My goal this year was to actually see 100 or more different high school boys basketball teams this season. So far, I am over 85 (86 to be exact). With playoffs and state tourney still on the horizon, I think I'll reach my goal of 100!! Looking forward to January, February and March!!! note: If you count watching teams via the internet or TV, I have seen 92 so far.

When you have two different officiating chapters in the area (TASO & UIL), that will lead to having this situation. Sad if you ask me. Like last year, Thewman (TASO) with his Lamar connections will have teams that use TASO play at the Montagne while teams that use the local UIL chapter will play at Ozen or PAM. Hopefully for us fans (and broadcasters  ;)) the previews will be on different nights.

The Newton Eagles will travel over to Buna to take on the Cougars in a non district battle between two old district rivals, TONIGHT at 6:30pm and SETXsports will be there to broadcast live!! Both teams are coming off district wins with Newton defeating Hemphill in 22-2A play and Buna took down Deweyville in 24-2A action. Weathers is averaging 24 points a game, Carroll is averaging 21.4 points a game. Mexia returns their starting post player Green and PG Strain. Weathers made all state 1st team last year and all state tourney. They did lose their other guard who averaged about 11 points a game last year. Mexia should be just as good if not better this year from last.
