kids are more team oriented now. I beleive that to be true, all the prima-donnas are gone.

Mike That is some good stuff right there. Will your Dad be making that trip as well? A buddy of mine from Stephenville scooped me up a couple of Tickets, so I will be taking my oldest son to his first state tournament trip this year. I am hoping to start that tradition that your dad started with you. I hope he does not walk into any stop signs, when we get there. (inside joke) LOL!! That was classic, you have to admit even though it happened to you! My Dad's health just won't allow him to go sit through all those games. He wasn't able to go last year when Silsbee went because of his cancer treatment. It stopped a streak of 50 straight years of going to the tourney. He was upset about that, not so much of ending the streak, but missing Silsbee at the tourney. If Silsbee goes again this year, he will go but will probably only watch the sessions that Silsbee is in. It is a tradition with my family as you know so well. My dad started going to the tournament in 1958 and he took me to my first tourney in 1972, I was 8 years old. I haven't missed one since. It's just an awesome time.

I will be there broadcasting the HJ game and maybe the WOS game, I'll know more later today.

I will keep with tradition and make my 38th straight state tourney regardless of if there is no local team to make it.

I will tell you EXACTLY what has happened...When Memorial was created, they made a HUGE mistake in trying to "start over" and not embrace Port Arthur's west side and retaining all of that tradition...BIG MISTAKE...They killed interest along with tradition, therefore you lose players to Beaumont Kelly (J'Covan Brown in 9th and 10th grade) Nederland, PNG, and other surrounding schools that would have NEVER left Lincoln..PARENTS would not allow that to happen when Lincoln was around..They should have followed Ozen's lead when they "resurrected" Hebert...Same colors (blue and gold) same mascot (Panthers) and they simply named the school after someone that the entire community knew and loved, Clifton J. Ozen....If Memorial's colors were purple and gold, the mascot were bumblebees, and they would have named the school JAMES GAMBLE HIGH, they would not have missed a beat!! THATS the reason why they fell so far, so fast...They lost the WEST SIDE of Port Arthur... I understand what you are saying, Dicky, truely I do. But you can't name the only school in PA after a Lincoln coach and use Lincoln colors and mascot. There was a school named Thomas Jefferson also that was involved in the consolidation. There has to be some consideration for that school also. I think that it was handled about as good as could be expected. You really can't compare Ozen to Memorial. Memorial is the only school in PA, where as Ozen is just a newer version of Hebert, there still is West Brook and Central. Now if you were to merge all three of those schools, then you could compare it to the merger of Lincoln and TJ.

Oh yes. Bobby was an all state QB, holds all of Silsbee's passing records, and was an all SWC QB at UH, along with being a very good head coach of the Tigers that has led them to 6 playoff appearances in his 11 years as head coach of Silsbee. Craig was a very good player, just not on the level as his older brother. Think it's been 7 out of the 11. 98,99,01,04,05,06,08 That's correct. I forgot about '01.

It really doesn't matter anymore how small the court is. They have played their last game on it. They will be playing in their new gym next season. The old court is 84 feet. New court will be 92 feet.
