I wouldn't say that. We lose Grubbs, Thomas, Maze and Tanton. I like our chances with them plus the others than without those four. Silsbee will still be good, but I like those 4 seniors and we will miss them.

I believe I can state this with confidence that as far as folks on this site, I have seen more Silsbee basketball than anyone. With that said, I honestly believe this is the best opportunity for Silsbee to win the whole thing in comparison to past opportunities. This team (and I mean the one when they have the full compliment of players) is very, very capable of winning it all. Will they? That remains to be seen and they will have to earn it. I have faith and belief that they can accomplish the feat. Might be wrong of me to put this undo pressure on them, but this team is as good a team as Silsbee has had in quite some time. I don't necessarily like to label a team "Title or Bust", but in this case, I feel that to be accurate.

Let me help you. Silsbee "Lite" played Beaumont Central last night. BTW, very big crowd last night in the Tiger Den. Just about at full capacity.

They earned the #1 ranking because they had not lost and the #1 team did. Like ST413 stated, had Silsbee been ranked #8 in preseason, I highly doubt that Silsbee would be #1 right now based on what they have done so far thru just 4 games. Them starting out at #2 (based on what the team was returning from last year) helped them be in the position to gain that #1 ranking after Bridgeport lost. Pretty damn simple to me.

I can assure you, Silsbee's preseason TABC ranking of #2 was based on a full strength Silsbee varsity team coming back this year. Not what is on the court now. Them being ranked #1 was somewhat inevitable after Bridgeport (preseason #1) lost two games last week badly and this Silsbee "Lite" team has yet to lose. Just a case of "next man". From what I witnessed last night with my own eyes, Central had no business losing to this particular Silsbee team.

Knowing what they are missing because of still in the football playoffs, yep I was selling them short. Told Coach Sigler that last night. He agreed. Again I ask what's bigger. The Silsbee win or the Central loss? Lot's of folks in attendance last night were expecting a Central 15+ win. You can spin it however you want, Central was not suppose to lose to a Silsbee "Lite" team, no matter the ranking.

All I know is what I am told. Silsbee has asked Ozen to play the last couple of years. Ozen has declined for whatever reason. They are not scared. But, I do know this to be fact. When Carrol Thomas was sup, he did instruct his basketball coaches that if you are going to schedule the likes of Silsbee, HJ and Kountze, you best beat them. Otherwise, do not schedule them. Got that straight from the top. Scheduling has lots of variables. Sometimes the dates just do not match up. All I can say is that Silsbee has asked to play Ozen in a regular season game.

You are wrong. Silsbee has defeated Ozen a few times over the years. I remember just a few years ago a Silsbee team beating Ozen 65-40.

Not sure what is bigger. The win for Silsbee or the loss for Central. BTW, the 3 freshmen won this game for Silsbee. Tigers were down to just 5 players with 3 minutes left in OT. Grubbs and Tanton had fouled out and Harris was out with severe cramps. 3 freshmen were on the floor for Silsbee at the end. Adams scored 24, McCain scored 21. Silsbee "Lite" is a very good team that is missing their muscle (the football players who are the bulk of their rebounding and defense with some inside scoring) Central killed Silsbee "Lite" on the boards and defended the basket very well inside. Tigers were 10 of 24 from 3 point line and 19 of 30 from the FT line. Gabe, Silsbee is without 8 varsity players, 3 of which were starters last year and 2 that were main contributors off the bench. Those players will provide this current team with more depth, experience and strength. Silsbee "Lite" got the #1 state ranking yesterday and tonight just validated it.

Here is Thursday schedule: Thursday New Gym Big Sandy vs Buna 1, Legacy vs Splendora 230, Big Sandy vs Legacy 7 Old Gym Kountze vs Hudson 1, Kountze vs Buna 530, Splendora vs Hudson 7 I see two games between 1pm and 7pm games. Remember, there is a girls tourney at the same time.
