1. Is it safe to assume that outside of Mart and Alto in 1A D1 it's wide open? Most of the time it isn't the best but the healthiest team that wins come playoff time, especially in 1A. District 10 has the top two teams returning nearly everyone (save Lacey at WS).How the new QB at WS (Williams) acclimates to the position and if LB Cabral can duplicate his 2012 season (168 tackles in 12 games)will likely determine who takes district 10, although Alto will be more than a handful for ANYONE to stop with Whitaker and Sturns in the backfield just to name a few, and don't count out SA as well. District 11 can be a crap shoot, with H-D as the class of that district, and district 9 has good teams top to bottom. That all being said, however, it is still just June 25th sports fans!
 2. Enterprise didn't get to the 1A level. 4 teams out of region three are state ranked in the preseason polls (Mart #1, Alto #2, West Sabine #8 in d1 and Tenaha #1 in d2). The Piney Woods consistently year in year out produces powerhouses and this year in no exception. Newton as #1 in 2A didn't surprise me cause they are loaded once again in the backfield and up front.
 3.

Mart will get to state again and this time win it. No team, and i mean NO TEAM around here is beating Mart.  ;)
Yeah we'll just see about that.
Think we are gonna be fightin it out for the district title  this season, JacketFan? Our district appears top heavy this year. What do you think? Should be fun this year.........
 4. I have heard they are sticking with a variation of the spread. It will all depend upon the personnel they have whether or not it will be run-heavy or pass-heavy. Hope they can compete this year, and I feel that Launius is bringing his winning pedigree with him. But, as one of my old coaches once said, you can't have a zoo if you don't have the animals(take from that what you may.......). I wish them well, mainly because working in Hemphill as I do I know one or two of the players.
 5. WS and Colmesneil were well represented! Think I counted 7 from each team.......
 6.

how did hemphill look?
Quarterback is a lefty that throws the ball pretty decent. Had one really big well built white kid that was decent.  No real game breakers at the wideout positions.  Lacking in athleticism but ran good routes, attempted to play technique on defense etc.  the game I watched them (San Augustine) they were just not near the level athletically On paper they have no gamebreakers, but they just keep grinding at you though and they wear you down. Don't forget the returning district defensive MVP in Hunter Cabral on that side of the ball, too. Plus SA has to take a step back this year because when you lose 19 or 20 seniors (total) on both sides of the ball who made major contributions. No knock on them just at a 1A level when you lose that much talent there is going to be a slight drop off the following season. And Alto is, well, Alto, and they always seem to reload rather than rebuild( the hire from within to replace Gardner should make the transition a bit smoother). This district will probably come down to the same three teams as last year (Alto, WS, and SA) with the Yellowjackets and the Tigers slugging it out for the district crown IMO. In spot duty last year Williams threw for close to 400 yds. and 6TD's for WS, so barring injuries I think the Tigers QB spot is settled for 2013.
7.

Baker struck out and hollered an expletive. 0-0 end of 1
Was it directed at the umpire? If it was that will get you dumped every time in high school.
Yes it was. Choice words too.
 8. Yes it would be nice to see an upset. If WS plays to their capabilities it will be a fun series.
 9.

Ump must have had a tight zone because both of those pitchers throw strikes and know how to pitch. Pettitte had 6 walks and Mills had 5 or 6..mix that will 10 strikeouts for Pettite and I think 6 or 7 for Mills and that adds up to a lot of pitches.  I do know that Dulles has a very deep staff so there was no need to keep Mills in after they scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th to push the game to 7-3.
I was thinking the same thing.  What most thought would be a low scoring pitching duel, did not exactly turn out that way. I was surprised when I saw the box score and stats for this game. You are correct, Joebob.  Both of these kids know how to pitch and pound the strike zone. How many pitches did Petitte throw? I personally witnessed a playoff game last year in which I had the Sabine Pass pitcher at roughly 170 pitches through 6 innings(my math could be off because I have slept since then......). I worry about what that kind of workload will do to young arms.......... Joebob,  are you going to watch the BH/Foster series ?
10. Yes, their record would state that they have a quality #2 and #3. How rough was their non-district/district schedule(just asking who they played because there was a steep drop off in competition in district 23 after Colmesneil and WS)? Don't underestimate WS's pitchers though. I have seen firsthand that when they get rolling they can shut down anyone. That all being said it should be an interesting series between two high-quality teams.
 11. I know the Tigers will be a heavy underdog here, but I believe that every dog (or cat in this case) has their day. I have seen firsthand the passion that WS displays game in game out. That being said, they will have to be on their A++ game this week....

 16.
This is very surprising.
Yep. Proof that anything can happen in a one game playoff. That's why I think if you are the underdog you want one of these because a top ranked team is more likely to play one bad game in a three game series, but not 2.
